- jericko, on 01/03/2009, -1/+38I love Craigslist, where else can you find a cheap kitchen table, and a hooker on the same page?
- Falldog, on 01/03/2009, -5/+33Why do you need an app when you can, oh I dunno, just visit the page on your browser?
- doiveo, on 01/03/2009, -4/+27"Craig and his minions" Isn't that like 4 people
- legoalert33, on 01/03/2009, -2/+204chan
- inactive, on 01/03/2009, -1/+17I already have Criagslist on my phone, its called a web browser, works quite well. Is it me or are alot of these iPhone apps just front ends to web sites? Some even costing money, which I guess is a test to see how dumb people are.
This isn't news, its iPhone Spam. - gr00vy, on 01/03/2009, -1/+16No Adult Content.
No Casual Connections. No Erotic Services. No Images in the Personal Section.
It's ***** Craigslist. Why do I need an Iphone app to by my Parent. I can get the full Craigslist via Safari. But I can't in the App. Give Me a ***** break. - DreamVsPs2, on 01/03/2009, -7/+18craigslist also has a mobile site which i use
http://mobile.craigslist.org/ - mehan, on 01/03/2009, -2/+12craigslist is web 2.0?
- tzon, on 01/03/2009, -0/+9haha funny. At least I get it.
- solidwhetstone, on 01/03/2009, -0/+9You ended your comment with a comma,
- dagamer34, on 01/03/2009, -0/+9You've obviously never tried to visit craigslist on an iPhone. It's not that great. Plus you can't post any new items either.
- dagamer34, on 01/03/2009, -1/+8It absolutely is a 1.0 website, and I think it somewhat runs better that way, otherwise it'd be crashing from server overload all the time.
Too bad Craig Newmark prefers to keep his site's data to himself. This iPhone app isn't using an API, but instead scraping the data in real-time. That makes it a lot worse if this app becomes really popular, and it might get shut down. - inactive, on 01/03/2009, -0/+7Awesome! Now let me get to the erotic section!
- ECas123, on 01/03/2009, -6/+12Enjoy it while you can.
- zydeco, on 01/03/2009, -0/+6This new app isn't much help, either.
- antonio97b, on 01/03/2009, -3/+8Why change something that works?
It's reliable, fast, and easy to use. - sdipaola, on 01/03/2009, -7/+12use your browser - avoid these apps - it just puts middlemen between you and the craigslist crew or any small web company. Wouldn't large corps like Apple and ATT love it if you had to go through their stores/rules/cost structures for getting to things on the web - it is AOL all over again. The web was meant to empower the little guy - you and at one point this "little guy" Craig in his SF basement. Think I'm over the top - well if you like what Craig Newmark has done, listen to his view on issues like this (see Charlie Rose interview) - he's all about local empowerment.
- Rekutyn, on 01/03/2009, -0/+5Google App? Exists.
- kajoob, on 01/04/2009, -0/+4wooooooooooooosh
- Chairboy, on 01/03/2009, -0/+4It's not showing up in the AppStore yet, so perhaps this story was posted a little early. Right now, the only way to get it is to download it to iTunes and sync.
- tux11, on 01/03/2009, -1/+5whats that even mean?
- johndoughy, on 01/03/2009, -0/+4This is retarded. Next there will be an iPhone app that BRINGS GOOGLE SEARCH STRAIGHT TO YOUR 3G IPHONE!!!!
When are they going to make an internet browsing app? I'd like to use the internet. - misterjangles, on 01/03/2009, -0/+3i agree with you that there are some pretty useless apps. but, then again you could make the same argument about google maps. the iphone version gives you the same info you can get on the site, but clearly it's a convenient app. i think it's a matter of how well the app UI is done and how efficiently the web service supports the app. when you have a slow connection it can be painful waiting for a page to load in safari just so you can enter your search term. clicking the back button usually causes a full page reload. it's not always the greatest experience. for me a good app has to do more than just re-format the data for the iphone - it remembers preferences, speeds up access to the info, reduces keystrokes, etc.
as far as craigslist, i haven't tried craigsphone, but i've been using a free app called craigsearch. it has room for improvement, but it's not bad when you have a slow connection. - pathouston22, on 01/03/2009, -2/+5Epic fail?
- kreatre2007, on 01/03/2009, -1/+4I know Apple fixed that... Did you read what I said? I said "Apple should have had restrictions on commenting without first purchasing an app from the very start." That's to say that they didn't have this restriction at the beginning but, they do now. I develop iPhone apps. I'm well aware of the restrictions on the app store. I would say that the biggest problem with people commenting is that they often do so without bothering to ask for tech support or, they will send a request for support, get their problem fixed and, still leave negative comments. It's pretty much a no-win situation for developers. We work our asses off to create apps and then, someone with a chip on their shoulder downloads the app, bitches about the price and then, leaves bad comments because they don't understand the basics of powering off the iPhone and powering it back on, restoring, deleting the app from the iPhone and then reloading it, etc. It's a real pity that so much technology is in the hands of complete morons who have no understanding of what it takes to bring such a great product to the market.
- jason2li, on 01/04/2009, -0/+3Hey everybody! Come see how good I look!
- easternpa, on 01/03/2009, -2/+5You forgot "and a hooker TO BANG ON THAT TABLE"
- thegman3, on 01/04/2009, -0/+2I couldn't agree with you more. I mean WTF?
- ahfarmer, on 01/03/2009, -0/+2From the developer: you can also visit http://craigsphone.com in safari on your iPhone to get the app.
- walrusonion, on 01/03/2009, -0/+2alright casual encounters on the go!
- razrielle, on 01/03/2009, -1/+3exactly, when I was bored at work I used to go on craigslist with my sidekick, i should have made an article about that years ago
- electricwaffles, on 01/03/2009, -1/+3OK, it's a lot nicer than the Craigslist Web interface. But did this really need an APP? Why not just make it a mobile web version?
- gr00vy, on 01/03/2009, -0/+2Except you can't
- PCGUY112887, on 01/03/2009, -1/+3I can understand some iPhone apps just being front ends to websites, such as the eBay application, it's very handy. But Craigslist is all text, just use the browser! It works great being all text.
- inactive, on 01/03/2009, -1/+3Don't forget blog and power digger spam.
- paulieman, on 01/04/2009, -0/+2Ads are censored and if they are beyond what the app store is comfortable with, you get a nice little message telling you so. ***** that *****!
- bodhibay, on 01/04/2009, -0/+2with whatever you'd like to imagine,
- ahfarmer, on 01/03/2009, -0/+2From the developer: One thing that would be impossible without an App is photo upload during the post process. iPhone's Safari is missing file upload altogether.
http://craigsphone.com - inactive, on 01/03/2009, -0/+2Missed Connection should be easier to connect.
- esquire360, on 01/05/2009, -0/+2Craigslist = awesome, craigslist the website is a disaster in my opinion... i long for a revamp.... ok craig keep it 5 years behind the curve... cool, but not 20... geesh it's time.... allow paying subscribers to have global search thats fine...
- theweblug, on 01/03/2009, -0/+2Apple taketh away the adult features - not craigslist.
Someone should make a jailbroken app that has the full functionality of craigslist - just saying. - inactive, on 01/03/2009, -1/+3Oh sorry, didn't notice when you said "from the very start". Good luck with your apps.
- inactive, on 01/03/2009, -0/+2http://www.motiont.com/craigslistreader.aspx
- ahfarmer, on 01/03/2009, -0/+2From the developer:
craigsphone is and always will be just as free as craigslist is - and we're not a large company like ATT. We're just 4 mobile geeks working to make the mobile web easier for you to use.
http://craigsphone.com - tyler0is0sexy, on 01/04/2009, -0/+2that way you could continue his thought,
- paulieman, on 01/04/2009, -0/+2Nice... LOL!
- McNash, on 01/05/2009, -0/+1Looks awesome, does it have a mobile web page or is it app only?
- 2liter, on 01/03/2009, -0/+1Far as I can tell, the only thing this app has to offer is the ability to post. The interface is horrible, it has no subcategory support, and no personals section. I figured I'd give it a try since it was free (the screenshots didn't impress me) but after playing with it for about 5 minutes I deleted it. I bought CraigsMobileList a while ago and it's still my favorite and has pretty much everything except posting. Hopefully they add it soon.
