- whataboutdave, on 10/11/2007, -29/+139It looks really out of place. Like a Bugatti on a junk car lot.
- s33k4, on 10/11/2007, -22/+93its not really that snazzy... looks like a wood table with computers on it
- KBong, on 10/11/2007, -3/+25So, I work at one of the locations that has this in it. One of the things not mentioned yet is that an Apple employee, trained by and working for Apple, staffs the area 40 hours/week. Also, at least at my location, we have been selling Mac's since February. One of things things it has done is given us and the customer an education. I see once PC biased employees now educated and giving our customers a choice. A large volume of people have never seen a Mac or used one. We have become balanced in our opinions and offer the customer a choice on both platforms. One other thing to note, Apple is a price locked brand. So, Best Buy can NOT sell the Macs or accys. for any less then what Apple says we can.
Overall I only see retailers offering more an expanded product assortment as a good thing. - greatblackowl, on 10/11/2007, -8/+26Man, you take the whole "Mac Snobbery" to a totally new level. My iPod's great. So is my Thinkpad :)
- whataboutdave, on 10/11/2007, -8/+26What kind of stores do you shop at? "Man, this house is just wood and drywall with shingles on it."
- ajchavar, on 10/11/2007, -4/+20and youre the reason people think all mac fans are *****
- monospaced, on 10/11/2007, -5/+19pssst…
you can use any keyboard with your iMac - Biker803, on 10/11/2007, -0/+12Well, I work for a Best Buy store currently and I'll vouch for pretty much everyone in my department when saying that they know absolutely nothing about Macs (and well, computers in general). We recently had a meeting and when we were asked which of us knew anything about Macs, I was the only one that raised my hand. Then we were asked if we had least ever used them, and I was still the only one. There is training we can take up, but most of the guys don't care anyway. Pay isn't too great -- there's no commission. That can be a good and bad thing I guess. I'm the only person who does computer programming/web programming on the side which is in part why I actually enjoy my job. I enjoy computers/technology just like everyone else here. Everyone else at my job is just there to have a job. It really sucks because I find myself answering a lot of computer questions for the other guys when they're in a sale. Doesn't really give the customer any trust in the person they are talking to.
- joel.smith, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11I think he was referring to Best Buy's practices.. not Apple's.. personally, I agree with the guy.. Best Buy is mad expensive.
- shiftt, on 10/11/2007, -2/+11This will cause a lot of problems for Apple if they don't train the Best Buy employees correctly.
- alwaysmc2, on 10/11/2007, -2/+10interesting. To me they just look like alters.
Though, at the Best Buy closest to me there's just the one black pillar with a big white apple logo, so it looks even more like an shrine. - quikboy, on 10/11/2007, -5/+13Best Buy also has other high-end computers that they've been selling. Like HP's MediaSmart computer (the big touch-screen kitchen computer), Sony Vaios (saw some news one last weekend) and some awesome LG displays. Apple isn't the only company that makes high-end computers you know.
- limpits, on 10/11/2007, -4/+12yea but you forget, digg is filled with people who cream themselves at the mention of apple
- dragoonex, on 10/11/2007, -2/+10I find it funny how they cover up the actual prices. Keeps the shock level down.
- smurf22, on 10/11/2007, -14/+21I hate best buy but I love apple, I dont know if it burry or to digg!
- covercash, on 07/01/2009, -4/+11the King of Prussia, PA bestbuy just got one of these... i stopped in with a friend and we poked around for a bit. overall they're pretty cool, but there are a few things that suck...
1. NO applecare anywhere in the store... they want customers to buy the BB ***** warranty. luckily if they get an 'apple' guy selling this stuff, he can have customers purchase applecare directly online since all the computers have internet connections :)
2. saw geek squad papers all over the table
3. nobody knew ANYTHING about the computers they were selling. the guy they have assigned to that section still needed to complete his 'training'... he seemed very enthusiastic about working the apple section which was a plus
4. notebooks all had their batteries removed so if sales people want to demo or customers want to test magsafe, computer will power off. plus it looks like ***** if you flip the computer over. apparently this is BB policy... they claimed they do it to all their laptops because they resell the floor models.
5. whoever imaged the machines had no clue what they were doing... deep freeze icons all over the place, folders on the desktop that shouldn't have been there... it was really sad. i offered to show them how to fix it but they didnt seem to care.
a few things that weren't so bad:
1. the apple section was visible from EVERYWHERE in the store... you could definitely feel the apple presence
2. the interactive demo they had running on the machines was pretty cool for people who were new to macs. maybe some of the employees should play around with it.
overall impressions: definitely not controlled 100% by apple... there is some 'sloppiness' that apple certainly would not approve of if they had complete control over the look/feel/workings of the setup. but still really cool to have such a large, noticeable presence at a bestbuy considering there IS an apple retail store right across the street (even though it is being run into the ground by a scumbag manager who sleeps with his employees... which is against apple policy. PA people should go to suburban square where the management and staff are all awesome!!!) - Silthrim, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8There isn't anything wrong with liking the Mac keyboard! ^__^
- bpollay, on 10/11/2007, -6/+13why do all apple products look so ***** awesome?
- JorgeGonzalez, on 10/11/2007, -7/+13Reading this article, the flash ad above is for the Dell 1330 laptop, their new super-laptop. I click it and of course, they forgot to embed a link. Apple for the win?
- DaffyDuck, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7"Not many of their stories are even true." Well, the pictures in this case kinda back up the words.
- nakile, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7Oh, yes.
Employee: Can I help you?
Customer: So, these Apple's over here... I hear they're catching on. What do they do?
Employee: Oh, those? Well, sir. Those are for serious professionals. If you want to edits photos, use the web, read email, a PC would be better.
Customer: I see...
Oh boy... - speedyrev, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7Why are you seeing an ad? Do people surf without adblock?
- z33Tec, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7"Classic elegance never goes out of style." Hilarious. Apple fanboys at their finest...
- sims5487, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6Your elitism is unmatched. And that's coming from a guy who is typing this very sentence on a Mac.
- victorc26, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6That and Ultimate is NOT the defacto WIndows version. Home Premium is, and the OEM copy costs $110.
All Ultimate has is Bitlocker, and Dreamscene. All PC builders don't even look at Ultimate out of sanity. - Verdanic, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6What the hell?

Given the Dell's processor is just a bit of a downgrade from the Mac's but the Dell's monitor is a 22 versus a 20 and more powerful video card, over $1500 difference? I'm not getting your math. - michrech, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5"Are you guys still brainwashed by the camp who claims Macs are still overpriced? Configure a comparable PC and you're at the same price."
Are you still brainwashed by the camp who claims Mac's are comparable in price to a similarly configured PC? Seems you are.

Price? $2642.00 Look at all the stuff I had to ADD just to GET to the $2600 range! An extra battery, carrying case, 2gb USB flash drive, upgraded from the Dell wireless card to an Intel, better video card (even over what the Macbook Pro has), noise canceling headphones... Remove the extra stuff I added and you are right around $2000. *$800 LESS* than the macbook pro. The same *exact* thing happened when I did a Mac Pro desktop (though the difference was closer to $500-ish).
But don't let little things like *facts* get in the way of your rabid fanboyism. - Tddupre, on 10/11/2007, -3/+7I'm really happy about this b/c the closet apple store is over and 1 and 30 minutes away but now i can go to the local best buy...awesome
- NicksVideo, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5"Not many of their stories are even true."
That's kind of what happens when you run a rumor site. - Szandor, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Was it the secret handshake that gave him away?
- victorc26, on 10/11/2007, -4/+7Why would you be dugg down. It's true, that's what makes OSX so likeable. It's GUI is friendly.
- chriskeyes, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Actually, only Vista Ultimate is $400. Other comparable versions cost less. Like I saw Home Premium for $120 at Circuit City.
- vocalyouth, on 10/11/2007, -10/+13This looks like someone vomited a little corner of the Apple store in the middle of BB. I wish Apple would have picked, well, just about any other retailer to put this in.
- snoudude, on 10/11/2007, -5/+8I wouldn't spend $2k for a computer that I even thought the GEEK SQUAD might get ahold of. Everything I buy at BB I check to make sure none of that BestBuy tape has been on the box. If I need something right away it may be my only choice - other than that I'd buy via the net. The one GOOD thing about it would be there might be a better selection of software for Mac owners and as Silthrim mentioned if you needed a replacement keyboard/mouse/doo-hickey you can have a decent chance of getting one if you're miles away from an Apple store.
- Neourotick, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4well you could click on where it says >Learn More the link on that part of the ad works fine.
- bencefeher, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Not true. Also, if I want a comparable PC in black I do not have to pay extra for the color!
- Szandor, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3"Is thinker1999 being offensive?"
No, just real ***** stupid. - vocalyouth, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Just look at how much it clashes with it's surroundings. Best Buy has to have the ugliest store designs ever, a generally clueless staff, and is just generally irritating to shop in. I am not sure what store would be better, but I absolutely loathe Best Buy.
- mywhitenoise, on 10/11/2007, -3/+6that's not true. If you build the PC all yourself, it's cheaper. If you're configuring a Dell, than it will be more expensive.
I'm a Mac fan, and have always used Macs by the way. - fkr3, on 10/11/2007, -8/+11Meh... I'm not 12 or bigoted, my sister's a dyke and I know lots of fags. If you want to take offense then that's up to you, I really couldn't care less. Everyone has labels that apply to them, they used to be called adjectives and... they still are! What would you have me call them... the fat ***** squad, so the fat ***** out there get offended? Or perhaps I could call them the retard squad, and offend the retards? Words are just words champ.
- Insomnya3AM, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5I really like those black Apple price-hiders.
It's like.. SURPRISE! *hugeprice* - yournamehere, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3OEM copy of Vista Home Premium cost me $25. It came with my system along with XP MC edition. So even $110 sounds like you got ripped off.
- victorc26, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4This is true. Try to ask them where the OCZ dimms are, and you'll get a blank stare.
It's gotten to the point where some Mac enthusiests believe that all PC are jalopies. I tried explaining that PC can be as beautiful and as reliable as a Mac, but I don't think they understood what I was trying to say.
Best Buy is the worst place to be if you want a Mid to High-end PC with excellent parts. - Oobitsa, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Only if they slap some of that yummy porn that they stole off of other people's machines onto mine when they come over to my house and install my...uh...well...ok, they're never coming over to my house.
- nakile, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Another thing. As we all know, Geek Squad is part of Best Buy. They repair PCs, right?
So I doubt that any employee with a buddy over in the Geek Squad booth will recommend a Mac. Don't want to hurt business or lead to a loss job... - Szandor, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3"I got to BBY to mess with the computer salespeople's heads for fun."
You must lead quite an exciting life. - victorc26, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Both groups have elitists and nutsos.
- colincornaby, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4Wow. Looks like the Mac users aren't the elitist ones.
- inactive, on 11/04/2008, -0/+2ah, it's a tour thing apple must have made.
