- macbot, on 10/10/2007, -7/+78buried as inaccurate. There's no mention of the WiFi chip used either but we know it has WiFi. Very important as the WiFi chips from CSR, Marvell and Broadcom will include the Bluetooth radio.
- Unr3a1, on 10/10/2007, -2/+20And here is the actual dissection: http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/iPod/iPod-Touch/130
- lostboy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12And your point is? While I commend your hanging to your hopes with your fingertips, this is a touched up press photo and shoddy evidence at best
- cyssero, on 04/18/2009, -0/+11You know that imagine was originally found on the Apple website..
- wal9000, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10Not quite what engadget says about it:
"What a tease. The ifixit tear down we've all been waiting for on the iPod touch fails to specifically exclude the existence of Bluetooth silicon or even point out which chip is providing the WiFi. After all, Broadcom, Marvell, and CSR all offer single-chip solutions with combined WiFi and Bluetooth radios. Hell, they'll even integrate an FM radio if you ask real nice. Ah well, perhaps those of you with more IC-focused eyes can take a look at these snaps and bring an end to the Bluetooth in iPod touch mystery once and for all. Otherwise, we're looking at a Foxconn manufactured iPod with Toshiba (not Samsung) flash NAND memory, Wolfson audio chip, and what appears to be a Samsung manufactured ARM processor presumed to be "very, very similar" to the proc found in the iPhone."
Personally, I don't care. There's nothing wrong with plugging in a wire to sync music... - afterwego, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9Please re-read this story. Gizmodo has added two updates to the original story and it now sounds like they jumped the gun on the no bluetooth comment. It is still under investigation, so there is nothing final about it.
- martyFREEDOM, on 10/10/2007, -5/+14"- Samsung memory (like the iPhone's)"
These people apparently can not read the big Toshiba logo on the NAND chips. - zachninme, on 10/10/2007, -3/+12You should learn top spell correctly, its hard top understand you.
- gcnaddict, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9And I love how you are being dugg down too. You actually have a very good point.
- m3mn0n, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Wow. The guy really knows his Apple gizmo internals.
- jonr, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7The ARM is everywhere... Brings tear to my eye, it's such a beautyful chip.
- geminitojanus, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8My company uses the same diagnostic firmware for every piece of hardware we push out. Almost none of them have exactly the same hardware.
Apple is fairly obviously sharing the firmware with the iPhone. - TheWiredNerv, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9You have to be a level 20 fanboy to activate the bluetooth. Go grind some more ipods and you'll get there in no time!
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7FTA:
"UPDATE 1: We're talking more to iFixit on the matter. There was a faulty consensus that their lack of report on Bluetooth implied that there was no Bluetooth. That was our mistake.
UPDATE 2: From iFixit: We're looking into it. It's hard to say because they can disguise bluetooth antenna on the PCB and the chip could be integrated into something else. I'll see what I can dig up." - HAKdragon, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6.5m x .5m? I think they really need to work on miniaturization.
- XedLos, on 10/10/2007, -11/+17Pic of German apple site that had the iPod Touch with bluetooth

- DirtySnachez, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7COOL !
- RoundysSince, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7Um I think my earlier comment is being mistaken as Apple Hate, which is very unfortunate because I've been waiting for the Touch for nearly 2 years now. I just thought it was silly for us to keep hoping for something that isn't there.
- DavidRoss, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5"This shot is dominated by the Apple ARM chip and the stacked Toshiba (!) flash chips."
"The Apple-branded ARM has chip markings 339S0029ARM 8900B 0731 NOKCYY2, while the on-stack memory has markings K4X1GA53PE-XGC3 YME097N6 731. The K4 indicates this is Samsung memory, so the chip is probably Samsung manufactured just like the iPhone."
They are saying the "on-stack" memory is made by Samsung, this seems to be the memory on the Arm processor, as the K4 they refer to is printed on the processor. They are not talking about the 8GB of Ram. - Terc, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Oh... so why didn't the diagnostic software have anything about the iPhone's GSM radio?
- helloyamadotcom, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5"These people apparently can not read"
Oh, the irony. - johnpaul191, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5good call!
- DirtySnachez, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5LIAR !
- gwolf, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6I get that there's no Blue-tooth; my question is why the hell not. Provably scheduled to be doled out in 6 months or so.
- beggersfunk, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I don't mind no bluetooth, but hell why in the world ipod touch cant do enable disk mode...that bites!
- johnpaul191, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3no bluetooth, or disabled bluetooth. that was the question.
it's known that the iPod touch has some differences from the iPhone that are just software. for example, the calendar is read only on the iPod Touch. if Apple is going to differentiate the two devices like that (with software), then they could have just left out the bluetooth driver. - dagamer34, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Because if you did that, you wouldn't buy the iPhone. Cannibalization much?
- rheaume, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Can you use the Wifi to transfer songs from one ipod to another? No? Why is it ok now and the Zune got raped for that?
- Gryffydd, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I think most people (including myself) are more interested on being able to use a Bluetooth headset with Skype. On the other hand, one could just go get a Nokia N800 and get Skype, just about any IM ever, a higher resolution screen, expandable memory etc etc etc.
- mikesum32, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3It's not a spelling error; it's a typo. There is a difference. The "O" key is next to the"P" key, and his finger slipped. That's a typo. A spelling mistake would mean he actually thought "to" was spelled with a "P." Yes, "top" is a word, but you should be able to recognize a finger-slip by now.
/pedantic - MrViklund, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Well there are new rumors out there that it has Bluetooth, but it's well hidden. But they will eventually find it.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5People are dumb.
What does Bluetooth circuitry cost? I'll pull a number out of my ass and say $20. So, for every 1 million iPods Apple sells it costs them $20 million for bluetooth hardware, whether it's utilized or not.
On the other hand, what does it cost Apple to leave the Bluetooth hooks in the iPod software? $0.00.
Which do you think is the more likely scenario?
Yes, Bluetooth was on the table for the iPod touch. Yes, it existed in the prototypes. No, it's not in the production iPods. - johnpaul191, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4i kind of wish there was an iPod touch with the mechanical HDD of the iPod classic. not that i want a mechanical drive, but the storage of my 60GB drive is too much to give up no matter how cool the touch is. my iPod usually stays charged in my car (or a wall charger when i'm traveling), so i don't have to dock it all the time. i generally dock it to sync podcasts, not plan my music for the next few days.
- uptown, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3To prevent people from using a BT headset, and turning it into a wifi phone....
- razrielle, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2tell that to my phone which cuts the battery time by a third if you use a bluetooth head set
- Wandel, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Remainder from using the same OS as the iPhone and the X indicated that it wasn't there?
- theprez, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2But beeing that the iPhone and iPod Touch are so similar and the iPhone DOES have Bluetooth, everybody has the hope the Touch has it, so they can own Apple by enabling it and using the Touch as a Wi-Fi phone. Personally I don't think it has it: an edited image is a bad source where this rumor emerged from anyway. It's more likely the guy who did the image implied the Touch had bluetooth "like the iPhone" since it had Wi-Fi. Little do some people know that your highness, Jobs with Apple take some serious action to allow for you to do only what they want you to. And this comes from a 10-year Mac user...
- withears, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2JEALOUS!
- Gryffydd, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1When that MP3 player includes a web browser and a wifi connection, there's all sorts of great things to do. The thing is, the iPod Touch isn't an "MP3 Player"
- BryanJK, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Updated Article:
http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/confirmed/ipod-touch-definitely-has-no-bluetooth-so-enough-already-updated-300227.php - turquoisefish, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I remember from my (boring) Wireless network lessons that Bluetooth is supposed to be under $5 per device, I don't know if that price point has been achieved in real terms though.
- HappyScrappy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Bluetooth takes very little power. It's not a power issue.
- Billions, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1You better go buy that Nokia then. Sounds like a good phone.
- zippy757, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Bluetooth SUCKS power...that's been one of it's main problems being accepted over the years....it's a huge issue....
- HappyScrappy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1How about because Apple had no plans to use the Bluetooth and so they left it out to save money?
- aedenp, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1"UPDATE 1: We're talking more to iFixit on the matter.
I'll see what I can dig up.[ifixit]"
that doesn't sound like confirmed, at all, to me. good ole' gizmodo... - juicebag, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Umm, how would bluetooth help an MP3 player?
- HappyScrappy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2The WiFi chip on the iPhone doesn't include the Bluetooth radio, why do you think it would be so on the Touch?
- jeremiahbarrar, on 09/26/2008, -0/+0It's not on the ipod touch so people buy the iphone instead, cause it has more features.
