- Atomic05, on 04/24/2008, -11/+66So kids spend a lot of their money (or their parent's money) on shiny things to make themselves look popular. Apple's stuff is popular. Apple's stuff is shiny. There isn't much here to debate about.
- digitalpencil, on 04/24/2008, -8/+60"Lucky, like I am to have teenagers" "when my daughter asked for her second iPhone"!!
Your daughter's a spoiled brat, i'd put the brakes on that before she turns into a bitchy 16 yr old. - racco, on 04/24/2008, -19/+57Apple have never needed pushing to improve the iPod, they're always doing that
- Velirno, on 04/24/2008, -2/+30Funny enough, while I hardly see Zunes used on my campus, the majority of people I talk to know what a Zune is. I don't wish anything horrible on Apple mind you, but some good competition would be good for this industry.
- naderslim, on 04/24/2008, -35/+62Until other competitors start offering quality hardware AND quality software that is innovative and fun to use they are not really competing as these are what the consumer wants, hence why Apple's competitors are irrelevant.
- Sheeplike, on 04/24/2008, -11/+32Love it or hate it, he's dead on. Posting from Vista :( Got ubuntu in the bedroom. :)
- inactive, on 04/24/2008, -31/+50No competition hurts everyone except for Apple. I hope Zune could somehow get 10 - 15% of market share. That would push Apple to improve their iPods....
- notadiggtard, on 04/24/2008, -3/+22Apparently the OS has no value to you,so here's one with Windows ME.Enjoy your savings!
- centerblack, on 04/24/2008, -6/+23You just don't get it. They already have the winning equation- all there's left to do now is add space, lower the price and get people to buy more.
No, they're not gonna add a ***** FM radio. Get over it already. - rodrigo74, on 04/24/2008, -2/+18"And oh yes, he claims Macs are the only computers... that's when he moved from giving an opinion to preaching like a fanatic."
You should learn how to interpret what people say instead of taking it literally..what he obviously meant is that, from the point-of-view of a teenager, a Dell or a HP is not something cool to have, it's more like an appliance, something that parents get from their companies, than a computer, as in something cool to carry around. - Spuy767, on 04/24/2008, -2/+14Agreed. It took a 50 foot fall for engadget to finally break the screen on their iPhone test mule, and the internals still worked.
- tomato1324, on 04/24/2008, -0/+12yea she's not spoiled for asking for another ipod or iphone, shes stupid. she's only spoiled if she gets what she asks for.
- benexor, on 04/24/2008, -13/+24This guy is saying HPs and Dells are not computers, they are typewriters, and a computer is a Mac. Meet Apple's shareholder/fanboy!
- inactive, on 04/24/2008, -3/+14Stupid Apple - - what are they thinking never improving their ipods? I mean all they ever do is add features, increase storage space, lower the price.....
Cretin. - Ithaxa, on 04/24/2008, -10/+21"They are not computers. They are devices which adults use. A computer is a Mac. Those [PCs] might as well be typewriters to those kids." lolololololol
- NFicano, on 04/24/2008, -3/+13I think most of you are misinterpreting Jim Cramer. With all due respect he is quite knowledgeable when it comes to the market and the economy based solely on his past performance. All that aside, he isn't saying that Dell and HP are good or bad companies, but if you look at your average teen who uses strictly their IM Client, iTunes, Office, and a browser, Apple is a far more attractive machine compared to any Windows PC. Look at Dell and HP machines out of the box. 2 - 3 IE toolbars, ***** anti-viruses that constantly run in the background, don't protect you from ***** and then pop up an alert every year saying YOUR ***** SUBSCRIPTION IS ABOUT TO EXPIRE, YOU THINK YOUR ***** SUCKS NOW? JUST WAIT UNTIL WERE GONE. Jim Cramer was speaking about mid-to-upper class white people on behalf of mid-to-upper class white people. That’s it.
- punkcat, on 04/24/2008, -4/+14he was expressing his own thoughts on the topic. people do that here.
- DrMonkeyLove, on 04/24/2008, -21/+31I thought it was pretty well established that Jim Cramer is a COMPLETE ***** MORON!!! But yeah, go ahead an get your investment advice from him. Losing money's never been more FUN!!!
- SuperVepr308, on 04/24/2008, -3/+12I owned the 20GB iRiver and it indeed kicks ass with the optical out. I ended up with a couple of Ipods for the accessories and Bose sound dock. That is where Ipods shine in my opinion. Still the iRiver is far superior in most technical ways.
- dave8950, on 04/24/2008, -2/+11I don't think he meant for you to take his statement literally. Right or wrong, he was referring to the how he believes the target market (teenagers) view the competition's products, not whether or no they are actually computers.
- sonnysavage, on 04/24/2008, -3/+12Wow, saracasm is unpopular today I guess....
- cingulomaniac, on 04/24/2008, -2/+11Did any of you watch the video? He wasn't saying PCs are cheaper or Macs are faster and better, or any of that. He was simply saying the Apple brand is popular with the kids, and that its popularity has only just begun. This is the majority, by the way, which generally doesn't include the well-researched PC/Mac buyer, DIYers, and, I hate to break it to you, commenters on Digg. Get over yourself if you think he was talking about how he personally feels about Apple products, or if you think he was in any way referring to actual usability/superiority of any OS.
- Yodacola, on 04/24/2008, -6/+15This is a very misleading title. The video is much better.
- Geoffdiggs, on 04/24/2008, -3/+12I love paying an extra $500 for a glow in the dark mac logo!
no, but to be honest, the laptops are very well put together, my Acer looks like *****, sometime I wish the PC market would hire some freaking designers. - wvaughan, on 04/24/2008, -2/+10My fellow geeks... Jim was simply trying to explain to investors that Apple has tremendous brand appeal to younger people. While a cheap MP3 player can play songs just as well as an iPod, teens much prefer the Apple products because of the Apple brand. Having the latest iPhone is a status symbol. This means there is a large group of younger consumers who are very loyal to Apple. In the coming years, you can expect them to buy more Apple stuff as their purchasing power increases. I suggest everyone on this thread who disses Jim Cramer short AAPL and hang on to it for the next two years. Put your money where your mouth is!
- nebkiwi, on 04/24/2008, -0/+8good for you, no seriously I had a hackintosh before I got my macbook, it was awesome, good for trying it out before spending all your money, or if you don't actually want to give apple any of your money and just use a hackintosh... meh
- punkcat, on 04/24/2008, -13/+21the iTouch? the iPhone?
- notadiggtard, on 04/24/2008, -1/+9A lot more than half.I love it when people say"It's simple"and then go into a twenty minute explanation on how to do it.
How about"drag icon to your applications folder.done" - Spuy767, on 04/24/2008, -5/+13What he means, is that when your child says they want a "computer" for college, they really want a Mac.
- notadiggtard, on 04/24/2008, -3/+11Fragile?I've dropped my iPhone numerous times with no ill effects.
- centerblack, on 04/24/2008, -5/+13Mac OS X unintuitive? rofl. Lets just say you're used to the Windows way of things and didn't give it a real shot.
Who wants to deal with Microsofts add/remove software/hardware wizards? DLLs? Seriously, their OS is a ***** mess.
btw: If you want to play games the pro is a much better choice (because of the video card)... 65% of 512 megs? rofl. oh noes. - Avian00, on 04/24/2008, -0/+8Uhh... Zune? Xbox?
They may not have their own "Computer" (as in Desktop/Laptop), but they ARE trying to create a hardware-software ecosystem, quite similar to the iPod/iTunes model. - danielwsmithee, on 04/24/2008, -4/+11For the last 10 years I have worked with both Dell and Apple. For the typical systems we purchase Apple comes in either 2% more expensive or just a little bit cheaper depending on the configurations.
As far as support is concerned. If you actually engage Apple their support is far superior to Dells. Just last weak as an example I had a MacBook and Dell Latitude with bad drives. The Apple was up and running again with zero data loss in 1/3 the time of the Dell. Most companies claim Dell has better corporate support but that is only because the company themselves spend money on supporting Dells but won't for Apple. Most corporations have Dell certified techs but won't pay for Apple certified techs because they've chosen to use Dell. - eggsovereasy, on 04/24/2008, -0/+7Let's not confuse Dell's good business support with their god awful consumer support. We are talking bout consumers here and no one is worse than Dell.
However, their business support is amazing. We called about a bad RAM stick one time, the guy came over and replaced the motherboard too because one of the caps was starting to bulge a little, but it still worked. - centerblack, on 04/24/2008, -16/+23Anyone who has used Mac OS X on their main computer for a month will disagree with you. It has also been shown time and time again that a comparable system from any manufacturer like Dell costs the same or more.
- relayer2112, on 04/24/2008, -6/+12Jim Cramer's a self confessed stock manipulative ***** liar. Simply flush anything he says with all the other ***** in the world.
- centerblack, on 04/24/2008, -8/+14The vast majority of the world isn't swapping out the guts of their computers every 3-5 months, get a grip on reality. Even "gamers" aren't going to spend $300 on a video card more than once a year.
I'd like to hear what you think is so restrictive about OS X. It's extremely developer friendly and there are tons of open-source projects actively supporting an OS X branch (including a lot of OS X exclusive stuff). - Spuy767, on 04/24/2008, -2/+8He meant iPod. Didn't you hear him talk about colors?
- Aleman360, on 04/24/2008, -3/+9Way to use anecdotal evidence--from your own kids, who come from a wealthy family, no less--to make investment advice.
- iainc, on 04/24/2008, -1/+7Er, um. No hard drive? Solid state, convergent technology. Touch screen. How am I doing?
- pleaseremove, on 04/24/2008, -16/+22Give a kid a computer and they will learn to use it in amazing way, doesn't matter what OS it has. He just thinks OSX is so shiny and so all kids should love it to bits. As far as I'm concerned Apple make nice hardware and fairly impressive software, but both are still far too restrictive. And oh yes, he claims Macs are the only computers... that's when he moved from giving an opinion to preaching like a fanatic.
- migitalwarfare, on 04/24/2008, -2/+8hahaha, i haven't thought about winamp since 1999
- nebkiwi, on 04/24/2008, -5/+11really? i got a macbook and find leopard extremely fast. better than that piece of crap they call vista, takes about 2 minutes to boot up compared to 18 seconds on leopard on the same specs.
- ColonelJessup, on 04/24/2008, -12/+18That chick is really cute.
- centerblack, on 04/24/2008, -4/+9I'm pretty sure your iRiver can't stream music for free from last.fm
- NateTheApe21, on 04/24/2008, -2/+7i have never seen someone miss a point by so much
- inactive, on 04/24/2008, -5/+10I had a Dell laptop - its was ***** awful (seriously)
- inactive, on 04/25/2008, -0/+5Yeah. It's too bad clippy wasn't there to help you.
"It looks like you're a moron. Let me point you to the Dock. Oh wait, IT'S RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOUR F***ING FACE!" - kitsua, on 04/24/2008, -0/+5Well, writing from the UK, the Apple brand is very strong here. I live in a house that had six Macs in it at one point, and most of my friends and colleagues have them (or want one). Obviously, the iPod is ubiquitous, but I only know one other person other than myself who has an iPhone.
The Apple store in Regent Street is huge and more and more people are becoming interested in the possibility of deciding on an Apple product. Other than that, the general state of affairs is fairly similar to the one in America (ie; No Macs in business or enterprise, but practically no Windows machines at all in the Professional creative industry).
Linux, on the other hand, is still practically unknown. I was introduced to it by a friend and he remains the only person I know who has even the slightest clue about it. Hopefully, the rise of Ubuntu will address this. - blakeage, on 04/24/2008, -4/+9And you've already lost half the population....
