- wisedude, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14Yeah, the random shut down issue is RAMPANT. I know four people who have it.... Apple really needs to suck it up and whip out a recall
- TechPedia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I think at this point it is clear that rev A Macbooks have issues. Perhaps Mr. Mays notoriety will be an impetus for Apple to make a smart move and act.
- emorphien, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Well, I don't think they suck but they aren't gods gift to computing like so many diggers would have you believe.
- monkeybutler, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Shutdowns will probably be addressed but the heat may be due to the design. the 17" doesnt suffer the same heat issues. But yeah, it would be nice if more people (especially people with notoriety) would make a stink so Apple reacts quicker. But as it is then most people just side with Apple and blame the consumer.
- muleking, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I have been accused of trolling, but my macbook is garbage. In the 3 months i've owned it its been broken and/or in repair for more than a month a this point. They refuse to replace it, it is currently on hold for repair awaiting a part. I am days from ditching it, buying a lenovo and taking apple to my local small claims court.
They're customer rep line has like a 90 minute wait to talk to a human. The repuatition for good customer service is a myth. The repair tech have proven themselves incompetent, and the customer care people have one goal, not sending me a replacement. - thashiz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"Powerbrick" is a common term for the box-shaped part of a power adapter.
- Wolfghost, on 10/12/2007, -6/+9Ok, the guy has problems with his Mac. Some hardware, some software. I won't dispute the problems, but then I saw his statement...
"I just want someone from Apple to come over..."
Primadona. I'm not an Apple fan, but damn man - call Apple on the phone, go to Apple's web site. Stop whining and get the job done like the rest of us. - collywolly, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2funny, that Apples marketing led him to believe that then isn't it.....
Especially as Apple market themselves as computers that you don't need to be a genius to use. - serpicolugnut, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This might explain why Brian May was such a hard a$$ when he was on Americal Idol earlier this year - he was probably frustrated by all his Macbook Pro issues. :-)
Seriously, I got my MBP on 3/31/06, and it's in for its second repair (you may recall the first one almost caused me not to have in back in time for WWDC). A couple of weeks after the first repair, the LCD would start to go haywire when I was plugged in to an ACD 20" monitor. It's been in the shop for nearly a month now, waiting on a new motherboard. Second motherboard in 2 months.
These 15" machines clearly have QA issues. My friend has the 17" MBP, and he has had zero issues. My previous machine was a 1.5ghz G4 17", and it had zero issues as well. - rick2k, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Jeeeeeeeeese
He is having a bad experience and his colors aren't working and its hot..and your all like
IM FINE LOL MY MACBOOK ROCKS
? Good for you.. he isn't having the same experience thats why he wrote it.
No one cares if your Macbook is fine and calling him a dick for his problems is just lame. - monkeybutler, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"just like the rest of us"? If some average dope has the exact same problems then at the most he'll put it on his blog and maybe his grandma will read it. If someone with any celebrity has the problem then it gets public attention.
It sucks for us "normal" people but its in apples best interest to make sure their bigger name customers are taken care of. So don't pretend if you had the chance to get instant service you'd still wait on hold for 3 hours with some level 1 script-reading tech support rep. - P155, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"No one cares if your Macbook is fine and calling him a dick for his problems is just lame."
Welcome to the attitude of the MAC user. Must be the one button mouse or something.... - MikeCerm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Saying that Apple is better than Queen is like saying Microsoft is better than The Who. Not only does it not many any sense, it's also just not true.
The music of Queen has been heard by probably every person in the world. Apple does not have that kind of market share. - alanp, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Think there is some sort of recall for that particular fault, something to do with a cable shorting on a heatsink or something... (i.e. when it heats up it expands and melts/ shorts a cable ZAP shutdown !)
- cadavreexquis, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Ah, Brian. The whiniest of the Queen boys. I wish Freddie was still around to bitch slap him.
- MikeCerm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Wow, you don't know who Brian May is, AND you called him a *****... You must be an idiot, or 10 years old, or some combination of the two. Regardless, you are now blocked.
He F*ing wrote "We Will Rock You"!!! Even if that's his only claim to fame, which it isn't by a long-shot, it's enough. - monkeybutler, on 10/12/2007, -8/+9Now the comment battle begins. Its the "excuse-makers" vs the "slam on him personally for questioning apple" folks. Oh I can't wait...
- djork, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3The battery is bigger...? Uh...?
The MacBook Pro is at fault for not keeping his old system's custom folder backgrounds? Does he think it's just magical or something? - xaxxon, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4From the article:
"The faster chip at present really gives NO discernible increase in processing speed ...even in copying large numbers of files, or processing the large images I am used to .... not impressive."
Not exactly a computer genius. It should say "The processor doesn't make the computer any faster.. even for things that have nothing to do with the processor." Obviously copying large files is bottlenecked completely by the hard drive. If his images aren't processing any faster, then he is either using a PPC binary (photoshop isn't universal yet) and running emulated, or he doesn't have enough RAM to load the images and is, again, hard-drive bottlenecked. - collywolly, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2yet I bet you digg up every shiity article that says how great Macs are.....
- MikeCerm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Freddie Mercury was gay, and he still got more ladies than you or anyone else you'll ever know.
- Quix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Ah, there's P155 yet again, still terribly confused about his own sexuality and venting that confusion via homophobic rants...
- MikeCerm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1As amazing as he was, there was a lot more to Queen than Freddie Mercury. Each member contributed nearly equally to Queen's unique sound, each member of the band wrote songs, and each had their share of the hit singles.
There is no ego among the remaining members of Queen. That they have carried on with the Queen name (to the extent they have) has been to pay tribute to both Freddie and the fans that love the songs. Paul Rodgers played the part of Freddie (admirably, too) on their recent tour, but it's not like they'd ever replace Freddie, and they know that. - alanp, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Ohh.. I'm sure there's a lot of owner will jump on your comment....
I'm not sure what you are talking about re the PSU, but my G4 one is a small square with fold out tabs for the cord.. maybe you are talking about the old G3 yo yo one ?
There's a few too many of these lemons around for my liking. I really was gonna buy one to replace my 12" but I'll hold on. The 13.3" is heavier & bigger than my 12", not to mention HOTTER (and yes I've compared it to two other macbook 13.3s...) - luckyjonny, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1And I've got news for you, alanp. The apostrophe.
- jnosanov, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Title should say MacBook PRO, not MacBook.
- MikeCerm, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1@ WiseWeasel
I can't believe your constant reference to Brian May as "this guy," as if he's JUST some random guy. He's a musical genius, and also very tech-savy for a musician from the '70s. - folletto, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Yet another single case of an issue? Why is it on the front page? If we should have a Digg front page for every single notebook with some issue for someone, Digg will be submerged.
And... "click the soapbox link"? Linking the home page?
...
This seems like a promotion for the website and nothing more.
Great work. Youd did it on the front page using the YAAM ("Yet Another Apple Mistake") meme. - folletto, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1No, it's the same crap.
I mean: i could blog about anything as much as I like it, but it's plain lame that either pro-Apple or con-Apple, or like pro-MS or con-MS will get on the front page, every time, for every lame post.
And, I repeat: lame post and simply promotion for the website. Nothing more. - ssWhiplash, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I digg Brian May.... but you know what? He can call Apple Customer Support like the rest of us..... or have a roadie do it. I wonder what my chances of getting a house call from Steve Jobs himself are if I just bitch a little bit on my blog??
- greymaxcat, on 10/12/2007, -12/+11Apple Sucks...
If you agree that Apple Sucks, Digg this down! - ShiverMeBoner, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2If you actually dugg greymaxcat up then he just tricked you.
- WiseWeasel, on 10/12/2007, -6/+4Seems this guy got a lemon. I can't reproduce any of the issues he mentions on my MacBook Pro (2GHz, rev. A, ordered the day after they were announced). I'm sure he'd get a replacement if he called Apple about it... As for the random shutdown issue mentioned by wisedude, that only affects the MacBook, not the MacBook Pro, and Apple will fix that if you tell them...
My MBP is really the nicest computer I've ever used; quiet, not too hot (at least compared to the G4 Powerbooks I used before), perfect design and experience. The Battery isn't much larger than the previous ones from Powerbooks, just thinner and broader. The power supply takes up about as much room in my laptop bag as the old Powerbook one due to its square shape instead of bulging round, and it's easier to wrap the cord around it. I absolutely love the new magnetic power cord, and wouldn't switch back to the old one for anything in the world. Overall, they reduced the weight and made it thinner. Other than the obvious issues this guy is having with his MBP, it seems he's trying to find something to complain about. - threepio, on 10/12/2007, -6/+4I had an iBook G4 1ghz.
I have a Macbook 2ghz.
The macbook is faster, easier to carry (it's broader and thinner) and the power supply is the same size.
I get comparable battery life (usually 5+ hours of note taking). So frankly, Brian, suck it up. Another one bites the dust indeed. - paragonconcept, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2im going to make this my default comment for every lame whiney thread about the new macbook / pros -
I have a 2.16ghz 17' MacBook Pro - and i have had 0 problems with it....... and im sure 98% of the other owners out there would have the same...
digg needs to stop running these damn articles, they're old, they're troll bait, they're beating a dead horse..... VOTE = Ok, This is Lame - Foxphoto, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1i am on my 4th apple laptop (since 98). I have yet to buy or download one Queen song.
Apple > Queen - Nananine, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0And I'm thoroughly dissapointed in Brian May for continuing Queen in various capacities after Freddie Mercury's demise. But I can't think of any witty variation of "powerbrick" to attribute to "Queen."
- P155, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3Queen were a bunch of homosexuals, not surprising that one of their members would use a MAC
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -9/+4Who the hell is this *****, and why do we care what he says?
- dmoney06, on 10/12/2007, -15/+10He obviously knows nothing about computers...
"My old model (G4) was intelligent enough to deal decently with the battery running down. It gave me a warning ... then, when the power was low enough it closed itslef down to a sleeping position and when the charger was inserted it sprang back to life. The new one is completely unhelpful. Usually I get no warning of the low battery...it just suddenly DIES."
The operating system is still the same, this is not a problem with the computer.
"The faster chip at present really gives NO discernible increase in processing speed ...even in copying large numbers of files, or processing the large images I am used to .... not impressive."
Ummmm, somebody's brain is maybe not functioning too well after all those drugs back in the day (and now). The chip is WAY faster, if you can't tell the difference you've done a few too many drugs and should stop complaining.
Ok, hes got me on the heat issue, that is a problem.
Other than the heat, he has no real issue with it...he doesn't have the random shutdown syndrome or anything, so stop complaining and get a laptop cooler if you feel the need. - mywhitenoise, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1Powerbrick? Funny, that's the first time I've heard someone call a MacBook heavy, or big. What an idiot.
- mywhitenoise, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2i digged up.
and i'm willing to bet you haven't spent more than 5 minutes on a Mac.
