- danscannnn, on 01/17/2009, -4/+52i can't wait for the macbook wheel
- 4LeggedtriPod, on 01/17/2009, -5/+34I am an Apple fan, but never for the life of me will understand why anyone thinks the Macbook air is in any way practical.
- nickspohn, on 01/17/2009, -1/+23SAYS BLOG
- larryjr88, on 01/17/2009, -0/+20We all know how trustworthy Apple blogs are.
Wait - jake1337, on 01/17/2009, -1/+15"I'll buy anything if it's shiny and made by Apple"
- canyonblue, on 01/17/2009, -1/+14These Apple rumors all are obvious guesses for the most part ... let's see...
1. iMacs with updated processors!
2. Mac mini's with updated processors!
3. Laptops with bigger/smaller screens and updated processors!
4. New iPhones during the summer with OS 3.0!
5. New iPods in September with new colors/features/lower prices!
6. Snow Leopard 10.6 is coming at WWDC!
Let's see/hear/report on some s**t I **DON'T** know! - JamesBondJr, on 01/17/2009, -4/+1615 inches doesn't seem like portability to me
- hiro, on 01/17/2009, -0/+9Do you know what AKA means? Or the difference between loose and lose?
Kind of takes away the validity of your "insider" statement - MikeCerm, on 01/17/2009, -1/+9Yeah, what does Apple not understand? Netbooks are selling like crazy, and Apple's sales are slowing. If their solution is to make larger, more expensive notebooks, then we can pretty much write Apple off. Their desktop line is 2 years behind the times, and now they're giving up on the portable market, too?
I guess they were right to drop "Computer" from their corporate name. They could be dominating right now, and instead it seems like they're determined to undo the progress they made over the last 8 years. They're really showing that they don't understand the PC hardware world. - Platypus3333, on 01/17/2009, -1/+9What the hell people, now we push Apple rumors that are literally described as being from Chinese language blogs with "debatable track records" to the front page?
- factsahoy, on 01/17/2009, -2/+9Then buy one of the dozens of $400 Intel Atom-based systems out there. $2000 for a crippled machine?
DUMB. - reidmangel, on 01/18/2009, -0/+6How about an 8 hour battery on a macbook?
- riskybeats, on 01/17/2009, -1/+7And yet it will somehow cost more than the other models.
- Iggins, on 01/17/2009, -0/+5MAC MINI!! YEARGH! I'll admit, i've been an apple fan since i was born, but the way they're keeping the Mac Mini in a state of limbo is ludicrous.
- inactive, on 01/17/2009, -0/+5Why don't they release a 10" Macbook air? Do I have to keep my MSi U100 for now?
- unclejimbo88, on 01/17/2009, -3/+8So it'll be even more useless? The thing isn't any more portable than a normal laptop. I'm not sure who they're marketing this towards, you can't use it in places you can a netbook, but it's not powerful enough to be a real notebook....
- mattsx, on 01/17/2009, -0/+5I agree with your argument, but I digg you down for lack of presentation.
- jakk, on 01/17/2009, -0/+5Holy crap, a BLOG said that?
It *must* be true! - clockdist, on 01/18/2009, -0/+4I disagree. The thing that makes the MBA great is you portability and weight-reduction without sacrificing screen size. It's one of the reasons the iPhone is a hit.
- cyberdork, on 01/18/2009, -1/+5Dude, I'm an Apple fanboy and I am considering paying a couple hundred bucks for a Dell Mini9 just to install OSX on it. They actually managed to get everything running on that little thing. WiFi, sound, Bluetooth, sleep mode.

Pretty cool! - solidsnake1298, on 01/17/2009, -0/+4The problem isn't that they're not making netbooks, but the whole point of the Macbook Air is SMALLER AND THINNER.
- bjornski, on 01/17/2009, -0/+4And I would die laughing if you held it up to your ear for a call.
- inactive, on 01/17/2009, -1/+5I'll buy 2!
- dreamincode, on 01/17/2009, -1/+5We want a $600 Macbook Air with even more lame specs than the first.
- Bauer22, on 01/17/2009, -0/+4You forgot...
6. iPhone Nano (Thought that could be in with 4)
7. Mac Mini's with aluminum casings.
8. Apple TV with updated processors
9. iTablet
10. iNetBook.
And don't get me started on the Steve Jobs rumors. - crowbar77, on 01/17/2009, -0/+3Wouldn't this cut into macbook pro sales? Personally i can't see it happening, the whole idea of the air is portability and a bigger screen just doesn't make sense.
- inactive, on 01/18/2009, -0/+3The Air isn't a netbook. It might be light and relatively small but it isn't a netbook.
- clockdist, on 01/18/2009, -0/+3The MBA has the form factor of a netbook and the power of notebook.
Don't confuse the absence of ports with the absence of power...the MBA has plenty of power. - diggimator, on 01/18/2009, -0/+3Or an 8 hour battery on a MacBook Air? Even if that adds an extra few pounds, it would make sense from a portability perspective.
- Linh, on 01/17/2009, -4/+7the Air isn't useless, it's just too damned expensive for what it is.. which is essentially a full sized netbook.
- inactive, on 01/17/2009, -3/+6You're not a huge fan of the macbook air, but you still think its '***** awesome?' I'm betting that you find apple products you are a huge fan of just plain *****.
- cyberdork, on 01/18/2009, -1/+4And an even bigger border around the display!
Seriously, am I the only one who thinks:
PowerBook 12" = sexy
MacBook 13" = sexy
MacBook Air = toyish... looks best with the lid down. - bjornski, on 01/17/2009, -0/+3Saw her last videos.
She wouldn't know what to do with it if she did get one. - Phatlip012, on 01/18/2009, -1/+4Um. How exactly is their desktop line 2 years behind the times?
- rendan66, on 01/17/2009, -0/+3I agree with mattsx
- matt.rubin, on 01/17/2009, -1/+4nah, they are not. Who are they trying to market to if they did?
Macbook Air- Mobility
Macbook- Affordable
Macbook pro - Top of the line
Larger macbook air - ? (it ain't portable and it ain't affordable and it ain't fast) - ethana2, on 01/17/2009, -0/+3I'd be glad to see it. Optical drives are on their way out; with how frequently I use mine, I'd sure love if it was extrernal and it had more battery instead. I'd love to see a 15" MBP with a matte screen and the optical drive removed for more battery and thinness; I wouldn't be surprised to find that that's what this turns out to be.
- roxgod666, on 01/17/2009, -1/+4Since the new macbooks are already thin, light and portable, look identical, and has double the features but half the cost. I must ask, what the ***** is the point of this thing anymore?
- MacParrot, on 01/18/2009, -1/+3A good friend of mine in the UK put OS X on an MSI Wind. I was really hoping he was going to Macworld just so I could play with it a bit. Apple should not ignore the Netbook market and no the MacBook Air is not a reasonable facsimile.
- puzzud, on 01/18/2009, -1/+3I don't think Apple wants to release something that is considered underpowered though. Netbooks, although I love them, have this fatal flaw--Apple doesn't want that kind of reputation. I am surprised they still sell iPod shuffles.
- crowbar77, on 01/17/2009, -3/+5It is practical for some, most people don't need the portability but its still nice to have if you do for instance a lot of walking around campus. And really who uses their dvd drive anymore, at least on a daily basis?
- Macintoshreader, on 01/18/2009, -0/+2"7. Mac Mini's with aluminum casings."
I think you've been living in a cave for quite some years now. The Mac mini, since it was introduced in 2005, has been made mostly out of aluminum. The only plastic parts are where the ports are and the top. - JerodSlay, on 01/17/2009, -0/+2the thing about size of laptops isn't really how thick they are or how much they weigh, it's their width and length. I don't see why people buy airs when they weigh a little less and are a little thinner than macbooks, but are the same length and width.
- Twee, on 01/18/2009, -0/+2I was thinking the same thing.
- inactive, on 01/18/2009, -0/+2i might have in Zimbabwe dollars
- rimantas, on 01/18/2009, -0/+2Apple's sales are slowing? [citation needed]
Selling truckloads of cheap netbooks with zero margin does not look like solution to me. - TVarmy, on 01/18/2009, -1/+3I want bigger and thinner. I want a MacBook Air that doubles as a wakeboard.
- MacParrot, on 01/18/2009, -0/+2I can see why some people might want a MacBook Air for it's light weight and portability plus a near full-size screen as compared to netbooks, but how freaking hard would it be to do both?
