- meruru, on 10/29/2008, -3/+41Well if Ngmoco says so....
...wait who the hell is Ngmoco and what games have they ever made? - Darthyoshiboy, on 10/29/2008, -1/+34Coming from a company that formed exclusively to develop for the iPhone... I'm sure that they're unbiased.
- Nicksname1, on 10/29/2008, -3/+35Give me a ***** break.
- jollybee34, on 10/29/2008, -4/+32no way
- diggduggDOOM, on 10/29/2008, -3/+28HAHAHAHAHAHAH
- 1gunners4, on 10/29/2008, -2/+25And the source is "macword.com" :P On the front page tomorrow, there will be stories titled "PS3 is for losers" from xboxplanet.com and "Na-uh, 360 is gay!" from sonyfanboy.net.
- 1jaxstate1, on 10/29/2008, -3/+25I call *****. I've tried several games, and they are not way near what you can get on a DS. No physical controls = big time trouble. If they think it's capable, they why haven't they produced yet? I hope they prove me wrong though.
- collution, on 10/29/2008, -0/+22Stop buying them for your kids. Can't blame companies for offering choices.
- satyarth, on 10/29/2008, -1/+22Ok, but come back afer you finish *****.
- Eparause, on 10/29/2008, -2/+20So a no-name developer says that the iPhone can rival the DS and PSP for games. That sure says alot for the iPhone.
- Mjeacoma, on 10/29/2008, -4/+19Games on a flat touch panel will never work - perhaps bluetooth controller?
- ch40sBr1ng3r, on 10/29/2008, -1/+16Fail. the PSP and DS have extra functionality but their main purpose is gaming. the iPhone is a phone, that can do other things.
- ToastPop, on 04/17/2009, -1/+13I tried to do some real gaming on the iPhone, I really did. But the touch screen only controls just don't work for most games. The puzzle games have been great, but action and racing not so much. The iPhone is just good for games that would only use a mouse.
- robotfriendly, on 10/29/2008, -0/+12Yeah! Who wouldn't want to carry a ***** bluetooth game controller around in their pocket to play portable games on their portable phone.
- BrendanSheehan, on 10/28/2008, -3/+13CEO: Neil Young, lol
- barryiggins, on 10/29/2008, -3/+13so I google "Ngmoco"; the big game they have advertised on their site is just a blatant ripoff of the psp game LocoRoco that came out over 2 years ago.
Buried. - Urbalist, on 10/29/2008, -2/+12Sorry its impossible for iphone to catch up. When so many citizens in America have DS's and PSP and everyone in japan having one or both of the two. And the overall lingering presence of the GBA permeating throughout the world's gaming market, please explain to me how the iphone/ipod touch has a chance of catching up.
PS: I own an ipod touch and Navy blue DS - bjs3171, on 10/29/2008, -2/+10OR you could, like, not buy every console known to man for your children.
growing up I had one console at a time. nintendo, and then super nintendo. the next console I owned myself was the Wii, which was eventually traded for a 360. - doctorgrim, on 10/29/2008, -1/+8Without proper controls, it can't.
- NerdENerd, on 10/29/2008, -0/+7Battery life is a major issue though.
I am currently addicted to Fieldrunners on my iPhone but 45 minutes totally drains the battery.
I can get nearly two days out of my iPhone if I am using it as a phone and check a few web pages and my email.
Games you cannot even get 2 hours out of the thing.
My Nintendo DS lasted a full 12 hour flight from Australia to L.A. - Yoweigh, on 10/29/2008, -1/+7It doesn't have buttons, you retards!
- inactive, on 10/29/2008, -3/+9But..but..it's shiny! People buy stuff from the appstore! And get this, you can TOUCH the SCREEN!
- madcat033, on 10/29/2008, -2/+6I don't know if I agree that "games on a flat panel touch screen will never work."
But moving the screen to control the game... THAT will never work. They actually advertise using tilt and motion control for iPhone games... are you retarded? Moving the screen while you are trying to look at it? Every time you turn in a racing game, the entire screen turns!
Um, no thanks. - BuddyDoQ, on 10/29/2008, -2/+6Gaming consoles and handhelds do not come with two year contracts and thousands of dollars in usage fees. Little Timmy might want one, but not for gaming with.
- Narrwald, on 10/29/2008, -4/+7Buried for a lack of humor in what is clearly a joke.
- datdamonfoo, on 10/29/2008, -2/+5How many games can you play with ten minutes of battery life?
- inactive, on 10/29/2008, -1/+4How do you hold the iPhone if you're holding a controller plugged into it? I have no problem with the iPhone having games. Games like Peggle would work great on it. But saying it will rival the DS or even the PSP is ridiculous.
- inactive, on 10/29/2008, -1/+4The touch screen and cell phone key controls on the iphone don't work very well outside of puzzle games. Gaming is simply an extra on the iphone, it's a nice feature to have here and there, but they won't capture the gaming market like the DS and PSP.
- mouthster, on 10/29/2008, -1/+3Some of the iPhone games I've played are decent time wasters (including Ngmoco's own Topple) and are certainly the best games I've played on a mobile phone (no, I've never touched an N-gage). I think there is a valid point in the iPhone taking some market-share from the casual gaming market but I don't see the platform offering something like Advanced Wars or Castlevania.
- IHaveCrayons, on 10/29/2008, -1/+3Of that Kit Kat bar?
- HolyChimp, on 10/29/2008, -0/+2Advance Wars could actually work, especially if they didn't try to tack on tilt controls. Castlevania would suck without buttons.
- bigbangbuddha, on 10/29/2008, -1/+3I'm going to get burried for this, but I have one argument to make, and its not about touch screens or accelerometers. Right now there are 80 million iPod owners in the world (from 1st gen to iTouch), eventually those users upgrade, and that means they will end up with something like an iPhone eventually, so this bodes well for Apple. But the iPhone is just the new toy and has lots of room to grow. I don't know if Apple will take the gamming cake but I do believe that eventually having your phone, mp3 player and entertainment device unified makes sense. For me, I use public transport and for an hour every day my iPhone keeps me entertained, I don't want to carry a multitude of devices on me so it fits the bill nicely. I also know that every kid from the age of 10 up has a phone (and a DS too), and more of them are spending time texting than anything. If Nintendo is smart they will incorporate a phone (or messenger service) into their devices like apple is doing with games, I don't agree the current iPhone will rival the DS now, but eventually something like it will.
- mtwmike, on 10/29/2008, -1/+3I have to agree to some level. It's not the platform though developers just need to figure out how to make the game play better. But for the casual game market I can see endless potential.
- harrison5394, on 10/29/2008, -1/+3Jesus couldn't rival the DS at this point.
- NotDennis, on 10/29/2008, -5/+7There is one thing missing from the iPhone that you need to play games.
Buttons. - rimantas, on 10/30/2008, -0/+2Labyrinth?
- DelMonte, on 10/29/2008, -0/+2Ngmoco was founded by Neil Young, an EA veteran who worked on The Sims 2, and who left the company to start his own company.
They're a startup, but they already published a well polished game for the iPhone called Topple. - jamesdew, on 10/30/2008, -0/+2Monkeyball?
- shadowfoxmi, on 10/29/2008, -0/+2what after he comes back?
- Andrwmorph, on 10/29/2008, -1/+3Yeah agreed. Certain games just don't feel right without any physical controls.
- benologist, on 10/30/2008, -0/+2If you're going to do it that way then you're going to be carrying something the size of a PSP around to play games on something less powerful than the PSP.... so why bother?
- DRC1, on 10/30/2008, -0/+1I think the iPhone is great for what it is (more than just a phone) but I don't believe it's worthy of comparison with hardwares such as the DS, PSP etc. dedicated to portable gaming...I'm an iPhone owner and love some of the games but...come on...let's not push it folks
- Elranzer, on 10/29/2008, -0/+1FF7:Crisis Core is not FF7.
Though I supposes you can always put the real PSX FF7 on there with a hacked firmware. - Urkel, on 10/29/2008, -2/+3What is the obsession with Apple people to prove they aren't buying niche products? There's a constant barrage of stories pretending Apple is taking over the world when they simply aren't. I spend a ton of money on Apple products, but in no way would I ever pretend that I'm not in a minority market. And quite frankly, life is better that way.
- hotsoda, on 10/29/2008, -2/+3iPod touch?
- username7410, on 10/29/2008, -1/+2Neil Young is no laughing matter.
- Sabre24q7, on 10/29/2008, -1/+2Is this a joke?
- DelMonte, on 10/29/2008, -1/+2"blatant ripoff of the psp game LocoRoco that came out over 2 years ago."
Rolando may have the same look as LocoRoco, but the gameplay is very different, it looks like it's gonna be a great game that uses the iPhone controls to their maximum. - mrBitch, on 10/30/2008, -0/+1@HigherLogic RE: " For other phones your statement is true, they're just phones that can do other things, but this thing is more like a handheld laptop that can also make phone calls. "
Just came back from a few weeks in Europe, and I have to agree with you on that point. The iPhone / Touch is more like a mini laptop, and easily rivals the eeeePC (with similar screen and keyboard trade-offs). - bjs3171, on 10/29/2008, -1/+2it's not talking about marketshare, just the type of games.
