- unloud, on 10/11/2007, -5/+224Or go to "History>Recently Closed Tabs"
By the way, why is this in the Apple section? - hfactor, on 10/11/2007, -9/+58Up next from Digg´s tech wizards: How-to on writing bold text in MS Word... *yawn*
- RCcola159, on 10/11/2007, -16/+65That's just great. Do you want a cookie?
- gnazzah, on 10/11/2007, -7/+45Opera users: Ctrl-Z
- Mooco, on 10/11/2007, -3/+41Why bother RTFA if the whole description and topic is right there? Will I get banned by digg for not clicking? (Oh Noes!)
- themoose, on 10/11/2007, -3/+38Opera, click the trash can top right and it'll display a history of about 50 last opened tabs. Also Ctrl-Z to open the last opened.
- phezz, on 10/11/2007, -8/+40In other breaking news some idiot just RTFM
- heavyd14, on 10/11/2007, -0/+30You can also right click on the tab bar and chose undo closed tab
- qpid, on 10/11/2007, -7/+33I totally love you
- stizz, on 10/11/2007, -5/+29Can close tabs by middle clicking tab, but can't seem to be able to re-open closed tabs by middle clicking the tab bar.
I dugg you up anyway, since you taught me something I didn't know. - TieDNKnotZ, on 10/11/2007, -9/+33I am amazed at how many don't know about the middle click option in Firefox to open a new tab, close a tab, or reopen the last closed tab. Half of my surfing is done with the middle mouse button!
- mrASSMAN, on 10/11/2007, -1/+20Or use the tab-mix-plus extension for firefox. It lets you put a button in the toolbar area that you can click to bring back any recently closed tabs.. can't live without it.
- inhalent, on 10/11/2007, -12/+30Simple Ctrl + Z for us Opera users, found that out just out of boredom and curiousity
- Daniel15, on 10/11/2007, -4/+21Agreed - Opera is awesome, I've been using it for years!
- aznwild0, on 10/11/2007, -7/+24I think it's good to let Firefox users know where all their browser's features came from.
Opera- MDI(more powerful version of tabbed browsing): 1994, Page Zoom: 1996, automatic session saving: 1996, address bar search: 1998, pop-up blocking: 2000
Then came Phoenix 0.1: 2002
If you're using Firefox and want to use a browser as big an improvement from IE to Firefox from what you're using now, www.opera.com because it is still years ahead. - ChromaVita, on 10/11/2007, -6/+22No, don't download that plug in. This download is way better

- DeucesWild, on 10/11/2007, -25/+37Opera has had this for a long time. Either you just go hit the undo button or hit ctrl+z.
- Utopian, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10Middle clicking the empty Tab Bar area doesn't work for me. I'm guessing the people it works for have an extension installed that enables it.
- TonyCubed, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9To be honest, I completely agree with you, but the problem with Opera back then was all the advertisement crap all over the browser which people didn't want. Now that they have removed that, it's slowly climbing up hill with Firefox against IE.
The reason Firefox is so great is because it's open source. And any differences between browsers can be made up through the extensions. - Rodman930, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10"And on another topic again, wouldn't Opera's Ctrl+Z shortcut conflict with forms or other undo operations?"
Not if you click outside the form. And wouldn't firefox's Ctrl+Shift+t take more than one hand to use (practically)? - nathanwalker, on 10/11/2007, -3/+12Im on a laptop too. My middle click is clicking with both buttons at the same time. Try it.
- darkhero, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8You can also go to History -> Recently Closed Tabs -> List of last 10 Closed Taps. I personally hate using both my hands when don't have to.
- Mr_Lyle, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8You can also right click any tab and just choose Undo Close Tab. This extention is great for laptops but seems pretty useless for desktops. If you're browsing the web, chances are you're using a mouse to navigate. Letting go of the mouse and reaching for a keyboard to enter a shortcut command would just slow you down more.
- themastersb, on 10/11/2007, -12/+17Yeah. I just go to History and Recently Closed tabs as well
- poedguy, on 10/11/2007, -3/+8I already buried your stupid hemp thing as spam, you should really stop posting it everywhere.
- John0877, on 10/11/2007, -18/+22also easier in opera since CTRL + Z is the common Undo button in all windows programs.
mentioning Opera really doesnt have much to do with it i guess but it just annoys the Firefox fnaboys when they hear a competing browser has had a feature for a while that is now either new to firefox or newly discovered in firefox and it is funny to see the fanboys comments :-) - FyberOptic, on 10/11/2007, -4/+8This story is like posting keyboard shortcuts for Microsoft Word that most of the users already know. The only difference is that "Firefox" is in the title, which makes it immediately get dugg. So stupid.
Not to mention, this was just another feature stolen from Opera, btw, as has already been mentioned here. But if you're fanboy enough to digg this story, you're not gonna ever get over the falsehoods spread about Firefox to consider the fact that another browser might actually be safer/faster/lighter/etc etc. - jsams81, on 06/26/2009, -2/+6the digg community is apparently rife with n00bs.
if this is breaking news to you, you might also want to check out 'mouse gestures'. theyre pretty handy. - bigfkncee, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6@ blahtastic
if you go into options ,you can make the tab bar stay there even when you don't have more than 1 tab open - insovietrussia, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Particularily when that hand is being used for social activities.
- FyberOptic, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5@ MonkeyFarts
Plenty of people care that Firefox constantly steals from Opera. Kind of like when Firefox fanboys got their panties in a wad and said IE stole tabs from them. They just happened to forget that Opera was using tabs (and true tabs, not a slapped-on patch job like Firefox got) back when Firefox's grandfather was still in struggling for marketshare (Netscape). What's worse is that they steal the features, never make them as good, and just bloat their "fastest and safest browser" down even more.
Also, anyone who doesn't know basic features of their browser should RTFM instead of relying on Digg stories to do it for them. That's just plain laziness. But then again, I suppose that's a typical Firefox user. - tommycai, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3whats a tab?
- operand, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Keyboard > mouse
- Terr01, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3The important philosophical mechanic here is:
Opera Already Did It.

- ckSubs, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5Mouse gestures, people. They're the future. Stop using your antique keyboard shortcuts.
Right Click > Down > Right = close tab
Right Click > Down > Left = Undo Close tab. - KyleGoetz, on 10/11/2007, -10/+13In Opera it is Ctrl-Z. You know, the typical shortcut for "undo"? I have FF on my system, but the keyboard shortcuts could stand to be reorganized a bit.
- Niz1, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3yep all this time my solution has been the undo close tab, im used to right clicking and undo close tabing :)
- Kazbaeden, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2The shortcut I use is ctrl+alt+z which does the same thing and doesn't conflit
- underthelinux, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I thought everyone knew thesee things becuase of a recently dugg article. BUT JUST IN CASE!!!
Enjoy.
http://digg.com/linux_unix/Did_you_know_these_basic_Firefox_Tips - joeycerone, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2anyway to do this in safari?
- bmc152006, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2its funny how opera has had this feature for years and firefox users are treating it like its revolutionary.
- vornan19, on 10/17/2007, -0/+2Middle clicking to close a tab does not work under Linux. Why?
- changyang1230, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2The "middle clicking on a tab bar" trick only works if you have Tab Mix Plus installed. It's a great extension, by the way.
- dancraggs, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3860-odd diggs? What? Did nobody notice 'Undo Close Tab' when right-clicking a tab, or accidentally hold down Shift when making a new tab? Oh dear...
- XZanatos, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2"empty" tab bar?? What, pray tell is that?
10 tabs open is a slow web-browsing session for me. - Btrash, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I am in the same boat with you for the middle click on empty space to get back a tab, it probably is tabmixplus as you mentioned.
- ReRunx5, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2When in the address or search bar press Alt+Enter to open a new tab.
