- cactus476, on 10/10/2007, -2/+24Speak for yourself. Around here, we have other GSM choices besides T-Moble and AT&T.
- borninda818, on 10/10/2007, -0/+17I'd give the title of "greediest pigs" to the fine folks at Verizon Wireless.
- markwilcox, on 10/10/2007, -1/+15AT&T is only in the US. There is life outside the US, okay?
- newbill123, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12I kept telling myself "I'll wait for the upgrade to version 2 before I buy an iPhone". But if I can get an iPhone untangled from AT&T, I'll consider that a significant enough bug fix to justify the purchase.
- macmissionary, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11In my area, admittedly rural, the only service we get is EDGE Wireless, which happens to be an AT&T partner network (I think AT&T actually owns like 60% or something). Even though EDGE is supposed to be a "partner", we don't have the iPhone. Guys like me are anxious for the hack.
- Vash265, on 10/10/2007, -4/+15Evidently at least 84 people(as of right now) do, and you obviously cared enough to comment. Don't like it, don't read it.
...
Let me revise that: Don't like it, just shut the ***** up about it then. - cleverboy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Not a let down at all. It's the best, most useful, well-designed single device I've ever owned. Let's wait 'til the end of the year (or at least 3-4 months), and see where Apple brings things. Of course, I had realistic expectations. Honestly, for a $600 device, I'm amazed by home many people I personall know who pick one up and are still considering it.
- GTanaka, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7I've had T-Mobile for a little over 2 years now, and with $5.99 unlimited data plan and a basic $39.99 a month for minutes, I have never had a problem with them. Besides, all you need to get the moneygrubbers to do what you need is yell and threaten. It shuts them up fast.
- firsttube, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7People digging it give a rat's ass... that's kinda how it works right? You put quite a bit of effort clicking through to get to this page, let alone leaving a comment. Almost seems as if YOU give a rat's ass. I'm just sayin is all.
- staticfish, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Not everyone in the World is American, idiot.
- camkerr, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5I could care less if CNN confirmed it. Engadget is good enough for me.
- smurf22, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5At and T doesn't have the least dropped calls, t mobile does. Only certain areas have crappy coverage but thats true for every company.
- brettschulte, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7Thecproblem is not the hack (that works) its wrapping it in an installer for Windows and Mac.
Sent from my T-Mobile iPhone - shaitanx, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6CNN is very worthy indeed..
- squall, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5I am with T-Mobile for over 6 years now. It would be very interesting to see someone on the T-Mobile network with iPhone.
- dinkola, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I guess all the other mobile phone makers can kiss your ass too - better bend over and stay there for a while
- brettschulte, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4it's working great - everything but visual voicemail an YouTube
- cgomez, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3iPhoneSimFree has updated their site with a FAQ that states it should be released within the next two or three days.
Here's hoping... - Kakcoo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3GIVE ME THE SOFTWARE ALREADY DAMNIT!!!1
I mean, would you please GIVE ME THE SOFTWARE ALREADY DAMNIT!!!1 - firsttube, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Hardware unlock? Turbo sim? I hope to get my hands on one soon myself, but I don't want to get a turbo sim card and all that jazz. Software-only for me please.
- dinkola, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Yeah, they added the faq over 3 days ago.
- specialK16, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Ass, this is great because I'll be able to have an iPhone outside the US.
- MacEnvy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Spoken like someone who's never been outside of the US.
- killerpopiller, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1just do it online, googledocs works great, could take bigger stylesheet but rest is good, and vnc is also a good solution
- wm666, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1That's true. seems no hope if you're not the press like Engadget and CNN
- cleverboy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Now 174. I don't care personally, but clearly people care.
- MacEnvy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1If by "certain areas" you mean nearly everywhere that isn't near a major city, then you're correct. Seriously - take a look at the T-Mobile coverage map. Their coverage footprint is pretty similar to that of EVDO, which is sad.
- rebotfc, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1"keep your friends close and your enemies closer"
you sad sad man... - hiro, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Right. You obviously have never been to the UK. If I'm near enough to a WiFi access point then I'm either at home or work, and either way I'd use my laptop if I wanted to use the net.
So yes, 3G is crucial here, for email and web browsing, but the cost is too much to use online applications for everything. Get it?
I'm not going back to using a phone with GPRS only just so I can have a pretty phone that's aimed at teenagers - spudmanster, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1umm nope, in many cases you can buy an unlocked phone and use it on any network. Just most people choose to get new phones the cheaper way by signing a year long contract. However, Apple is forcing you to use a specific provider. You cant by their phone freely even if you desired. Many things there in the US are different, but, in many parts of the world their are other options.
- kipmartin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Verizon has come a long way. i fought with ATT/BellSouth for a week about data service and finally canceled them and went with my cell carrier, Verizon. my wife has an ATT cell phone i constantly dial out when she cant. its like, "Her, dear, let me call them." and yep, i consistently get the call through. Verizon bashing was hip in 2004, but its the only way to go for price now (because everyone else is on Verizon and in-network calls are free) and they have superior customer service. as ATT to credit you for a mistake on your bill like a text message from some spammer. good luck! my wife can switch over end of September and i will likely never pay more than my flat $59 per month fee ever again. unless i get some gabby friend on ATT or the oh-so-90s TMobile network.
- Burritoking924, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Stop spamming your *****.
- blacknred0, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0i agree, and then mobile companies will be looking for more profit. and anyways that is all they want
- rimantas, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13G is crucial, but to expensive? There's wi-fi, you know...
- firsttube, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1I believe that's been the case since thursday or friday.
- antoniojvr, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Yea, but it sucks and is full of pissants,
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0hey did you get the software from brettschulte? if you did please let me know!!! email me the installer :) i got windows and mac computers.. email : thedude20006@yahoo.com
thanks! - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Hey man i got an iphone and i got tmobile :) i was wondering if you would be kind and email me the installer to do the sim unlock for the iphone! it would be greatly appreciated!! :) heres my email thedude20006@yahoo.com
thanks in advance! - MetalGearRod, on 10/23/2007, -0/+0It's quite unfortunate really...i grew up learning about the great hobbyist and enthusiast who revolutionized the IT industry simply by creating things they enjoyed creating and allowing the masses access to it...but i guess that's all it is now...an industry! It's no longer enough to create a great product and change how the world works...the focus now is financial gain, even if that means locking the iPhone to a single network! Maybe good things come to those who wait! Well Apple, here's to rest of the world waiting...oh and remember, though good things come to those who wait, we won't wait too late...
- ffleming, on 10/10/2007, -3/+2"It's the best, most useful, well-designed single device I've ever owned." LOL
- spudmanster, on 10/10/2007, -3/+2Apple can kiss my ass if they think I am going to buy any of their products when they remove the consumers choice of providers.
- hiro, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1No, bandwidth even at 3G is too expensive in the UK and for business use MS software is a must. I use a Macbook at home for browsing and suchlike but for serious use Apple just doesn't cut it yet
- postaldave, on 10/10/2007, -5/+2really? name then.
- euphemizeme, on 10/10/2007, -11/+7It's called wagging the dog. Fanboys know the 1gen iPhone was a letdown, so they are looking for ways to mitigate its shortcomings.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -5/+1I'm tired of all this talk about unlocked iphones, they should just make it free to everyone. Otherwise i don't care to much about it
- digitalarcanum, on 10/10/2007, -5/+1Since this ***** is iPhone related, it was bound to hit front page sooner or later. I know what responses I'll get to this comment "LULZ YHOU CUD LIEK BLOK TEH APPLE NEWZ LOLOL APPLE ***** TROLL" but some of us like hearing about apple news that isn't this ***** phone. You know, "keep your friends close and your enemies closer" kinda thing. As much as I hate to admit, apple does some innovative stuff and also makes stupid blunders I wouldn't mind hearing about either. So shut the ***** up about blocking the apple section and quit digging up these ***** useless iphone stories.
- everfresh59, on 10/10/2007, -6/+1It's amazing how many peope are willing to void their warranties on a 1st gen product thats $500. I know it's awesome to have unlocked, but are we all so ignorant to actually believe Apple won't fix this? Software update alone will completely fix this, and then what...
- hiro, on 10/10/2007, -6/+1Unlocking for other networks is a step forward, but without the ability to create and edit MS Office compatible files, and more crucially 3G, there will be no great rush to buy one here in the UK when it's launched. It's just not smart enough to be a decent smartphone, we'll see what happens with next yrs version
