- conigs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Don't get me wrong, I'm an apple fanboy.... but doesn't Andy Ihnatko also work for MacWorld? Not exactly unbiased.
- triphop, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Another one of those "Opinions are like *****" columns... Nothing to see, move along.
- Flyngwalrus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What in the name of *****'s ***** does he know?
I'd like to meet this man who's apparently tested every OS on earth.
Maybe he thinks the planet consists of OS X and XP ... in which case, he's absolutely correct. - vonskippy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Stupid me, went to college, got two master's degrees (one is in EE) and all I had to do was ask a fanboy newspaper writer. Boy there's several years of my life I'll never get back.
- djtripp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That is true, he's been a Mac pundit for years. I saw him in 2000 at the Expo In SF.
- mbwilliamson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Stupid fanboys. All OSes have their advantages and disadvantages. Pick one or more that's optimal for what you do.
- TubaFrog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Who is this guy and why should I care what his blog says?
- md10md, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Pointless story. Reported lame.
- spectre_25gt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I love OSX, but I will never say it is the be-all / end-all of operating systems. There are things that Linux is MUCH more suited for. I'd never want to run a web server on OS X. Hell, there's probably something that Windows does better, but I'd have a hard time figuring out what.
Btw, if you have Macs crashing all the time then you've got some broken ass Macs. Stability really isn't that much of an issue with home operating systems anymore. None of them really crash like they used to. - Flyngwalrus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Just because a person says something is good doesn't mean it is ... The New York Times liked the movie with that duck commercial guy and the woman with the big butt."
It's rare a person supports what they say with such clear evidence. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1...do we really need any more articles that claim a certain OS is the best?
Don't these types of articles tire anyone else other than me? - TheGooseyOne, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1and people from the Chicago Sun-Times know EVERYTHING
so lame I'm gonna report it, I'd ask you to too...and I'm pro apple - GerbilSoft, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"And I don't think m/any of the top supercomputers run linux, or windows... or mac OSX."
According to http://www.top500.org, 4 out of the 5 top supercomputer clusters run a version of Linux. (The other one runs IBM's AIX.)
Also, Virginia Tech has a Macintosh cluster that currently rates as #20 on the top 500 supercomputers list. - ek3s, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Reminds me of CNN and Sony.
You ppls make me /cry - rideaurocks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Well I, for one, vote Windows 3.1 the best OS on the planet!
In the immortal words of Penny Arcade, "Yeah, but it's a Mac." Owned - CaptSnuffy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"Wow, he mentions Linux once in his article. I wonder how many servers he runs on OS X? I wonder how many supercomputers use OS x? Oh, it's none?"
Going out of character for a second here...
Mac servers are great. Honestly OSX server is easy and it works flawlessly. I don't see how you could complain about them. True more servers run linux or windows server 2003 but it doesn't change the fact.
And I don't think m/any of the top supercomputers run linux, or windows... or mac OSX. While I know some do, the OS probably would have to be modified significantly to work with the hundreds (and occasionally thousands) of processors. I'm pretty much talking out of my ass here, as i think a lot of supercomputers are just networked clusters, but either way this guy wasn't comparing OSes by how well they could work in a supercomputer, or servers. - djtripp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Bugmenot2: It really isn't as effective with out the owl

Mac OS X 10.4
I state confidently that the Mac operating system is the easiest, the most reliable and overall the best OS on the planet.
When I get flaming e-mails stating otherwise, I shake my head sympathetically and note that this is what years of using Windows does to your soul. Unless the correspondent is a Linux user, in which case I grumblingly concede the reliability point but stand firm on everything else.
This latest edition is a tremendous leap forward. It's The Who playing live at Leeds, where Windows is your kid's middle-school class playing "Jingle Bells" on the recorder.
$129 in-store and at www. apple.com; Pre-installed on new Macs at $499 and up.

That said, sounds kinda like an ad to me... But, OS X is still a nice OS. - TeleCarlos, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0haha I'm a just turned mac user & i;m liking it so far... Don't need his article to find out. I was looking for a free AV for mac & just learned I don't need one! Thought it was funny!
I am also reading a book on OS X,, the blah blah manual or sum like it... Does that make me a pundit? - ej25goddess, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0BEoS > All
- neocitron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0well actually according to sharereports on Google, Apple is sitting at 7% of the computer market... 7.8324% to be exact.. this excludes the iPod
- tarun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"I shake my head sympathetically and note that this is what years of using Windows does to your soul."
Yeah, next thing they'll say we're going to hell by using Windows. Please! No-content piece of crap article. LAME--. - turgiddahlia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0No it isn't. What a stupid thing to say.
- thisnameisfake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Just because a person says something is good doesn't mean it is. Look at all the movie ads on TV. Every one says it's the best movie of the year and the New York Times likes it but, they're mostly crap. The New York Times liked the movie with that duck commercial guy and the woman with the big butt.
- dergachev, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0So, did this writer give apple "2 thumbs up"?
- JJR2527, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0[soap box]
Why waste everyone's time trying to start a flamewar. Do the research if the huy works for macworld clearly the statement is biased and even if it wasn't one person saying that doesn't make it true. The only way to decide if OS X is the best OS in the world is to use it, and even then it's only your opinion. My grandmother bought a Mac because it's "easy to use" but since no one else in my family has a mac we can't be a ton of help with it. It's all based on the resources you have available to you and your personal preference.
[/soap box] - vypergts, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I don't write for a newspaper and I think Logitech makes the best computer mice on the planet...
WHO CARES?!?! - ProAm500, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0looks like fire bait.....laming...
- anagami, on 07/02/2008, -0/+0sure it's the best OS in the planet, but they need to move from GUI to the next thing (tm) ;P
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I agree. It is.
- S4T4N, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0OSX IS THE BEST OS! I do admit, apple exagerrates some things. It is not as easy as it appears to be. It took me a good month to really understand my mac. PCs are much better for gaming though.....and spyware.

Wrong you are. FYI, in November 2003, The Virginia Tech Mac cluster was ranked as the #3 supercomputer and also ranked as the fastest cluster ever at the time.

http://www.macobserver.com/article/2003/11/17.1.shtml - bigjoe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0When I hear OS X is the most reliable and overall the best OS on the planet. I didn't even have to read the article to realize that this person is totally biased. I do like macs, but they crash all the time. I think XP is much more stable. Granted there are all the viruses and worms to deal with, but that comes with being the industry standard.
- ProAm500, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0like, i just dont understand how people digg this, i mean are the kids who digg this totally clueless or what....not cause its mac related, but its just such biased propaganda crap...i guess whats worse is that fudgebrown posted this crap, so hes no better than the writer......one of the many reasons digg can not be taken seriously....
- artofluke, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Wow, he mentions Linux once in his article. I wonder how many servers he runs on OS X? I wonder how many supercomputers use OS x? Oh, it's none?
Well sorry Andy Ihnatko, I didn't know you were the only ***** person in the world to use a computer. Forgive us for using computers in ways you've only dreamed of. - BugMeNot2, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1O RLY?
- hyperpasta, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0While he is biased, iSecondThat anyway.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Well thats just dandy for Andy. This is same same guy that likes Flickr and Netflix. Gimme a break.
But he is wrong. Oh so wrong. Don't be a sheep.
- digg - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0this is not late breaking news, and it's stating the obvious.
but if you disagree you are ignorant and poor! OS X is the best operating system without a doubt. too bad you can't play counter strike on it. - EmileVictor, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0I'm sure apple can hold their bloody own without the help of newspaper writers. =/

http://www.mediahug.com/ - leadx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0ohhh... That did it. After reading this article I'm giving up MS for good. I'm done.
Andy Ihnatko says I should be on Mac, I'm going to do it.
WTF, Mac sucks... I don't want to be with 4% of the population. They lost the OS war about 8 years ago.
