- daGUY, on 07/14/2008, -0/+115This is BS. Any developer doing this should be kicked out of the store. Apple should remove the alphabetical option entirely, and just let the customer sort by rating, downloads, or date added - there would be no way to permanently list an app at the top. Problem solved.
I don't even own an iPhone or iPod touch, but if I did, I most certainly wouldn't buy anything from a developer who "cheated" to get to the front of the line. That tells me that the quality of their software isn't good enough on its own merits to make me want to download it. - CreativeGuy, on 07/13/2008, -0/+68Completely expected. The app store is the modern version of the phone book. Does anyone actually believe that there are so many people that think "AAAA Towing" or "AAAA Legal Services" is really what the owner dreamed of naming his company?
- a0me, on 07/14/2008, -1/+56Develpors! Develpors! Develpors!

- HumbleDialog, on 07/14/2008, -0/+39Am I the only one who has never seen an alphabetized listing of steak sauces?
- Mickeh65, on 07/14/2008, -1/+32Solitaire City has 15 spaces before the actual name of the application.
- SkippyDoorknob, on 07/14/2008, -0/+27I'm going to submit it again with a bunch of spaces at the start
- Wolfsoap, on 07/14/2008, -1/+28 AAAAA Comment.
- mediaphile, on 07/14/2008, -0/+21I don't think removing the alphabetical option is a viable solution. If you had read the article, you would see that by moving Apps with names that start with characters to the end of the list instead of putting them at the beginning, Apple would discourage this type of behavior. Also, since Apple allows apps only on a per-app basis, there should be naming conventions that are enforced. Apple just needs to monitor their service more carefully is all.

- PDubNYC, on 07/14/2008, -0/+20And other people respond to the top post to get their comment at the top, in spite of the fact that it has nothing to do with the parent post.
- antoniuk, on 07/14/2008, -4/+24Yes, because the iphone is the cornerstone of democracy and we have certain inalienable rights to pointless applications for our useless product.
Good thing we do not have anything more important to worry about. God save the iPhone!
Oh and buried for a duplicate story. - svensko, on 07/14/2008, -2/+21Wasn't this JUST submitted?

- freezerburn666, on 07/14/2008, -0/+9the app stores fault entirely. use a trimming function for spaces, wtf.

- serif69, on 07/14/2008, -0/+6Spelign! Spelign! Spelign! Spelign!
- ThankTheCheese, on 07/14/2008, -0/+5I gotta hand it to the author, I wouldn't have thought you could get almost 800 words out of a few developers beginning their application names with a space.
- hughesj919, on 07/14/2008, -7/+12Diggers have some serious short term memory...we just saw this.
- TotalDouche, on 07/14/2008, -0/+5It should be automatically sorted by popularity/rating. Then if you want to be a moron, sort it in ABC order.
- ButterLoyalist, on 07/14/2008, -1/+6I, for one, will only be downloading free software from the iPhone App Store.

- griz, on 07/14/2008, -1/+4How about making a quality app instead of disguising it behind a crappy name?
- bulls86, on 07/14/2008, -0/+3who's down to give 1 star to the apps mentioned above only because we can
- TremorX, on 07/14/2008, -1/+3Jirbo started it.
- tripm, on 07/14/2008, -0/+2i think apple has corrected the problem (maybe they renamed the apps without spaces after all?
- r3zonance, on 07/14/2008, -0/+2Don't forget the "ignoring of non-alphabetic characters" too, otherwise punctuation will still get through.
- Tantrum, on 07/14/2008, -2/+4This kind of 'exploit' has been around FOREVER it's not something new brought on by the iTunes store. It's been going on in the phone book for decades.

- surferjoemaui, on 07/14/2008, -1/+3Your comment seems to contradict itself (how does something no one cares about get to the front page even once?)
- trolley, on 07/14/2008, -1/+3Where's the option to bury due to complete lack of caring to proofread before submitting?
- eggsovereasy, on 07/14/2008, -0/+2I see what you did there...
- mrcpu, on 07/14/2008, -0/+2I downloaded a "free" game that doesn't actually have any games in it! Its just a launch pad for other games!!!! I feel dirty! (or not)
- HappyScrappy, on 07/15/2008, -0/+1With a phone-book type organization, why would you expect any other result?
These practices aren't unfair, not unless you think that apps that have names starting with A had an inherent right to appear first. - WNW3, on 07/14/2008, -0/+1This was just on the top ten. Stop digging duplicates.
- macgecko, on 07/14/2008, -0/+1Ahhhhhh use the spell check!
