- n8dawg87, on 11/22/2007, -0/+35Sweet Jesus, i want Skype on my iPod! It might make me consider forking out the minimum $14 for skype credits..
- conchur, on 11/22/2007, -0/+15And speak into them so that someone a long way away can hear you too...
- dpknc84, on 11/22/2007, -1/+14If this ends up working out, I might actually have to reconsider getting an iPod touch and start using Skype again.
- aceslick911, on 11/22/2007, -2/+15the amount of stupid comments in this thread is unprecedented!
- abandonedhero, on 11/22/2007, -2/+14Trying reading the title once more and maybe even read the actual article. It's about audio INPUT, not output.
- jaygee, on 11/22/2007, -2/+14"Audio in" is now working on an iPod. People used them for "Audio Out" BEFORE.. ! !
- drunkenoaf, on 11/22/2007, -0/+10You mean you can't just use VoIP on your PC or mac anyway?
Also, iPod touch doesn't use EDGE. And the iPhone, obviously, has audio in. - directive0, on 11/22/2007, -1/+10Erica FTW.
- BoneStamp, on 11/22/2007, -0/+9If you jailbreak your iPhone, you can install a voice recorder application.
- drunkenoaf, on 11/22/2007, -0/+9You also fail. iPhone isn't the same device as iPod touch. Hence Tippis' comment.
- Four20, on 11/22/2007, -2/+10fail
- MrCoke, on 11/22/2007, -0/+85th nested comment, if you read this you are a true digg nerd.
- trogdoor, on 11/22/2007, -1/+9Why have all of the iPod models included line in, but with no support for it in the soft/firmware? Is it cheaper to use a part that does both just because it's generic?
- Tippis, on 11/22/2007, -1/+9Because his comment is irrelevant to the topic at hand.
- sweintraub, on 11/22/2007, -5/+12http://www.fring.com get off your asses!
- bigsteve, on 11/22/2007, -1/+8You dual boot three operating systems? That's half awesome, half impressive, and half incredible.
- teflonmann, on 11/22/2007, -2/+9And does it have Wlan so you could use this audio recording functionality to do VoIP calls ? - That's what this article is about !
You can record audio with any iPod just fine. There are many add-on products that provide this functionality. - cplex, on 11/22/2007, -0/+6Or you just have 'show all threads' enabled :p
- awhiteflame, on 11/22/2007, -1/+6Seeing as iPod have the greatest portion of market share, I would say that the iPod is the most "real" as you can get.
- bigsteve, on 11/22/2007, -3/+8Dude, come on. Don't be a dick.
It's at least, like, 60. - Speed, on 11/22/2007, -2/+6Caps lock is not cruise control for cool, despite what people may have told you.
And it's just Captain Obvious. Not Captain State the Obvious, just Captain Obvious - Assezdefromage, on 11/22/2007, -3/+7Again, read the article. The premise is that this could be coupled with the wifi to get a VOIP system off the ground. Do you get it now?
- trogdoor, on 11/22/2007, -2/+6What?
- JohnnyKdiggs, on 11/22/2007, -3/+6The iPod touch doesn't work with Linux.
- Davers, on 11/22/2007, -0/+3Or you could just pay the $30 for an entire YEAR of unlimited calls.
- bigsteve, on 11/22/2007, -0/+3The iPod Touch uses a standard 1/8" headphone jack. The iPhone does not, as it uses an extra ring for mic input.
- bigsteve, on 11/22/2007, -0/+2It's a festive Horn O' Plenty of stupid on this bright Thanksgiving morn...
- madmage, on 11/22/2007, -0/+2Skype isn't an open protocol....
Unless Skype makes a program with the SDK next year, it ain't happening. The best you can hope for it Gtalk audio, or AIM audio. - cplex, on 11/22/2007, -1/+3Best comment EVER!!
- ausfahrt, on 11/22/2007, -0/+27th!
- bigsteve, on 11/22/2007, -0/+2This would only require a Windows or Mac box to perform the jailbreak and drop the installer app... for this you could probably use bochs or VMWare. From there, it's a hardware hack (or possibly less, if old dock connector audio accessories work) to obtain audio in, and an on-iPod procedure to install audio recording software, and hopefully one day, a VoIP/SiP client.
- bigsteve, on 11/22/2007, -0/+2Because whoever wrote the description is slow. Since the initial 1.0.x jailbreak, you've been able to record audio on the iPhone. It's obviously a typo, and the submitter meant to type iPod Touch.
- bigsteve, on 11/22/2007, -0/+2Do you install software on your Macbook or iMac? Or do you keep those "factory spec" as well?
The jailbreak is a very reversible and simple software hack. - steelmaverick, on 11/22/2007, -1/+3its $10
- stupidbrowner, on 11/22/2007, -0/+1Or a SIP phone!
- Billions, on 11/23/2007, -0/+1Erica is the new aXXo
- Billions, on 11/23/2007, -0/+1What the hell are you talking about, DeFex?
- supermanred, on 04/15/2008, -0/+1Does it work for iPod Touch if I buy one of those microphone addons for it?
- supermanred, on 04/15/2008, -0/+1Im installing the fring client on my ipod touch and getting the addon microphone (60 bucks)... At least I could make free calls at home and work, and quite a few places inbetween.
- supermanred, on 04/15/2008, -0/+1Ha Ha! You have no concept of what you are talking about and your mp3 player is inferior to ours! - Nelson voice
- supermanred, on 04/15/2008, -0/+1It already has OS X on it, why would you want to replace it with a ***** UNIX os?
- bigsteve, on 11/22/2007, -1/+1At this point I'd assume it's a given, as the bluetooth discussion regarding the iPod Touch hinged around VoIP.
- jghoward, on 09/24/2008, -0/+0Did it work? Will this headset http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB770 work with the Fring client on ipod touch?
- 1337n3rd, on 11/22/2007, -3/+3when will i be able to use skype on my iPodTouch? (cant take that long now anymore)
- Assezdefromage, on 11/22/2007, -3/+3Define 'real' for us please...
- nshop2, on 02/03/2009, -0/+0Nice review... I liked it.
Thanks

http://www.moviedl.co.cc - mjdinsmore, on 11/23/2007, -0/+0This is exactly why I wanted to buy an iPod Touch. I loved the iPhone but I really couldn't bring myself to spending the monthly cost in addition to the initial cost. I spend the most of my time in an area where I always have a WiFi signal (Cambridge / MIT) so not having complete accessibility ALL the time isn't an issue. I'm glad I made a nice carrying care for my iPod Touch (http://dinsmores.org/archives/89) to carry it around with my so its handy!
- kidcodea, on 11/22/2007, -2/+2plenty wifi gear with audioin in the market...
