- McMultiverse, on 10/12/2007, -5/+65"With the high pricing already on the older models"
Wait, what? The MacBooks and iMacs are VERY reasonably priced. They're not the cheapest computers around, but hardly unreasonably expensive. - rogersmj, on 10/12/2007, -1/+48@doodlebumm, what in the HELL are you talking about? The iMac is not a laptop, moron. To be witty, you have to be smart first.
- irchs, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3423" iMac sounds very sweet, let's hope for no chin on the 23" :)
- moracity, on 10/12/2007, -1/+30Since the day this site started?
- dustinhoffman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+27The funny thing is... if no one posted rumors on Digg... it would be running on a 486 in Kevin's closet...
- caliform, on 10/12/2007, -5/+26People, like my friend above me, please see that the iMac is NOT A NOTEBOOK, but the desktop line of computers... heh...
Anyways, I'd like to see some pictures! - thatsmyaibo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18@doodle
and in the event we were talking about a laptop (not a desktop imac the article is talking about), i use my ibook g4 laptop at school and with the screen dimmed lasts me near 6 hours...
i use both mac and pc. you should try using a mac before slamming one. - jgreene777, on 10/12/2007, -14/+30a 23" notebook computer? do you have 30" biceps?
- mingistech, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17ehh who cares..... this one has more diggs. :)
- Kakaze, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15Maybe they'll finally add a TV tuner to it and bill it as the new Macintosh TV.
- jshapiro, on 10/12/2007, -18/+32Gandubhalla. You sir, are dumb.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14If this is true I'll be selling my very, very young iMac Core Duo 17" to get the 23" model. That would be awesome - let's hope they add better graphics to cope with the higher resolutions.
- Lucid, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14The word "RUMOR" should really be included in this.
- Ireland, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Where did you get that 19" iMac, cause Apple only sells 17" or 20" iMac's?
http://www.apple.com/imac (I would have linked to the store, but that times-out) - Ireland, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13"Fake" It's a bleedin' mock-up!!
- jcdickerson, on 10/12/2007, -5/+15Hmm. I ordered an IMac on the 23rd and it was suppossed to ship yesterday and arrive today. Two days ago the status online pushed the date back to ship the 8th and arrive on the 13th. My spider-sense started tingling - I remember reading similar shipment delays of Apple products just before a new model goes out - and so I canceled the order, citing the delay (I only customized one thing, and it delayed shipment for weeks? Sorry, I'm patient but not THAT patient). Then, ONE DAY LATER I read this (and since it's AppleInsider I think it's legit). It may have just been a coincidence, but I think there may be some managers at Apple who have decided to put less priority on iMac shipments (knowing a nerw model will be coming) and more priority on servicing the back-to-school laptop sales (as I guess there is not a new version of the MacBook coming until January at the earliest). Anyway, If this is true, I'll be ordering the new faster IMac in time for my birthday.
- bleonard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8You could always buy a 2.33GHz Merom, open up your 20" iMac, void your warranty, and swap it with the Yonah.
- THEMACGOD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8The only way to buy a Mac is when the new model is announced... if you wait at all, you'll be one of the ones saying, "I just bought a Mac! Why'd they release an update already?"
- madcrasher, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11Agreed. As it, the story's inaccurate. (And don't say any idiot can tell; my brother just ran up the stairs telling me about the "new iMacs Apple announced.")
- hotdamn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8attn: everyone complaining about "battery life":
the iMac is not a portable. - mywhitenoise, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7this is just a rumor so far. Apple didn't publicly "PLAN" to do this.
- sithmat, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Yes, God has answered my pleas!!!
I've been waiting on getting a new iMac for far too long. All the rumours and hints dropping left and right convinced me that I should put off the short term pleasure of a beautiful Intel iMac for the long term pleasure of a more beautiful Intel iMac.
And it's just a few weeks late for school. Not bad at all. - Nightspark, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6"... insiders say Merom's lower power requirements and reduced heat dissipation are better suited for the iMac's sleek and ultra-compact industrial design."
- mingistech, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6u just answered your own question.
- Kajico, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Are G5s selling alright on E-bay? I've been debating selling my dual 2.7 G5 to get it replaced by an iMac
- inturnaround, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7It's not an economy line. This is their flagship consumer product.
- DoctorDuckey, on 10/12/2007, -9/+14Expect a reduced chin on the 23"--
- McMultiverse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Agreed. Not just with Apple stories like this, but all "rumor" stories. I know a lot of people do it for increased interest in their submissions, but we should all make an effort to self-editorialize and have our submissions reflect an accurate level of confirmation.
- 1010011010, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Apple has a monopoly on Apple products? Say it ain't so!
I'll bet you're going to tell me that John Deere has a monopoly on John Deere products next! - slantyyz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5The best thing about the Intel socketed Macs (desktops only, notebooks are soldered) compared to the old PPC Macs is the fact that you can replace the chips, since they're socketed. The downside is that Apple made the Mini and iMac more difficult on the end-user serviceability side, so you'll have to exercise a lot of caution opening the cases and putting them back together.
Once the Meroms go down a bit further in price, I'll probably make the effort to replace the chips in my Intel Macs.
At least you don't have to rely on some overpriced add-on card to upgrade your CPUs now. - carpeicthus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7This is my solemn vow, fellow Diggers: I will buy a 23-inch iMac less than 10 seconds after it is announced, if this is true. Gotta get my button-pressing fingers in shape first.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6It ain't going to go up in value, that's for sure (well, maybe in 15-25 years, but in the shortterm, no.)
- adezero, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5does a bigger screen really make it a new computer? it's still the intel imac
- mccarron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I came here to post that same comment. The word rumor would go in place perfectly it various places in this article and heading, and then it would be okay.
- atommclain, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4And as long as were talking about it, Apples economy computer is the Mac Mini.
- skribble, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Don't confuse "consumer" with "economy", Apple certainly doesn't :)
Seriously though, *if* this story is true Apple will cut the prices so the 23" comes in under $2000 (Maybe $1699, but possibly higher). Also it may make sense that then the lower end would come in at a smooth $999. - rickcarson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I got a mac mini (as a semi portable) and then later on when I wasn't moving around a 20 inch cinema display.
Then had massive buyers remorse, since the 20 inch iMac available at that time was basically the same price as a 20inch display + a mini, but you'd also 'for free' get a bigger hard drive, gruntier graphics card... and a G5 instead of a G4.
The G4 mac mini was okay. I still use it as a gaming machine. The performance is acceptable.
Now that they are both using the same chipset... it is a much closer match. I think the 20inch intel iMac still edges out the intel mini + display combo in terms of features.
One of the really nice things about the iMac is that if you splash the cash for the airport base station, and use a bluetooth mouse + keyboard, then you only have 1 cord to worry about, the power cord. I contrast this with my non-wireless mini, which can have 10+ cords floating around. Very messy, especially on a small desk. - skellener, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I WANT A 23" IMAC!!
- kingkilr, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5You sell yourself as a news provider by claiming facts and then being right, not by saying maybe this maybe that, stop whining that it's just a rumor.
- jkc120, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4So why Merom and not Conroe? Perhaps to keep the heat down in the case? Or to keep things closer to the portable line of products?
- gonano, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@Topher06 wrong information
The iMac does not use a mobile graphics card. It uses the ATI Radeon X1600 which is a PCI Express card. Also the iMac does not use a mobile hard drive. You can even have a 500GB hard drive in the current iMacs. - KSUdesigner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@ hotdamn...
Apple doesn't do subscriptions in itunes, I doubt they'll do subscriptions with movies. - KSUdesigner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3That would be called the mac pro.
- inturnaround, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Well, good, because this isn't the first-gen Intel iMac. :)
- RedBear, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Oddly enough, a co-worker was at Best Buy last week, and some salesman there told him that Apple was coming out with a 24" iMac in the near future. I told him he was crazy, and to never trust a thing anyone from Best Buy tells you...it'd be ironic if he was right...even if he was off by an inch.
- Stecchino, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Although AppleInsider is consider a "reputable" rumor site, to be more accurate when the submitters post them on Digg there SHOULD be a '?' at the end of some of their article headlines.
- ronaldpoi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It's all about the story name... say "23-inch new iMac" and you're done...
- Vermifax, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"Mac Pro is for people that don't care about money."
Hmmmm. Professionals not caring about...........money.
Since when...!? - bleonard, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3You want a mac with a TV Tuner? check out these bad boys:
http://www.retrotechnology.com/herbs_stuff/m_power.html#6400
My roomate got one for free a few months ago with all kinds of ideas and its still in his closet lol. - KSUdesigner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The Mac Pro is geared toward professionals, not the average home user. Sales of the Mac Pro will hardly have any effect on iMac sales, as the computers are each geared toward a different audience.
