- davidlow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13The meaning of the term "syncing" or "synchronizing" is changing. Not too long ago, "syncing" two data sets was by definition bi-directional. One directional operations were called backups, copies, or migration operations.
Now I see some apps advertise syncing functions which turn out to be uni-directional. Too bad. Syncing was a useful term.
In any case, I really like the idea of a product that performs a true sync of data between iCal & Gcal. I'd wait in line for that. - zalewis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9hmm. isn't leopard shipping with a new ical api that supports bidirectional syncing?
either way, this is still a fantastic idea... at least, until google changes their api to match the new ics standard... - acrowe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7This would allow mac users to easily do this...
ie.
Edit on Google, sync to iCal, sync to Palm
Edit on palm, sync to iCal, sync to Google
Edit on iCal, sync to palm, sync to Google - phonetik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6It's about GD time, my Gcal has been dormant because I want to be able to use iCal at home and Gcal at work (without having separate calenders) . I can't wait for the beta.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Now I (a PC user :( ) know exactly how Mac users feel when left out in the cold.
- Scruffydan, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8I would love to have something like this for windows, and outlook/Thunderbird.
- bleonard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Sweeeeeet! I wish the sync settings were accessible from within iCal instead of System Prefs but I'll take what I can get.
- ocellnuri, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Finally, my Palm Calendar from my Treo can get synced up with my Google Calendar. This makes all of the automatic event creation features in Gmail useful for people who use a PDA that syncs with iCal.
- benlundquist, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Its about bidirectional syncing.
- isdereks, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Dugg. But already posted with the demo on the front page yesterday.

The only reason I keep MS Outlook around is for the ease of synching with my Palm PDA. When one of these guys develops a plug-in extension to easily allow synching with Palms, I'll be first in line to drop Outlook entirely.
- mrstoney, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I totally agree. I would love to see a linux smart phone that could synch with google calendar and thunderbird / sunbird. Plus, let's not forget CONTACTS.
- pascalX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2GCALDaemon is an open source application that lets you do a two-way synchronization between Google Calendar and your iCal-compatible calendar program (e.g. Rainlender or Thunderbird):
http://gcaldaemon.sourceforge.net - ejectMedia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I can't wait until this is out for a public download, and I will gladly purchase 3 copies for my small business. it's a great way to keep up with what my co-workers are doing and it would also be great to keep a general business calendar that we can all edit.
- mccarron, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I just discovered this software today, and love the idea. I'll gladly pay for this great useful software, can't wait to check it out in Beta!
- JuyLe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hope it'll work well, I was waiting for that since a while, both software (online & offline) are great. Hope there could be the same for AddressBook.
- ShoGinn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1We'll see how things turn out with updates since Google Calendar is always updating something :)
Definitely going to keep updated on this software! - drlha, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Its only one directional with iCal, i.e. you can subscribe to Google Calendars in iCal but not modify them from iCal.
- skellener, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This seems really cool!
- mattyohe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This will probably be cool for a couple months until the new iCal is released with Leopard that supports CalDav which Google will probably also support soon.
Sigh. - Rousterfar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is a great idea. I love Google Calendar and this would be super useful.
- basye, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Here are the latest screenshots just posted this morning:

- brickbat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Will Sunbird support CalDav? Also, Google calendar is useless without tasks.
- m00gg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is great, and it sure is about time. I actually can't believe Google or Apple don't have something yet... Their beta starts next Wednesday and is only open to 100. I hope the beta program includes an interactive set of folks that can help get kinks worked out quickly so that the software can be released to a wider range of customers.
(*Then when this is a HUGE success, Google will flash the cash...) - dylanrjones, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Throw in Sunbird, and I'm in too
- macewan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1wonderful software - why in the world did it take so long for someone to do this?
:) - thinkitcreative, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm really looking forward to trying out this new app. It's exactly what many of us have been waiting and wishing for.
- Robbi, on 10/09/2008, -0/+0The instalation process is sooo complicated!
- Rayza, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I'd like this kind of functionality between Google calendar and Rainlender.. It can post to Google, but not the other way around..
- dpj1, on 11/15/2007, -0/+0lolz
- oedenfield, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1so i guess the news is that iCal is still missing features that have been in a 0.3 product for maybe a year now? Private .ics address provided by Google? It's not really syncing in the case of sunbird because sunbird would allow you to directly edit your Google Calendar.
- jimmmmmm, on 12/18/2007, -0/+0In my experience, this software is a loser. I installed it on my 1.8 GHz G5 with 2Mb of RAM. It took more than an hour to sync initially. After that, it just ground to a halt. It also slowed my entire system down dramatically. I uninstalled it after a couple of days, in frustration. Too bad!
- jsuther, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Thunderbird/Sunbird to plam is what I'm waiting for even if an ical format as a middle man
- ChrisHam, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1This has been needed for a long time. Now the question is who is going to make the first phone to sync with Gmail and Calendar? Apple iPhone I'm looking at you...
- oedenfield, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1inst this possible with the private ical url that google supplies? I've been doing something like this with Sunbird for months now.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+3I'll take some Windows and Thunderbird, please? Thank you.
