- Giever, on 10/12/2007, -7/+25I had no idea MAC addresses were considered homosexual.
- locnguyen, on 10/12/2007, -7/+24You should take your hate for homosexuals somewhere else.
- Quix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15Wow, is it just me, or is Mac solution development suddenly taking off like a rocket? Since January we've had Boot Camp, Parallels, and now Crossover (and a VMWare announcement). My dumped PC is but a dusty, distant memory. I can't wait to see what future development brings.
- eattoenails, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15This is AWESOME! I've got it up and running now (yay it's a Cocoa app!). Got Steam installed and am downloading Counter-Strike at the moment! I'm so excited!

*wadam pshhhhhh!* - Subway, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Posting from IE 6 on my Macbook :D
As a web designer/developer this is really all I need from Windows and now I have it! Works flawlessly!
Fredi - kwojniak, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Over at MacRumors we got a nice thread going with screenshots and details about installing other apps. I'd recommend everyone glance through it:

Do NOT comment, do not reply, resist the urge to be the "mature" one and just block the imbeciles. Imbeciles can't be reasoned with and frankly, you shouldn't try. - johnjreiser, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8What's important is that native Mac OS X applications are developed that switchers no longer need to rely on crutches like Boot Camp.
- TheCheeks, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6MS and Mac shouldnt merge. however all gaming companies should release both MS and Mac versions of their games.
- ElBob, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Yes, you are.
- KyleMistry, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5They'd mix about as well as oil and water.
- totorototoro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4@thebigkahuna,
web designers can install IE to test their sites on it. - eattoenails, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4CS runs just fine, but I couldn't connect to a server. But I created a new game and it worked fine, with audio.
- TheCheeks, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5please let us know how cs runs, i wanted to do the same thing, i dont like booting into XP.
- barbobot, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Do you understand how software works?
Just because something is old as dirt on one platform doesnt mean they'll have all the kinks out for other platforms. You say "This isn't a brand new piece of software" and while thats partially true, its not completely true. It is a new software product on Mac OS. - speedyrev, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Yes, you are the only one. I try to stay away from anything microsoft.
- arthurbarnhouse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This is a Beta. Unlike Gmail or something like that it is a Beta with a time frame. Kinks like that will probably be worked out over the Beta period.
- totorototoro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3theDose,
Parallels (and Bootcamp) require a valid copy of Windows installed first. Then you can install Windows programs like MS Office.
I just installed Crossover. All I needed was the Crossover download and a copy of MS Office. It installed with no problem, and I'm running Word right now. - GreatDrok, on 10/12/2007, -6/+9It's cool that this now works on a Mac. I used to use Crossover to run Office on my Linux machines but when I bought a Mac I bought Office:mac. Of course, it isn't as compatible with the Windows version as MS would have you believe so the possibility of running the actual Windows version should help. My experience with Crossover on Linux was very good. The only problem I can see is that the Windows apps will have their menus in the wrong place for a Mac which will make them seem very unnatural.
- omegadan, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5They can't make it work for PPC because its not an emulator. It is a compatability layer and the code executes directly on the CPU. Not possible on PPC.
- dickrichie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I hate the bias against adobe on the Intel chips. have you even used it? I do graphic design for a living. It literally pays the bills and puts a roof over my head. i use CS2 daily for 8+ hours a day and I use it on a MacBook Pro with 1 gig of RAM. While it is not Quad G5 fast (not much is) it is easily faster than my powerbook G4 and close to iMac G5 speeds. Rosetta is much better then anyone give is credit for. I put it to the test recently and ran 3D games on it. While it did have some slow periods of frame rate on a whole I was pleased with it. With that said I cant wait for universal binaries of CS3 but till then this is more then adequate and still more stable then trying to crawl around on a windows machine.
- epitaphic, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7>> This bites, I wish they would start making cool stuff like this for the power pc. :(
same reason you don't have boot camp for power pc: x86 architecture. - regeya, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5While that would be awesome, I'm sure it would be more difficult. Crossover is basically a commercial fork of WINE. http://winehq.com/
There was a project that was attempting to port WINE to OS X, and iirc they were going to try to do x86 emulation...could be wrong. - JamesShiell, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Speaking as a software developer, while OmniGraffle rocks my world, at work I need perfect Visio compatibility. Which means Visio. Which in turn means if I want to work at home, I need Visio. And if I can take care of that and MKS then I can use the Mac for everything else. Likewise, being able to fire up IE6 quickly for a test is priceless.
It's a complementary tool, and it definately has a market for those who will suffer some compatibility loss for much better integration. - soundboy64, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Probably because firefox in OS X is just as good as FireFox in windows, and neither one can display some webpages specifically for IE
- zerock, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Hmm I can't seem to get Windows Live Messenger running... Anyone have any luck?
- analogvoid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Ok I figured out what I was doing "wrong". I was unable to log into remote servers because I was trying to access them via the server list inside of the counterstrike GUI. If you open the server list from the steam console it will allow you to join by selecting a server there without the annoying "version mismatch" error. Hope this helps.
- soundboy64, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Anyone have any luck running Windows Media Player for those times when it doesn't work with the Flip4Mac plugin?
- StatusQuoRules, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3The thing is... who needs AMD when theres Conroe? Budget Macs? No. They just remove the graphics chip.
- althe3rduww, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Cross Over certainly isn't bad. It does a good job of running windows apps at near native speeds. The downside is that the api is a tad out of date so that certain apps that are expecting to see service pack 2 have trouble installing / running.
Overall I give them a thumbs up so far, but I would wait until the final build to actually rely on it to run day to day apps.
It is nice though to be able to run a windows app and minimize it to the dock as if it was just another mac app. If this really improved on the reliability front it would really have an advantage as it doesn't require an purchase/install of windows. - jbouklas, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I'm unimpressed. I have Parallels installed, which gives FANTASTIC performance on my MacBook (2GHz Core Duo, 2GB RAM, 160GB HD). Under Crossover, IE renders very slowly, the interface isn't as clean as I would have liked. That, and just about every entry in the software database is "untested," which is surprising given that this isn't a brand new piece of software- it's been used in Linux for some time now. I'll wait until it improves before I keep it on my system.
- jackarmstrong, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2is there any way i can download this 'quartz-wm' file from online? i don't have my OS X install disk with me and i'm desperate to get this working fully on my computer... any help would be greatly appreciated.
- virtualball, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Heh, it would be 4 hours if it was native! lol jk, I use CS1 and 2 (I prefer 1) on my MacBook and I must say, the loading takes awhile but after that, it just runs smoothely! Finally someone else agrees with me. :)
- 00011000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2check out this screenie peeps!
http://student.dcu.ie/~chans3/screen.jpg
crossover is amazing! - TomWickline, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2No not yet, If your interested in Gaming support you should vote for future DirectX support.
http://www.codeweavers.com/site/compatibility/browse/name?app_id=249 - arthurbarnhouse, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5You want Crossover mac to run a program that was already ported? Specifically Office, which has a more superior design compared to its Office 2003 cousin? I guess there are compatibility issues, though I've run into exactly zero.
This will be OK for programs that don't have Mac analogs (Steam), but for Office or something of that sort, well Why? I mean Mac office is much better designed. Need Visio? Well Omni produces a compatible program. Crossover Mac has its value but running an inferior program seems kinda silly. - MikeCerm, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I guess this is cool, but if you've already got Boot Camp and/or Parallels, this seems like it might not be worth the price for a solution that only works, sometimes, on some software. The full retail price is about the same as I paid for an XP Home license. If you stick only to the functional titles, then it's probably pretty sweet, and you can have the satisfaction of not selling out to the man.
- WindChimes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Does it play the Sims 2 and all its expansions?
- thebigkahuna, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i have to agree with you i am sick of azereus too. certain torrent sites dont work with a lot of clients properly and i love how little system uTorrent uses. my new mac hasnt arrived so post and let me know if it works
- dimplemonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Open Office seems to work without major issues for the most part. Some instances are a little slow but there doesn't appear to be a place where I can adjust memory allocation. This is a great start overall.
- johnsel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I just installed IE 6. Works great. Anybody know how to do antialiasing on the fonts?
- HobbesDoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wow, the date of the last update on that page is from 2004. I sure hope they're updating the Mac version. On the home page they say it supports Half-Life 2. I inserted the CD and it says "Unsupported install dectected" or something similar.
- scotty588, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah I really don't like X-chat Aqua and coulden't get used to any other irc apps on mac. This works perfect though! At least so far it does.
- HobbesDoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm not having luck running anything on my Mac Pro. The moment I try to create a "bottle" the whole system hangs. The Crossover application launches though and recognizes when I insert a CD. I haven't tried it on my Mini yet. Has anybody heard anything about compatibility issues on a Mac Pro yet?
- sourcemonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1TIMMEH!1!!
- EricJD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Notepad2 has issues...
http://www.maj.com/gallery/Ykcab/PCStuff/Mac/notepad2.png - golddigga, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1why do they have a parallels icon in the dock?
- scotty588, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1mIRC seems to work fine.
- metaphysical, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1As far as I can tell there's no Unicode support (Yahoo! Japan Messenger was a no-go).
