- mmijatov, on 08/14/2008, -6/+28Pure stock price isn't the sole determination of a company's worth, "so what" indeed.
- inactive, on 08/15/2008, -0/+13One would hope that a company that makes a tangible product would be worth more than a marketing firm.
- inactive, on 08/15/2008, -4/+16So what.
- Dunnion, on 08/15/2008, -3/+13A story that says apple is good? this will be the top Digg story in no time!
- systemdowned, on 08/15/2008, -4/+12Yay Steve Jobs is more of a billionaire today than he was yesterday. Now let me get back to my 7 dollar an hour job so I can save up for a 300 dollar ipod. I love giving my money to Steve. He's so awesome. If I save up long enough, maybe I can get a 500 dollar computer for 1200 dollars!!!!!! Thanks STEVE!!!! I LOVE YOU!
- transversed, on 08/15/2008, -3/+9Google has plenty of hard sales. Print publishers are beginning to feel the pinch as the value of print ads is being eclipsed by web ads. Besides, the real value in a company is in the assets they hold and the debt they are accountable for. Some of the best minds work for both of these companies - and these people are big assets. So is intellectual property. I wouldn't play down google's value because they don't sell devices. Though i agree market capitalization is a very poor measure of a company's worth, fickle even.
- yellowswan, on 08/15/2008, -1/+7"Just because you can't hold something doesn't (mean) it's intangible."
That's what I tell my girlfriend every night. - BossKey, on 08/15/2008, -0/+5Market cap at these levels differs little from a high-school popularity contest. All it tells you is the level of unfounded speculation brokers are willing to participate in regarding that stock. The proper response to this by Apple fans should be "meh."
And I've always preferred Macs, but I've also studied stocks... - Oxygen, on 08/15/2008, -14/+19It just makes Apple people feel important for a brief instant. Even though they're not.
- RudeTurnip, on 08/15/2008, -1/+5No, it isn't the only way. Although it's a very strong indicator.
- chompapotamus, on 08/15/2008, -2/+6McDonalds is worth more than both....
- lorductape, on 08/15/2008, -1/+5because I don't know if you've been following the news, but there are still lines at apple stores and the phone, released a month ago, is still in insanely high demand.
not to be the fanboy, but apple's having some of it's greatest months in history, regardless of whether "they've released *****." The computers are selling faster than ever. - inactive, on 08/15/2008, -1/+4if they gave you a DVR they wouldn't be able to sell you stuff by itunes, look what happened when apple tried gaming before, and given apples current trend of offering a medium spec system in a fancy case for twice the price, they would get absolutely raped in the console market, can you see them selling a console for less than 200-300 dollars? no me neither.
and the iphone nano concept is just idiotic - dangero, on 08/15/2008, -0/+3McDonald's sells more dollar menu double cheeseburgers than apple sells of 99c songs from Itunes.
- inactive, on 08/15/2008, -0/+3This is generally been the trend throughout history of Apple stock. The stock price starts rising weeks before Jobs is going to make a new product announcement, and we all know one's coming in September. The stock price will continue increasing until about 15 mins before the start of the keynote and then all of a sudden, it'll drop like a rock. By the end of the keynote, the price comes back to what it was weeks ago. So, here, you know when to buy AAPL and when to sell it.
- inactive, on 08/15/2008, -2/+5***** terrorist fist bumps.
- pyrates, on 08/15/2008, -0/+2But the iPhone Shuffle concept rocks!
- wissler, on 08/15/2008, -0/+2Exactly.
- inactive, on 08/15/2008, -2/+4Except the iPhone? What about the MacBook Air and Time Capsule? Hmmm, and doesn't the iPhone have this little thing called the App Store, which has had like 30 million downloads?

Mighty Mouse - j0se, on 08/15/2008, -1/+3I was getting blow jobs before Steve Jobs made the iPod.
- santaliqueur, on 08/15/2008, -2/+4Stock price X number of available shares is the *only* way to determine the worth of a publicly traded company. This is how Apple is worth more than Google.
- MrViklund, on 08/15/2008, -0/+2Meaningless?
Typical Apple-hater comment. - BossKey, on 08/15/2008, -0/+2If you get that beach ball too often...yr doing it wrong.
- MtheoryX, on 08/15/2008, -0/+2So says the person who took the time to post a comment.
- mousky, on 08/15/2008, -1/+3Really? Because I often see companies pay a premium when making a hostile bid for another company. That would seem to indicate that, based on stock price, the company is undervalued.
- Br3ach, on 08/15/2008, -3/+5Buried, this is a pointless comparison for Apple lunatics to have something else to be smug about
- inactive, on 08/15/2008, -1/+3i dont hate apple, i hate the smugness of apple fanboys, your computer does not make you cool, it does not make you part of some elite cult, it doesnt make you some kind of ultra smart uber geek, all it means, is that you have an apple computer, and for some reason owning one gives you the impression that anyone who doesn't own one is below you.
Computers are and always will be a tool box, you choose the best tool to do the job, for some people that's linux/*nix variants, for some people thats windows and for some people that's osx, thinking owning one particular system makes you better than someone else is just idiotic. - inactive, on 08/15/2008, -0/+2I'd like to see NOBODY buy Valve, and let Valve keep Steam in the process.
- bipolarruledout, on 08/16/2008, -0/+1Digg me down but I fail to see how there is a really big difference. They are all in it for the dollars.
- kaosethema, on 08/15/2008, -0/+1yes, the sheeple* keep buying apple products and my equity says "cha-ching"
fill your homes with sharp-looking but mediocre technology... please!!
daddy needs to quit his job and retire early
* sheep + people - kaosethema, on 08/15/2008, -0/+1but so what? my wallet just got a little heavier, that's what?
- bipolarruledout, on 08/16/2008, -0/+1Their software might at least go x86 native if apple bought them up.
- fabreeze, on 08/16/2008, -0/+1Chicken butt
- streak, on 08/16/2008, -0/+1So what so what? What is this even doing here? Oh, I get it! A bunch of people who stand to profit from any failure of Apple's wants it here.
- transversed, on 08/18/2008, -0/+1thats what i've been saying all along. noone wants to take responsibility.
- surferjoemaui, on 08/16/2008, -0/+1I don't think you are listening to enough 'Snoop Dogg'
- Trevahaha, on 08/16/2008, -0/+1How so?? I know you're being funny, but how are you calculating that - or just joking?
- kelly, on 08/19/2008, -0/+1Apple already is going head to head with Microsoft. Microsoft is using the business model that is failing while Apple's is growing. The questions is whether Microsoft should follow the Apple business model and stop making operating systems for all PC makers and then build hardware themselves.
- FredFredrickson, on 08/15/2008, -1/+2I don't know, but up until this point it hasn't been anywhere near where it was a year ago.
- techie4life, on 08/16/2008, -0/+1I believe its apples to google not oranges.
- bipolarruledout, on 08/16/2008, -0/+1But Apple also sells marketing, it just happens to be wrapped around a tangible product. You can't argue with their fat margins relative to other "PC" companies.
- sayssimon, on 08/15/2008, -1/+2stocks stocks stock stocks stocks.
- anonymous1986, on 08/15/2008, -0/+1Your intelligence was briefly overvalued for a moment, nevermind i corrected that.
- donte, on 08/15/2008, -0/+1But how do people selling tangible products get people to know about their product without marketing? Just remember that there are more companies trying to sell stuff that need Google than products that Apple has to sell. Also, don't forget that Google has income from licensing the use of some of its services that are not related to advertising at all.
- mfingers, on 08/15/2008, -0/+1An apple a day, keeps google away!
- inactive, on 08/15/2008, -0/+1Where did I say anything about a console? I said "gaming division." The best selling games on PCs run on minimum spec hardware. Games like Half-Life 2, and Counter-Strike: Source. Call of Duty 4 is coming out for Macs pretty soon. I would like to see Apple buy Valve and get Steam in the process. If you really think about it, Macs have a lot in common with consoles, in that they have very specific hardware to code for, which is great for video game developers.
Ask any game developer and they will tell you that PCs are notoriously hard to code for because there are so many different hardware configurations. Thousands really. That's why so many companies makes games for consoles instead.
The DVR is a good idea because Apple wouldn't have to worry about television studios like NBC. They don't make any money off of iTunes anyway and especially iTunes video, so it really wouldn't matter if they couldn't sell the content. They would sell a boat load of AppleTVs in the process, without having to waste bandwidth so people can download video content.
And the iPhone Nano would just hold about 2 to 4 gigabytes of music and make calls, but that's all. Really simple and it would make LOTS of money, trust me. - PatrickBrown, on 08/15/2008, -1/+2I wonder what it would be worth if Steve Jobs died tomorrow.
- Iztikeit, on 08/16/2008, -1/+2Apple mostly relies on marketing strategies to get people to buy their product over their competitors, when the reality is their products are almost identical in function. You also get a nice price increase, because....
Apple > Oranges
PCs are different from Macs, right? Apple, you had me at ipod, but that's all you had me at. - Iztikeit, on 08/16/2008, -0/+1Google does give you a tangible product. Google wasn't always a giant in the marketing sector.
- SeanRoss, on 08/15/2008, -0/+1Virtual fist bump or terrorist fist jab?
You be the judge... -
