- WEBender, on 10/12/2007, -5/+127really? I thought your emergency services number was "2-0118 999 881 999 119 725 ...3"
- DtectiveGFriday, on 10/12/2007, -6/+93wow. -50 diggs in 30 minutes. impressive.
- psxman, on 10/12/2007, -3/+59It doesn't matter. Anytime I see something with more than 50 -diggs, I immediately click "show comment" to see what the hell they said. I'd imagine others are the same way.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+61That is probably the best written news story I have ever read.
- nogami, on 10/12/2007, -5/+43Wouldn't Jobs have a 666 prefix? :)
- elint, on 10/12/2007, -2/+31bah, web ... had to create an account just so I could digg your comment :P
- LR2_, on 10/12/2007, -1/+25Babies can't make prank calls, they just want to know what the hell that new company of his is going to do.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -10/+32You should be ashamed of yourself.
First off, joking about a person being a paedophile is a terrible thing to do in this day and age. Period. Unless you're talking about Alex Albrecht and Hermione Granger.
Second, what a terrible person to joke around about that toward. I have had the good fortune to communicate with Woz privately as well as meet him on a couple of occasions and he is an incredibly gracious, kind, humble person. Further, having lived just a stone's throw away from the campus overlooking the 405 and in the same general area as Woz, I've known plenty of people who have known him to various degrees and to a person, they will cite him as possibly the most friendly and nice person in the industry, if not the ***** _planet_.
It's just needless and uncalled for and I'm glad others had the sense to mod you down, you baby killer. - blakespot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21I guess digg'ers are about to join the babies in that endeavor...
- thepotoo, on 10/12/2007, -7/+27Wouldn't Jobs have a 666 prefix? :)
Nah, that's Bill Gate's number. 666-6666.
Not to be confused with Linus' number: 555-1337 - FullMetalMonkey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19I wonder who has the number 777-7777????..... (Runs to phone and starts dialing!)
- Thorpe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17Well, it's so easy for babies to do that but here in UK babies can just as easily dial 999 for the emergency services.
- SlashChick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16For those who don't get the long number string... I searched the web for "2-0118 999 881 999 119 725" and found this:

Have fun. ;) - ,,|,_, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18I've never seen a toll free cell phone
- B4L1STA, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15888, of course :P
- cubbieco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13FYI - Toll free numbers are not attached to anything. They can ring to a cell/fax/pager... A toll free number just forwards the call to a regular number.
- crazyworld, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12that would be Mr. Jobs
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Absolutely fantastic story
Had a story in a similar vein newspaper I worked at a few years ago, a slightly odd man was calling all numbers in his area code, starting with 000 000, then 000 001, and carrying on until he got a valid phone number, he would then attempt to have a short conversation with the person at the other end; if he succeeded he wrote about the call in a diary
Turns out he'd been doing it for years, documenting literally hundreds of phone calls he'd had with strangers
He was kind enough to let us carry excerpts from the conversations every day for a few weeks - burke, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12One of my math teachers has 867-5309.
(and no, there's nobody there by the name of 'Jenny'.) - bigred, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Think about all the parents who had no idea who Woz was. I'm betting 9/10 people have no idea who he is, and 8/10 have no idea who steve jobs is.
- Progranism, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13Woz is corrupting our youth!
- Loonacy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Only when using Alanis Morissette's definition of ironic.
- williamw, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9This has been on digg before, still cool though
- MikeEnIke, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Not really...
- mark1372, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7A headline I never expected to read anywhere.
- bontaq, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10For some reason, this makes me warm and fuzzy inside. Think about all those parents, who had no idea that their children had dialed Woz's phone. ^__^
- dramatools, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8100 babies will be nothing compared to all the calls he's gonna get now that his phone number's on digg.
- aaronlidman, on 10/12/2007, -6/+12man woz is great, I've heard nothing but great things about him.
- deepsub, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Given Woz's & Job's past invovling blue boxes (payphone coin tone generators), this is incredibly funny poetic justice.
Goo goo. - BugMeNot2, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7"The wirless customer you are trying to reach is not available. Please try again later!"
:-/ - puffarthur, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8wow you really can't get away with saying anything remotely negative about apple without being dugg down.
- weirdal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5heh, I forgot 888's were toll free :p
I can't believe he gets 100 babies a day from the same area code though... - bedheadben, on 10/12/2007, -6/+11crank call? or prank call
- LR2_, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10Dude, you are right! If you go to page 1 of the article it says that the story was published in 1997! Not really 20-30yrs ago..but this is old.
- timbudtwo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+71800-555-TREE
555 number for lending tree. - ZachPruckowski, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6well, 8 is the easiest button to get to, bottom middle. And 555 is always fake, as I understand it.
- ZachPruckowski, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7I still made my night. I don't care how old it is.
- Jolene, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5How do you get it to show up to what you want? o.O
- jonbauer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Woz has talked about this for a while. He also does something else that's kinda cool. He has two Motorola RAZRWIRE's, one in each ear. Each is connected to a different cell phone. When you call one phone with the other, the effect is pretty weird, as you'd imagine...
- weirdal, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6is his area code 888 too?
there must be a lot of curious babies in his area if not - FreydNot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3That would be a red box. Blue boxes let you seize and re-dial on a trunk line.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3in Louisville, ky, an attorney has(502) 777-7777 and runs a TV campaign where he asks people on the street how fast they can say his number
- zonk3r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3555 is not quite unused... here's more: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/555_telephone_number
- Minos, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4That is Awesome.
I would kill to have Batman show up when I call people.
Luckily, I won't have to kill. Just pay. - Tkkt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Someone answers at 650-888-8888 but he isn't steve. Or at least he says he isn't.
- ToadX, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4No, crank call is incorrect. It should be prank call. Does the phrase "crank call" make sense to you? "Prank call" certainly does.
- crazypip666, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3i believe the area code is either 408 or 650
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4@ diggmann
I swear to god, every thread I go to in which you make a comment you always get buried, whats up with that. Its like a pattern, I think that you must have the running record for most buried comments on digg history...Are you sure you are not Koolaidguy in disguise? - Psykus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Would these happen to be online anywhere? I'd love to read some of them.
