- neocitron, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18why are there so many undocumented tricks in OS X that i have yet to know about? i mean i though i knew all about this OS already... then bam..some remote trick...
- 5thfreedom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15Too bad you can't turn the computer on with the remote too.
- cwoolf34, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12and you can put it to sleep with the remote. Just hold down the play btn for 5 seconds.
- Disodium, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12ya, but you can bring it out of sleep with it however
- DeezKnots, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7(a) Because not many people in the world know about it and it is nice to know that the remote has some control over how the computer boots.
(b) Read (a) again.
You're fussy because your G5 doesn't have a remote. Dugg. - actorboy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Because the users Dugg it and there are only so many 'Library of Tolkien Languages' stories out there.
- Ilyanep, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5This is one of those things that are really cool and yet aren't very useful for the vast majority of people. Granted I can see some uses for it (let's say you're making a presentation and you need to switch between OSs), but not much :)
- dusingaz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3good if you have limited access to the computer/keyboard like in a media setup and want to control boot from afar
- Hellion, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Aren't those really cool, really pointless little gimmicks the best part of tech, though?
- ronaldpoi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I'd like to use the remote to change between slides when the pictures screensaver in on...
- olliholliday, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5surely in sleep the boot drive's not gona change... cos the OS has already loaded up.
- kajoob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Cool undocumented trick, but can anyone think of a practical application of this?
- actorboy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Yes, alej744, but you can't type with the remote yet.
- gsoftcomputers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1everything is not just about you...
- Cputerace, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1edit- wrong post
- sleepwalkers, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I realize that people are digging it and all, but personally I just don't see why something as small as this is reaching the front page. Yes, I realize not many people know this, but it's not like they're gaining a useful function of their computer when they learn about it.
It seems pretty stupid and pointless to me. Guess it's just me that feels that way, then.
*Shrug* - Legolover64, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Very cool!
Now all we need is the iBook's Intel sibling - Dakoman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2bah, i've been doing this for ages (albeit accidental how i discovered it)
- dimplemonkey, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2This is interesting. Makes me wonder if this is a precursor to Media Center-like Macs.
- rspeed, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1This isn't part of OS X at all. The boot selector is part of EFI.
- CasaMan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1He probably doesn't have dual boot either.
- TehFRAG, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2would be cool if this worked with rEFIt.
- alej744, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1Coolio WHEEHEE!!!Q WHEEEEE
SWITCH OPERATING SYSTEMS ITH AREMOTE CONTRLLLL AWHOOOHOOW HEEE
HIS OS AWESOME!!!! - alej744, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1
- sleepwalkers, on 10/12/2007, -21/+3(a) Why is this a Digg article?
(b) Why is this on the front page?
I know it's a cool trick and all, and yes, I have a PowerMac G5 that I love, but I don't really care if I can use the remote to choose boot drives. I mean, I don't care if this is modded down, but compared to stories like the air-less tire, this is just... stupid.
