- imdwalrus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Anyone else remember the "real" iPod video stories from a few weeks back? Don't believe this until Apple announces it themselves.
Besides...the iPod Video's battery life is too short to handle movies. It could be stored on the iPod, sure, but watching it? Forget about it. Mine was almost dead after a 48 minute Buffy episode; there's not much chance of it handling a two hour film. - thekurst, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0umm isn't this a regular rumor of their event this week?
- jord, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0... I don't have any issues watching a 2 1/2 hour movie on one battery charge...
imdwalrus I think you have a defective battery
( and Omdurman :) ) - jord, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0imdeggman is what that last note was suppose to be.. damn spell check
- ScottMaximus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0My Cowon has a 7 Hour Battery life playing Video...and a 4" Screen......and accepts OGG, Xvid, Divx, and Asf......I drink your DRM'd tears.
- joshuapchase, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1it would be worth my time...and money to be able to download a full length movie instead of having to wait for the torrent
- TROGDOR42, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Apple[Unnecesary comma] is preparing to launch a film download service."
Anydangway, there's an event scheduled for the 28th, wonder when they would announce something of this caliber? ;) - Protoss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0My PSP has well..I never calculated the battery life, but I did watch 2 full length movies with the brightness all the way up and it still came out with only 25% of the battery drained.
- stridey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0What's the source on this? The original article has a lot of Thinksecret quotes, and we all know how reliable that is. Not dugg on the grounds of unbased rumors.
- DeckardRep, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is a second hand rumor. It may turn out to be true in a couple of days, but it's not true yet.
- Jeffrey903, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I also have over 2 hours on my "video" iPod (and I have the 30GB edition). I once watched the entire Family Guy movie (88 minutes) and a family guy TV episode (22 minutes - which totals almost 2 hours) on a full charge and still had some battery left. I would still like twice that battery life, but at least I got what Apple advertised.
- yobkeeg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I am curious how long it will take for someone to download a full length movie off the iTunes service. I really don't think Apple will offer this service to the Public this soon! There are just too many technical issues to workout before a product/service of this type can be introduced. Apple is shooting for a good consumer experience. Quite simply put, the market is not really ready for it! Just how long it took them to offer a video capable ipod.
- Ozmotear, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1How is this story different from...
http://digg.com/apple/iTunes_MOVIE_Store_may_Finally_be_introduced_during_Feb_28_Event
It was posted by the same person 3 days ago. - schadenfreude52, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1just 1.5 days, guys. you can wait that long.
- stryker36, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0If it is as crappy as their tv show videos, no thanks.
- CLIFFosakaJAPAN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@Ozmotear...."How is this story different from...(prior post by same person)"
I submitted this "Rumor" again because it comes from a more reputible source.... - lgc90, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0When using my 60GB 5G, (which has longer battery life than the 30GB) I have watched a 3 hour movie (obviously w/ backlight) and had around half of the battery life still left.
- BassCadet, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I only support this if somebody can easily convert the video to be watched on a computer and then bittorrented for normal people to watch.
- illegal_op, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0is it really that much of a reach? cmon, it's the next step.

I would assume that is due to its flash storage system as opposed to a hd. - trogdoor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If Apple does do this there is a very good chance that the video will only work on the ipod and also a very good chance that, for a time, they will be the only ones licenced to sell downloadable movies. And since the MPAA / RIAA ect think it is not fair use to rip an unprotected cd to an mp3 player. And the only way to put movies on other portable players would be to ripp them from the DVD, wich requires breking the encription wich alone violates the digital millenium copywrite act. If Apple did this, would the iPod be the only device that one could legally watch downloaded movies on?
- Kazaki, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Device? Probably. But you'll also be able to watch the video on your PC, which in turn could be routed to a TV.
- RadicalBender, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I like how they're implying it will happen on Tuesday without explicitly saying so, thus deftly disguising their pure rumor and conjecture as fact with an escape clause if it doesn't happen. Brilliant bit of writing.
Anyhow, if Apple doesn't announce a new iPod on Tuesday, there will almost certainly not be a movie store opening. The current iPods are very, very close on battery life for a full-length feature film, but they could die towards the end, especially for longer movies. Apple will need more of a battery life cushion in the iPod before they start releasing movies. Hard drive space will also be a concern because movies will suck up a significant portion of hard drive space. I mean, one movie is like, what, 12 CDs?
Anyways, I wrote about this at length previously. (Yeah, I pimped it in the last article about it, but whatever - it still applies.)
http://itvs.wordpress.com/2006/02/04/commentary-will-itunes-ever-carry-movies/ - jk_baller23, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0hmmm, "as early as this week", how about this tuesday??? Can't wait to see what is going to be announced by apple this tuesday.
- wastern, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1SHUT UP......GOD
every time there is an apple event there are 10,000 people claiming to have info, and no one knows anything. and everytime i get ***** sick of hearing about.....wait until tuesday....then talk. jesus christ
i'm as big an apple fan as the next guy, i'm typing on one right now. but every news story contradicts the next one, its obvious no one knows. of course someone is going to be right as every possible thing has been mentioned, but just relax and wait 2 more days - adam84a, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I have a 30GB 5G iPod, and I agree that it would be stretching it a little to try to watch a full movie (however, I'm sure that the 60GB could at least last one movie since it has a larger battery). But if Apple is seriously doing this, it probably doesn't have much to do with the iPod, it probably is just more of a statement of their commitment to becoming a media provider for more than just music for your iPod. Even though I would probably not likely purchase a movie from ITMS unless they increase their quality, I am all for more players in this industry because it will lead to the switch from physical media to downloaded media.
- Ozmotear, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Back @ Cliff... "I submitted this "Rumor" again because it comes from a more reputable source...."
Fair enough, I retract my earlier statement. - kalisphoenix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is a ***** stupid article. Look at how poorly it's written:
"There is also talk that Apple is planning the launch of an Apple-branded hi-fi that will enable iPod users to dock their iPod music player into a device that will then turn the compact digital music player into a fully-fledged hi-fi that will enable them to share their music collection in the living room, the kitchen or at the beach."
I think that says all that needs to be said about this retarded source. I'm sick of idiot journalists reading rumor sites and regurgitating it, implying that it is their own research. - hutch113, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Called this over a month ago.
http://spartanedge.com/blogs/spartanedge12/?p=7 - macewan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm impressed easily & believe what people tell me so - digg
- beerluber, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I hope this is true.
- Vinnie87, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It'll happen sooner or later...but who wants to watch a movie on an ipod screen? 5inch portable DVD player any day.
- Refrag, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0My Cowon is huge
- jonnyeh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's just a matter of time. If not this week, then some later time Apple will offer movies. They already have a 'virtual' monopoly on movie trailers, not much of a stretch to offer the movies themselves.
HD movies would be super sweet, it would be like kicking both Sony and Microsoft in the balls. - KriLL3.2™, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wow that site renders horribly with Firefox... sheesh.
- luke--, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0ill be so happy when this comes out
- MattH, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Of course iPod has to announce a Movie service with Peer impact and its NBCUniversal Movie Download service to launch later in March and AOL will Lauch In2TV in March .Its Launch a Movie in March or be left behind

by the way anyone know where Mashboxx is :P. - wankey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Funny how people's opinions are now news. Gotta stop reading this site.
- Jozer99, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Well, they obviously have to release a new iPod then. Everyone knows the current iPod's video cababilities are pretty half assed (2 hour battery life?!?!?). No way you could watch a movie with that.
- ross., on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Besides...the iPod Video's battery life is too short to handle movies."
Yeah the CURRENT iPod's...new iPod? The iPod Movie...mPod? lol - LeFrenzy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0once again, a digg about a rumor.
- sencha5, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The current iPods were never designed to handle movies, and there's no drive-based (not removable memory) PMP in the market that can handle more than 6-7 hours on a movie on full brightness. Apple would never introduce a service where none of its mobile devices can handle the load.
That said...
If it is in fact true, it would be based around the iMac/Mac Mini as a home media centre using front row. Nobody wants to watch a 1.5" version of ROTK in 4:3. on their iPod. They probably would, however, want to watch it on their 20" iMac screen quite easily using front row. I prefer to watch full-length movies on a 17" widescreen laptop rather than on a television, so to me that seems like a logical course of action. - fliped, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0People keep talking about not being able to watch the movies on the iPod because of the small screen and short battery life etc. etc..... but what about plugging it into an HDTV and watching it from there???
