Couch crafted from 20 Macintosh II computers (PIC). Yes you can sit on it
newlaunches.com — Recycling old peripherals is a good idea, especially if you add a dash of creativity to it. The Mac Store in Maryland Heights, Missouri had 20 Macintosh II computers lying around gathering dust. They decided to tinker around and make a (un) comfy couch out of it.

- seventoes, on 10/10/2007, -4/+81Looks uncomfortable...
- vapblack, on 10/10/2007, -2/+13True, you CAN sit on needles but dosen't mean you'll like it.
- turpenine, on 10/10/2007, -1/+23looks more like a bench comfort wise.
- SuperJimmyJimbo, on 10/10/2007, -2/+28just wait till the firmware update, I'm sure they'll fix that issue.
- krackle, on 10/10/2007, -9/+1I think you mean software update.
- antdude, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Probably hot if they are on too. :D
- Almightymole, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Good for those winter evenings.
- KibibyteBrain, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3It could save a ton of energy...heat just your couch, not your house.
Also, what the heck store is this? "The Mac Store"? Some indie mac place? About all we have in terms of specialized mac retailers that aren't apple stores where I come from are tech benches. It would be really cool to have a non apple owned apple store type setup, so you could the straight dope on things.
- robbob, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1After a few asses, its official...Apple Stinks!
- Rikushix, on 10/10/2007, -16/+8I think that would be great to have a prop on The Office. Something Michael could buy with the deluded perception that it was a good addition to the branch.
- vapblack, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1I can see it.
- nreynolds, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4didn't you even see last week's episode? Computers want you to drive your cars into lakes. Michael HATES technology.
- Rikushix, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1But old, nostalgic technology is good.
I don`t like being dugg down :(- drewlynde, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Honestly, I buried you just because you were whining.
- Rikushix, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1But old, nostalgic technology is good.
- Scheissen, on 10/10/2007, -26/+2"the original top-of-the-line Mac II sold for around $5,500, when you work out the Math, the couch could cost over $100,000!"
umm Does this guy think TECHNOLOGY (where did it say these are "top-of-the-line" Macs that the couch is made out of?) said stay the same price over twenty years?- Dominatus, on 10/10/2007, -1/+20He's being playful, not serious. Are you really that stupid?
- ChayD, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10S'true - Macs don't depreciate, they just mature.
- statix, on 10/10/2007, -16/+99glad it wasn't made from windows pcs....or else it would've just crashed...
/badjoke- dynacrylic, on 10/10/2007, -7/+19I liked the joke...
- Xolotl2, on 10/11/2007, -9/+2please don't ruin jokes or sarcasm with /*joke or /sarcasm
- childleftbehind, on 10/10/2007, -3/+3Please get laid, even if you need to pay for it.
- ttamshadbolt, on 10/10/2007, -3/+4Joke?
- expatcatalyst, on 10/10/2007, -3/+0or possibly bloated and soft....
- gonegoogling, on 10/10/2007, -4/+10its more than 20
- tingrin87, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8it's resting on 5 boxes-

- tingrin87, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8it's resting on 5 boxes-
- whatthefu, on 10/10/2007, -3/+7If they covered it with soft cushions and other things then they could put it to good use.
- KevenM, on 10/10/2007, -3/+26I'll stand thank you.
- dynacrylic, on 10/10/2007, -8/+3I'm sorry, but that looks like one uncomfortable couch to have sex on, let alone sit on....unless I've had a few drinks.
- turpenine, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7doesn't make it more comfy. sorry.
- GeneralFailure0, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1What girl would have sex with you on a couch made of Macintosh II computers without having a few drinks first anyway?
- cgc2020, on 10/10/2007, -11/+3Wow...what a waste of so many good boat anchors.
- cgc2020, on 10/10/2007, -12/+3What a terrible waste of so many good boat anchors.
- ChayD, on 10/10/2007, -5/+3iCouch(tm).
Actually, no, iSit(tm) would have been better.- KloroFormd, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Cut holes in the center of them and put rubber seals around the sharp edges and it could be the *****.
- astrosmash, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8Mmm. Classic Mac pr0n.
- lobbster, on 10/10/2007, -1/+25mouse pad couch looked a lot more comfortable
- ThreeDee912, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10Speaking of mouse pad couches:
http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/mousepad/mousepad-couch ... - nebel, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1All you need is a CRT trash can and the set up is complete.
- ThreeDee912, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10Speaking of mouse pad couches:
- Ubertastic, on 10/10/2007, -2/+21I can see the article two days from now.
'Have you ever did sex on a Macintosh II couch?'- DefaultGen, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1I lol'd
- newbill123, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1"Were you *conceived* on a Mac II couch?"
(of course, it was only 24bit clean so I'm not sure I'd admit to be spawned on an array of them)
- gilbert2048, on 10/10/2007, -7/+5the only real use for macs they also make good chairs
- juggalofr33k, on 10/10/2007, -6/+9dugg because i live in Maryland Heights and I've sat on it... maybe i should go back and get a picture of me on it....
- casiotonenation, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Same, though I live in Creve Coeur.
- joegibes, on 10/10/2007, -4/+2I've never met a couch I couldn't sit on.
- damm, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1original source... blogspam on top of blogspam.
http://www.bradlands.com/scrapbooks/mac2couch.html - mayonaise15, on 10/10/2007, -4/+9I wonder if Macs like it when people crash on them?

- rocknroll4ever, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1It might not be Microsoft but you can bet its Maxihard to sit on !!
- macguy815, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2I saw that and I thought it looked familiar- I loved that store before the apple store opened up in St. louis. I imagine that stole a lot of business from them.
(It's at the MacStore in St. Louis, MO btw) - Trihedralguy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Thats been in that ruddy old store for years. I didn't even know that mac store was open, its in a hidden location and if you didn't know better you wouldn't even guess it was there. Their back room is amazing though (at least when I was there last time) They have a giant warehouse filled to the brim with mac parts.
- macguy815, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I'm sad to report this store went out of business a few years ago
- subterfuge, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8maybe they shouldn't have spent their time making a sofa out of old computers
- MrLeEx, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1imagine moving that thing...
- SuperJimmyJimbo, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10Bah! just don't install the "couch update, ver: 1.1.1".
- Spider84, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Several years ago I read about coach crafted from mouse pads. Now it is crafted from computers. Whats next?
- shawnz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2fabric.
- Alex2, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I'm just waiting for the Fonz to say "Sit on it Potsie!"
- childleftbehind, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1As long as I can play Oregon Trail while I am waiting to see the dentist I am sold.
- Pbrane101, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3It seems like all the best mac collections are in the midwest. Take that San Francisco!
- tracker198x, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1breathtaking
- bbland, on 10/10/2007, -6/+2but will it blend?

- subterfuge, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Puts the "ouch" in "couch"!
- Tarantulas, on 10/10/2007, -3/+2I've actually sat on that couch.
- compgeek, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1awesome use of some old hardware. throw some padding and a throw blanket on it and hey it could actually be useable heck I could think of any number of things to add to it to make it the ultimate geek couch
- Lane, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3What an innovative way to get out of landfill cost!
- MattInChicago, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3This is about 5-6 years old.
- rspeed, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I have a vague recollection of seeing this in MacAddict around 1998.
- MadScientist440, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0I count at least 25 Macs... and isn't that more like a bench? Couches are soft where I come from.
- ClickSnd, on 10/10/2007, -2/+0Look what happens when a bunch of Missouri hillbillies work at a computer store.
- amonkey, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Nope, if it was hillbillies it would be on the porch
- andrgo, on 10/10/2007, -5/+2OMG CAN YOU SIT ON IT?!!??!?!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
- GeneralFailure0, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1The question is: Can iSit on it?
- ibone, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Beautiful. You know my company has a room full of old servers stacked on the ground, you can sit on them as well.
Guess when you put the word Mac or Apple on a digg title it instantly hits the front page.
Pretty ***** lame I say. - voodoozombie, on 10/10/2007, -4/+2Finally a good use for a Mac! It’s about time!
- yfguitarist, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I was about to ask if it was possible to actually sit on the Macincouch but the submitter answered that for me in the headline.
- timsit, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7It was 35 computers not 20. I worked for and helped build this couch at the MacStore. Sadly when the company was sold the new owners did not have any respect for it and broke it up and threw it away. And yes it was uncomfortable but a great conversation starter. Here's a link to the original post I did to MacObserver back in 2001.

We even had flower boxes made out of Mac LC's out front - slashdotordigg, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0where is apple shaped pillow?
- roberto_deneero, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Imagine how ugly it would have been if it was made from PC XTs.
