- Ireland, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19Here's what I'm looking for in the music playing one:
1. Easy-to-use.
2. Good reception.
3. Good looks.
4. Either one of the functions aren't compromised by the other.
That's all I want. If they deliver, then I'll buy. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19I hate to break it to you but the CDMA providers in the USA are the worst most pretentious companies around. Sprint and VZW FTL
+Digg for no CDMA - deadbaby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12There was plenty of competition for the iPod when it first came out.
- Desolite, on 10/12/2007, -6/+14this thread is useless without pictures.
- terath, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Uh. Laptops. One of the most competitive areas. Yet the powerbook and macbooks are becoming extremely popular.
- danjeeva, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7How about the Walkman fanboys who converted to the iPod?
- uptown, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5"I'll still be switching as soon as number portability comes into play."
Ummm... Hasn't that been "in play" for over a year now? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5@ carapi - "Specialness" isn't a word and I've been mainstream on the internet since 1995, you doubtfully have any place to comment on what terminology I use.
- WolfwoodX, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5You wouldn't have that problem if you used Firefox and Adblock Plus.
- zaren, on 10/12/2007, -9/+12Blah blah blah, more unsubstantiated rumor-mongering and re-re-re-hashing of rhe same tired old "what if"s and "a supplier from Taiwan says...". As big an Apple fanboy as I am, this has been dug down as lame. Let me know when there's some actual PROOF Apple's coming out with a phone, like a SKU.
- CannedCorn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4People with CDMA service are idiots, it may work better in some places, but honestly where is that business model leading those companies? the only place for them to go is down as the rest of the world leaves them behind and continues to use the standard gsm based services with sim cards.
- fcuknu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2That is there data service. Verizons/Sprints EV-DO is 3G also. Edge is 2.75G, GPRS is 2.5G
- ohmar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Although i agree with you and share your frustration, my family get the best service in the 3 locations we need from verizon, hence, we go with verizon. But yeah, I dont really understand their deal with the feature lockouts. Just weird.

People with CDMA service are idiots.

How does picking the best service and best price available at a given time make me an idiot?
My EVDO commitment is temporary (my phone and service contract will 'expire' about the same time), it meets my needs (I don't want/need a 'world phone', need high speed data in many cities, and need good reception in my neighborhood), and the GSM options available cost more and don't work as well for what I need (limited high speed rollout, and bad reception near me).
Now, how exactly am I an idiot? - omnivector, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2No. Try upgrading to a real cell network that doesn't cheat it's customers by locking out built in bluetooth cell phone functions for proprietary expensive *****.
- ohmar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2So, (suppose i dont know all the different cell phone connection standards), if I have Verizon, can i get a new 'iPhone' (or whatever they call it)?
- manoftheisland, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1dude learn to spell iPhone ... you will need to know that... iPod killed the walkman by its self... Apple brought in the modern user interface.... and is doing quite well in the laptop market now.
- sinembarg0, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I believe by 3G they mean something that will be compatible with Verizon and other CDMA phone services, but 3G is just too general of a term to be sure.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3g_phone - manoftheisland, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yeah someone get photoshop running.... i mean.. take pictures
- blacklint, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Verizon's network is a real network. And yes, the locking me out of features my phone has is really annoying. But wouldn't that be the perfect reason to replace the phone with a shiny new Apple one while keeping the decent service? Especially for someone who doesn't plan on leaving North America any time soon (yes, there is CDMA service in Canada as well)?
- masskurec, on 03/01/2009, -0/+0apple is becoming more and more elite
http://xptweak.net - romsel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I´m gonna buy the umts/gsm one
- alxknowland, on 11/30/2008, -0/+0I got one now and it's pretty elite.
http://www.thewallstreetking.com/?p=7 for info on Apple in the present! :) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Also wouldn't have that problem with about 6 seconds of preparation using IE.
- fcuknu, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Well I am sure they meant that it will use CDMA and take advantage of the 3G EV-DO data services networks offered by those carriers. There is no such thing (in the us) as a 3g network. GSM (cingular/tmobile) is 2G. CDMA (verizon/sprint) is 2.75G. IDEN (nextel) is 2G.
- terath, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1No, people with CDMA are either locked in, or have grandfathered plans that can't be beaten with todays inflated prices. For instance, when I got my phone service, CDMA was all there was. I still to this day have the same plan. No company will now offer me an equivalent plan.
Although to be honest, I'll still be switching as soon as number portability comes into play. Had my number for 12 or 13 years. Don't really want to change it since so many people now have it. - CannedCorn, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1wrong, cingular's edge is 2.5G, cingular's hsdpa/umts is 3G
- valkyries, on 10/12/2007, -10/+4i love how right now theres the same story (2 digg post down) is the same story....
- Lounger540, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1Isn't 3G another way of saying new CDMA?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -9/+1I hate to be a downer here, but name on industy that had ANY competition when Apple entered it that Apple has succeeded even REMOTELY in.
I'll await your replies.
But think about this. When Apple...IF Apple...released an iPohone, they will be competing with fanboys for OTHER competitors. And then see my question. Name one area of business where tey were able to successful make fanboys of other companies switch with enough numbers to be profitable. - tbeseda, on 10/12/2007, -11/+3why digg down a CDMA request.
Yeah, it sucks. but i'm locked into VZW - zforrester, on 10/12/2007, -10/+2NOT DUGG because of that horrible friggin AD!
I'm sorry, but that irritated the hell out of me - g0rdy, on 10/12/2007, -11/+2CDMA higher b/w
- TheDiggMan, on 10/12/2007, -23/+9No CDMA version.
:( - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -15/+2Killa...thre is this GREAT new website for people like you. People who still use inane acronyms MONTHS after everyone else considered it annoying to do so. You know, things like M$, LOL, ROTFL, or FTW/FTL.
You should go to that website. It is more your level of maturity and "specialness" It is called Myspace.com. You will fit RIGHT in.

What is Digg?
