- the_snitch, on 10/12/2007, -4/+35Yes, blue screen does still exist in XP, its just usually a hardware or driver problem that causes it, not the OS.
- Yashar, on 10/12/2007, -2/+32As a prank you should take it to a apple repair center and I bet their reactions would be priceless.
- cazabam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19Is it just me, or is "My kernel panic screen is better than yours" a bit of a losing game for both sides?
- insomniac8400, on 10/12/2007, -12/+28What a fitting tribute to the now extinct windows bsod. I hope apple users have fun with it.
- dmoney06, on 10/12/2007, -4/+19Why the hell would you ever, ever want to do this?
- Hydraulix, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12God, seeing that panic screen for 10.0-10.1 brings back nightmares. I'm still amazed on how far and fast OS X has advanced.
- maximinus, on 10/12/2007, -17/+26It's not extinct; Microsoft just turn it off by default, opting instead for an instant restart without warning, making you think that you have power supply or other major hardware issues... even though that probably isn't (but may be) the case.
- laelfrog, on 10/12/2007, -15/+23Rare and extinct are two different things
- graigchq, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10BSOD is most definitely not extinct!!
had one just yesterday, on new hardware on a brand new install of XP home. - drunkenoaf, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10@yashar

is an *evil* widget that will get Apple sore staff and engineers scratching their heads... - r2builder, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8"As a prank you should take it to a apple repair center and I bet their reactions would be priceless."
-They would probably just think it was something to do with BootCamp, and pass off the error as Microsoft's fault.
Would be really funny to see though, a hidden camera segment or something.
If I had a non-intel mac, and lived close to a Mac store (8 hours away on bus) then I'd strongly consider shooting a film. - HanSolo69, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9my XP machine has been blue screening a lot lately because it doesn't like the wi-fi card i am forced to use for the time being and disagrees with the driver.
- phlll, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6All OSes crash sometimes. Get over it.
- mywhitenoise, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8This is pointless.
- keef06, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I thought this was going to be another article on boot camp and how Macs are so much better than Windows and how Macs are cheaper, more reliable, more useful, better designed, more value for money and how its got better software than Windows. Then typically the Linux user comes along and makes a comment about the fact that Linux is better in some way.
Bury this comment it will just get more views that way :D. However digg this comment if you are sick of tech articles always ending in the Windows is better than Macs and vice versa.
This comment seems somewhat out of place because of the early timing.
Also I've only seen a BSOD on one of eight Windows XP computers in my household and only twice because of a faulty sound card that needs replacing. - evilpig, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8Who would WANT to have a bsod?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8Well I've never seen Dick Cheney either, but I'd love to skin him!
- mobilehavoc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Haven't seen a BSOD in XP since the day I got it (4? years ago I think). As annoying as it can be like people said nowadays it's usually the result of a hardware driver or something specific to what you did not something wrong with apps/software or OS.
I guess it's the price you pay to have support for such a vast amount of hardware/peripherals - satansbanjo, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9THANK you. I actually think the kernel panic screen looks pretty awesome, whereas the blue screen of death looks like it was designed to make people think it's their fault their machine's crashed
- jellygraph, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3this seems like a fairly pointless exercise tho
- cmiller1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Classic Mac OS never crashed if you knew how to handle extension conflicts, much easier than the registry hacking needed to keep a modern windows computer secure and clean. And you guys always say Windows works just fine if you know what you're doing :P
- NeoRicen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Did you even read the article iamexcite?? It's not saying Macs get the Blue Screen its saying how you can give it one. Also macs DO crash, mine has numerous times, perhaps due to heat but it hasn't happened since I thought to check.
- compguy11, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5I think this title is misleading..when I read it..I thought somebody had gotten blue screen on a mac..and im like wtf...
Why the hell would I ever want my Mac to look anything like a PC... - theron1n, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4theMurdocVolta, actually yes it is. I've run win98 for years, and am still running it on one machine, without ever encountering a BSOD. The main issue is the sensitivity to hardware problems. Better hardware = fewer problems. The major problem in win98 is the gimungous memory leak. =x
- directive0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is exactly the kind of article I'd expect from a post-windows-fanboy like James.
- keef06, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1http://video.google.co.uk/videoplay?docid=4265113776918509742&q=intel+parody
- Kerr, on 10/12/2007, -12/+13Even if I did this, what would be the point? Its not like I would ever see it.
- tdowling, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Classic Mac OS never crashed if you knew how to handle extension conflicts"
Unless you had to use DAVE for networking. I'd swear sometimes that its own extensions conflicted with *themselves* - MatB, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Am I the only one who got the joke? It's supposed to be funny and ironic, guys!
- iamexcite, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5Reported as inaccurate. Everyone knows that macs never crash. ;)
(Victim of the "sad mac" and "bomb" on an old Mac as a kid. Back then it was an empty dialog box with a bomb and a textless button.) - keef06, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1A Windows XP BSOD screensaver for Windows :D

This is another good one:
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Desktop-Enhancements/Screensavers/The-other-BSOD-screensaver.shtml - kLacK, on 10/12/2007, -7/+7Never seen the panic screen before... so I wont be wasting my time skinning it.
- Kelmon, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5@diggywiggit
Cheers for the recommendation. I bought a Mac. Job done, I think. - Blackflip, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I knew this from the beginning, check out the Video that i made (wait untill the end)
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-6415770050655464328&q=intel+ad+reloaded
cheers - joeblowurho, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Are macbooks suppose to crash a lot? i just bought one and its had to restart twice in the last 4 days. I had my XP pc for 3 years and only had to restart like once every 3-4 months. Is this normal or is there something wrong with my computer?
- KingZog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Everything works fine if you know what you're doing. E.g. if you add hardware/software and it becomes unstable, remove it again.
Except maybe WinMe, that always seemed unstable out of the box, on completely generic PC with a bunch of Office appications. - cmiller1, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Why are you digging him down? It seems to me like he just means using parallels you can get a BSOD without doing the hack mentioned in the article.
- valkyries, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3Wow now people are going crazy that MACs can have or can be forced to have a "bsod"
http://netblues.org/users/valkyries/theyallsuck5qm.jpg - miker71, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1con:con
Ah, such sweet good old days ... - Ninjab3ar, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1wow, u guys r idiots, he prob triggered that screen by blocking the fans of his MacBook and letting it overheat.
srry guys, he triggered it w/ his own stupidity, it was not a problem with OS X. - neosublime, on 10/12/2007, -14/+3I've seen BSOD's on Macs every since the release of BootCamp :)
- oGMo, on 10/12/2007, -22/+7"Anyone who's saying Windows still has bsod should get a job and buy new hardware."
...and then put Linux on it. Unless it came with OSX. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -26/+11Anyone who's saying Windows still has bsod should get a job and buy new hardware.
- theMurdocVolta, on 10/12/2007, -23/+4Hah, not if your a 98 user its not, or are having problems with 2000/ME/XP.
