- GMills, on 08/22/2008, -12/+98Oh No now the chinese can't download crappy DRM protected music like Americans can
- simplyintricate, on 08/23/2008, -4/+46I am Chinese and from all the stories I hear from my friends that go back every now and then during the summer, they say that it's not so bad. Even my parents admit that it has been an improvement from the past. If you went back a dozen years during a stricter ruling government where you'd be shot dead if you tore up Mao's picture, that would be bad. But right now, people are just content so there's no reason to overthrow the government.
However, when the government fails to provide food for people and people start getting hungry, that's when riots start, that's when revolution starts. It will not start because people are happy, they don't care. It's comparable to the proles in the book "1984" with the occasional dissenter that's taken care of. If I remember correctly, they fed them cheap porn, cheap bread, and let them do what they wanted to as long as it wasn't politically against the party's line. It was effective.
As bad as the Chinese government may seem, it's not going to have a revolution any time soon. It might if we have a global economic collapse, though. My parents urge me to go visit China, but I plan to boycott China until it gets better. Especially since my political ideology is the complete opposite of the communist pary of China. - inactive, on 08/23/2008, -0/+28Yeah, like they download music legally.
- Lith25, on 08/23/2008, -1/+29It does own...too bad it isn't being followed anymore.
- HeavyWave, on 08/23/2008, -23/+48iTunes sucks anyway
- WestonP, on 08/23/2008, -6/+27This sounds like something that China would do, but Fox News is reporting it, so I'm not sure...
- jdoublehcubed, on 08/23/2008, -3/+21Its one thing to block a small activist site that has no power to speak out or do anything. Apple spends billions of dollars on Chinese manufacturing; they won't take this for long.
- ChromaVita, on 08/23/2008, -0/+16Nope. You're the only one.
- simplyintricate, on 08/23/2008, -1/+16Communist? I've been talking about free market, laissez faire economics to every Chinese person I've met. Not only that, I support 100% a libertarian government meaning it should be extremely small.
In fact, did you read my last sentence? I think you're either stereotyping or a plain racist. - enkideridu, on 05/15/2009, -0/+15I actually saw a boxed set of Grand Theft Auto in a place that supposedly sells legal games in Beijing.
They had GTA I through VI (yes, 6) - dododohead, on 08/23/2008, -1/+16I am Chinese too and I can vouch for you. I know its hard for some people to believe and I've told many the same thing. My relatives and friends had it pretty bad, but nowadays some kick it better than I do.
I'm not sure where you;re going about boycotting China but i won't get into that.
I think what Mao failed at is actually keeping the CCP communist. Traditional Chinese Thought has begun to overtake their political idealogies. Everything assimilates into China, even a puny onslaught of communist ideas. - inactive, on 08/28/2008, -0/+14nobody falls for the uuiU anymore
- digitalpencil, on 08/23/2008, -0/+14way to speak your mind..
- lineweight, on 08/23/2008, -3/+14Bash FOX all you want, they suck. But the news came from the AP. Read the article.
- VTECjunkie, on 08/23/2008, -3/+14At least this will save the Chinese from the ***** iphone updates apple has been putting out since 2.0
- NSResponder, on 08/23/2008, -0/+9Well, that depends. Apple probably has very little revenue from iTunes in China, and it might be more trouble than it's worth to move their manufacturing to India, Thailand, Indonesia, Taiwan, Malaysia, Vietnam, Singapore...
Hmm.. Come to think of it, there are a lot of other places to do electronics manufacturing.
-jcr - copypastry, on 08/23/2008, -2/+11I was kind of excited, I thought it was a new David Tibet album.
Alas it wasn't - avrygoodfrnd, on 08/23/2008, -1/+10It doesn't count when people are brainwashed and afraid, but if enough people, like millions, were to try and make a stand, then the Chinese government wouldn't stand a chance... Why do you think they're always censoring things that would make people feel rebellious? If numbers didn't count then they wouldn't care.....
- mRIpX, on 08/23/2008, -3/+11Calm down little man
- Netik09, on 08/23/2008, -0/+8A comment saying "no comment"? Nice.
- ineptsavant, on 08/23/2008, -2/+10umm I call BS.. I live in China and the itunes store has been working for me without interruption for the past few weeks(yes I even saw the promotional album that is being discussed). It is working now too. Buried for being not true . *edit* it works for a friend of mine who's on the other side of China too.
- enkideridu, on 05/15/2009, -1/+8REVOLUTION!!
*BOOM goes the People's Hall*
*foreign investigators move businesses/factories to place with political stability*
*anybody who could afford a plane ticket packs all their money and leaves*
*N amount of unarmed poor people get killed*
YAY! WE JUST ***** OURSELVES! - TokenBlack, on 08/23/2008, -4/+11Alas, Microsoft's chance to finally get the Zune off the ground.
Kidding aside, I do like my Zune 80 a lot more than any iPod I have had. Personal preference, I guess. - northernmunky, on 08/23/2008, -2/+9he's being dugg down for arrogance and poor use of the English language
- Victorface, on 08/23/2008, -2/+9Nobody wants to revolt because they're getting rich(er) from all of the economic growth (kind of like proles in 1984), except for Tibet because they're getting poorer from all the inflation, and the government doesn't want to help Tibet because that would be Communist, and they don't want to do anything Communist. Hell, China doesn't even have socialized medicine anymore.
- tech42er, on 08/23/2008, -0/+6So is Wired ( http://blog.wired.com/music/2008/08/china-blocks-a ... ) Not everything from Fox News is untrue.
- jinwuyin, on 08/23/2008, -0/+6past news, now can access again.
- avrygoodfrnd, on 08/23/2008, -4/+10Its about time the chinese have their own little revolution... There are 1.3 billion people, I think if they tried they could definitely overthrow the current government. Of course I'm not chinese, so maybe they like the current setup??
- dododohead, on 08/23/2008, -0/+6good point, although sometimes music in China is cheaper even when its real so I don't mind.
- bjornski, on 08/23/2008, -1/+6Exactly.
It makes as much sense as rioters burning down their own neighborhoods. - LtXenodite, on 08/23/2008, -0/+5You're a ***** retard. Or that was a poor attempt at sarcasm.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tibet - Tyrghast, on 08/23/2008, -6/+11Woo yeah let's free Tibet, that way the Dalai Lama can reinstate the priest class and force the Tibetan people to serve them again.
Do your homework folks, the Tibetan people were slaves under the old government. - pinchduck, on 08/23/2008, -3/+8Millions of songs unavailable because one of them criticizes the government? What a bunch of pansies. They get the gold medal for the ultimate cowardice: Being afraid of a song.
- ileftfark, on 08/23/2008, -1/+6I think more governments should be blocking access to Alanis Morisette. It's the responsible thing to do.
- unorginalityftw, on 08/23/2008, -1/+6Uhm... no... no we are all not...
- isimon42o, on 08/23/2008, -3/+7just wait...
- enkideridu, on 05/15/2009, -2/+6What's the point?
Chinese people don't buy music off of itunes in china anyway...
This is yahoo! China : http://mp3.yahoo.com.cn/
a legit business..think about what indie chinese music sites provide - TwiztOG43, on 08/23/2008, -1/+5i know your trying to be sarcastic, but you just sound stupid right now!
- inactive, on 08/23/2008, -1/+5The people digging him and ultimately me down should head over to china for a few years and see what it's like.
- inactive, on 08/23/2008, -3/+7yeah i remember that. "It's just a goddamned piece of paper!"
- netglitch, on 08/23/2008, -2/+6Just like me boycotting America because their government and its agents act like fascists .
- inactive, on 08/23/2008, -1/+5I'm no herpes-carrying meme creator but... Isn't it "inb4"?
- dododohead, on 08/23/2008, -0/+3they are free anyway...
- wedderburn, on 08/23/2008, -1/+4you know most revolutions only happen when your way of life is threatened not when the government does something unpopular.
- inactive, on 08/23/2008, -0/+3Like anyone one in china actually uses itunes or anything like that. They get all their entertainment needs from pirates. From botlegg movies to all kinds of *****. I wouldn't be surprised if they bought their ipod filled with music.
- enkideridu, on 05/15/2009, -1/+4IMO It's about setting clear boundaries.
If people think they can upload and download songs with agendas counter to those of the party, they might start podcasting anti-party speeches. - MacParrot, on 08/23/2008, -1/+4@bjornski
Welcome to Washington DC, Detroit, Cleveland 1968! - inkhead, on 08/23/2008, -2/+5Yeah that's good China.. you are Apple's bitch and you know it. What with your millions making iPods and all.
Enjoy that *****. -
