- bjs3171, on 01/10/2008, -1/+26so does this mean the prices will be cheaper than at the apple store? otherwise they wouldn't really be living up to their name, would they?
- gdog05, on 01/10/2008, -0/+24I fixed your post....
"As of now, Geek Squad isn't prepared to fix Apple stuff."
As of now, Geek Squad isn't prepared to fix stuff. That's better. - thedragon4453, on 01/10/2008, -7/+28Why the hell would you want to buy an Apple from BestBuy? So you can get raped when you have an issue with it?
- MacParrot, on 01/10/2008, -0/+11I think you're selling yourself short. I'm sure you're as big a douchebag as the best of them.
- BoathouseMac, on 01/10/2008, -0/+11Don't do it, Apple! I personally watched a Best Buy clerk talk a customer out of buying an iPod last month. She was so confused, in fact, she wandered away without buying any music player. Headline: Worst Sell at Best Buy. Heard later that the clerks were given incentives to sell other, non-Apple products. And that Apple does not offer these incentives. If Apple intends to noodle for customers at Best Buy, it best learn how to play the game.
- roberto_deneero, on 01/10/2008, -3/+13Does every Apple story have to contain comments from idiots like you on why it's on the front page?
- asaturn, on 01/10/2008, -0/+10actually, when I worked at bestbuy, one of the idiot PC salesguys sold the bestbuy service plan *AND* applecare to some poor old woman.
- jamiroquai, on 01/10/2008, -0/+9Spoken by someone who's apparently never purchased an extended warranty from BB.
- kevinmotel, on 01/10/2008, -0/+8don't post links in comments unless it is relevent
- MacParrot, on 01/10/2008, -0/+7I thought the ***** lottery was about going to a Nightclub just before closing time.
- inactive, on 01/10/2008, -1/+8not really, apple, AT&T, best buy all friends together happy to take your money.
- hit9ent, on 01/10/2008, -9/+15oh please! can i buy a crappy warranty with that too!
- asaturn, on 01/10/2008, -1/+6maybe BestBuy will follow.
- plizard, on 01/10/2008, -1/+6after making the mistake of buying an ipod from them and getting their horrible psp plan - i'll just stick to ordering from apple.com
- jamiroquai, on 01/10/2008, -1/+6And I fixed your post:
"As of the very first day of Geek Squad rollout, Geek Squad isn't prepared to fix stuff." - plizard, on 01/10/2008, -1/+6well you must have good odds at winning the powerball also
- thcobbs, on 01/10/2008, -2/+7www.youreadouche.com
- MacParrot, on 01/10/2008, -0/+4I agree with your statement except for the first sentence. Even as a self-confessed Apple/Mac user (obviously), there isn't anything you can do on a Mac that can't also be done on A WinPC. For some functions you need different software, but you can edit video or photos or make easy webpages (the list goes on and on) just as well on a WInPC as you can on a Mac. I just prefer the Mac.
- asaturn, on 01/10/2008, -0/+4when I worked there, they told me my apple certification is useless. none of the agents I worked with went through any training. they were salespeople in goofy costumes. one guy didn't even know what safe mode was.
- blackmage439, on 01/10/2008, -9/+13Wow, I cannot believe all of the morons digging-down people's anit-Worst Buy comments on here. It is a documented truth that Worst Buy is nothing but a money grubbing, bloated, corporate machine that will do anything to make a buck at the expense of their customers. Geek Squad is also an inept organization dedicated to ripping-off every grandma and single mother they can find; staffed by incompetent high school dropouts without the tech skills necessary to survive in the real world. Period. You cannot in any way, shape, or form deny these facts. Then again, Circuit Crap has a much worse selection, much more moronic employees, and much worse prices than Worst Buy. Frys trumps both stores in two categories, at least; their employees are still idiots (seems to be a trend).
The only reason I shop at Worst Buy is for their cheaper online prices you can periodically find. I was painfully close to nabbing seasons of Babylon 5 for $20.00 each. Missed it by one freaking day... - Rustymetal, on 01/10/2008, -0/+4powerball = the ***** lottery
- edwartica, on 01/10/2008, -0/+4Nah, we still have Fry's.
- grumpychris, on 01/10/2008, -0/+4Way.
- hyperfocal, on 01/10/2008, -2/+6Umbuto?
- theutopian, on 01/10/2008, -0/+3Hey, at least Wal-mart has better prices. Case in point, search for a cheap memory card last night. The cheapest CF memory card at Best Buy was $50. I drove over to Wal-mart and found the chepest memory card for $20. Screw Best Buy.
- BlueStarr, on 01/10/2008, -0/+3Agree.
- plizard, on 01/10/2008, -0/+3geek squad's a joke and you either work for bestbuy, have a lot of stock in them or never shopped there
- roberto_deneero, on 01/10/2008, -1/+4You take your iMac to Geek Squad, I'll take mine to my local Apple store. Good luck.
- outsidethebox, on 01/10/2008, -0/+3By documented truth you mean a bunch of people on Digg who haven't had the best of experiences at a store run by a big corporation? Fight the man! And of course Digg me down.
- dondara, on 01/10/2008, -1/+4***** walmart. Selling plastic trash, shipping billions out to China and treating employees like *****? They make BB look like saints.
- inajeep, on 01/10/2008, -0/+3Why?
- sadatoni, on 01/10/2008, -0/+3I read that TigerDirect was going to buy CompUSA.
- inactive, on 01/10/2008, -0/+3If you have an issue with your Mac you can take it to any authorized Apple dealer for warranty service, regardless of where it was purchased.
- edwartica, on 01/10/2008, -0/+2If I get raped.....well, damn it at least I won't be a virgin anymore!
- Skanadian, on 01/10/2008, -0/+2Worst Buy is almost as witty as Winblows.
- inajeep, on 01/10/2008, -2/+4I admit it, I went to Best Buy to buy my wife's macbook pro for xmas. I went with fairly low expectations when I went seeing the the BB employee the the Mac skillz. But I wanted hands-on and had questions for our first Mac, plus it was 5 minutes from my house. The Mac BB guy who looked like Jesus in a blue golf shirt answered all my questions and was not the stereotypical BB employee that everyone has been bashing lately. The only question I have is with the Warranty extension. I believe BB charges you more for the warranty than Apple would charge. I don't have my receipt at work by according to the 3 year plan Apple charges $349(us) while I believe I payed close to $400 through BB. So when I'm ready to get my Macpro I'll put a little more effort into checking the warranty prices.
- edwartica, on 01/10/2008, -0/+2You think if they opened up a topless bar, they would call it "bust buy?"
- dpowre, on 01/10/2008, -0/+2i buy my apple products from *gasp* an apple store
- erikhensarling, on 01/10/2008, -1/+3Not sure why. Their minions are not very well trained on Macs...or perhaps anything for that matter.
- MacParrot, on 01/10/2008, -1/+3Safe mode = having a good supply of condoms
- cadmiumpaint, on 01/10/2008, -0/+2well there are more best buys in the Country then there are Apple Stores...
- jamiroquai, on 01/10/2008, -0/+2"It gives us non-geeks a place to buy..." You're posting on Digg, and you call yourself a non-geek. Uh, yah.
- chodaboy, on 01/10/2008, -2/+3So that'll be what, two stores selling Mac stuff now?
- dogshaft, on 01/10/2008, -0/+1When I worked in PC sales at Best Buy, before "Geek Squad" was around, they never fixed anything back there anyway. Everything was sent to the regional repair center, where it would stay for a few weeks and usually come back un-repaired, with a note from the techs claiming they found nothing wrong with it.
- MacParrot, on 01/10/2008, -2/+3A large percentage of Windows PCs are sold to the corporate market which DOESN'T shop at Best Buy. If Apple has 5% of the total market, that means that a larger percentage of people who buy computers for themselves are considering Macs. So yes, for a single source supplier of a commodity (Mac computers), it could be considered robust.
- MacParrot, on 01/10/2008, -1/+2Who's the bigger idiot? Someone who pays a high price for a computer that does what they want it to do, or someone like you who claims to have bought two and never use them?
Mouse control? Are you talking about the keyboard/mouse preference panel or the so-called Mighty Mouse (which does suck)? Either way, you sound like someone who would buy two computers that they claim cost too much and then don't use them. Maybe you could buy ANY USB mouse for a Mac and use that?
Unfortunately I have wasted entirely too much time on the likes of you. Good luck with High School. - inactive, on 01/10/2008, -2/+3those days are long gone. now they just make a new case, put some standard PC components in and set the TPM chip to allow running their OS. not a big deal at all.
- edwartica, on 01/10/2008, -0/+1They have this function called "reply." Learn to use it.
- inactive, on 01/10/2008, -0/+1You have one year to decide whether to buy the extended AppleCare for your laptop, and you can buy it directly of Apple.
You *never* buy the extended warranty right away, and certainly not from Best Buy. If your laptop gets lost or stolen or otherwise wrecked within the first year the extra money you spent on extended AppleCare is completely wasted.
Also, AppleCare is transferrable and can add quite a bit of value to your laptop if you choose to sell it 18 months down the road. -
