Also, I think Steve Jobs will be announcing his new religion: iGod
Yes/No? - cvp1, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17It's likely to be something related to Final Cut Studio 6. They wouldn't announce consumer products at a professional trade show.
- danielwsmithee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10An update to iTunes will come as soon as Apple TV ships.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10I care, I just kinda get sick of the "Random Chinese Manufacturer says Apple ordered 5M Pizza's, Apple Restraunt coming soon?" stories that come up all the time before an important apple announcement.
- Naga10, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Well, I don't mind 7.0. At least on Macs. On Windows, it's horrible.
But every new major release of iTunes has come with new iPods, so I'm willing to bet we'll see iTunes 7.5 or 8.0 with the iPhone, as I doubt new iPods will come before then. - joelgilbert, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Oh yeah, sorry. There is more.
Apple also purchase Silicon Touch who make a colour correction plugin/app for FCP. Expect to see this bundled into Studio.
They also purchased Artbox who make a video/audio/docs asset management application. It ties in with Xsan = lots more hardware sales - admanimal, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8The 17" Macbook pro was released at NAB last year...
- Gm7Cadd9, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Whatever it is they announce, hardware/software they will likely have to announce Leopard first... not saying that it will be a Leopard exclusive, but Apple is the type of company to make sure it works with the latest and greatest as well as the previous system.
I think this is why we are seeing such a delay in 10.4.9. I am sure it is all but ready to go, but pending a few announcements they would be out of room for updates. 10.4.9.1 anyone? I didn't think so.
NAB = pro hardware and software
see also: no phone, no ipod, nothing to do with ilife/itunes whatsoever
Among the crazy speculation I say Final Cut Studio 6, and if Final Cut Extreme is ready it will come bundled with an 8-core macpro with Blu-ray and all that good stuff. Final Cut Extreme just begs to integrate Logic and Shake, make them a real contender against Avid/digi - cvp1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6The MacBook Pro is admittedly more of a consumer product, however even that is targeted to video creators (NAB's audience) and professionals in other creative industries. Pro is in the name for a reason!
- raynevandunem, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Why is everyone suggesting that Apple is announcing a software product? I've never known them to do that without introducing a hardware product in tow.
When they announce a new version of Mac OS X, they announce a new Mac mini/iMac/Macbook/etc.
When they announce a new iTunes, they also announce a new iPod nano/shuffle/etc.
I don't think they've ever announced a new version of a particular application at any particular special event. The hardware always gets first dibs at Apple events. - fxeditor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5It's most likely going to be the replacement for Shake and a new version of FCP.
- zioxide, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4http://www.macrumors.com/2006/06/21/end-of-shake-phenomenon-in-2008/
Shake is being discontinued as we know it, and they're coming out with an all new product next year. - zioxide, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Leopard has already been announced, they just haven't announced a ship date for it. But we all know Leopard is coming sometime in the next few months.
Even if FC6 is Leopard only, they can still announce it and then just say its shipping when Leopard starts shipping.
As far as I've heard, Apple is discontinuing Shake at least for now, so it probably won't include that, and Logic is for music authoring, not video authoring. Soundtrack Pro is for audio editing for video. - zioxide, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It's going to be Final Cut Studio 6, maybe Mac Pro and Cinema Display revisions, and maybe the rumored "Final Cut Extreme" edit suite.
No iLife, no iWork, no ultraportable laptops or iMac *****. It's National Association of Broadcasters, so its going to be something related to video.
Also, they released the 17'' Macbook Pro last year, which is considered a 'professional' product. There will be no consumer products released at this event. Also, the fact that it has been two years since Final Cut Studio 5 makes the chances even higher that this event will bring FCS 6. - FreeiPodGuy.com, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Wow. I'm a fanboy, and you're even creeping ME out.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Who gets personally offended by Apple product announcements? Sensitive Microsofties aside...
- MacParrot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2OS 8.7 is waaaay too buggy to get right now. Wait for the 8.7.1 release
- NewChar, on 10/12/2007, -6/+8Take your pants off, less mess.
- colincsl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Isn't the new Shake-like program not supposed to come out until 2008?
- danielwsmithee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2None of those will be released at NAB if it is not related to profesional video editing it will not be released there. Think 8 core Mac Pro, Final Cut Studio updates, or even a MBP based on the new Santa Rosa chipset (800 MHZ FSB, more max ram).
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Here we go again!
- jialuolu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1New cinema displays, please
- superkendall, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Before NAB though, Apple is going to be at PMA next week - hopefully with some interesting news to be had.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Please god let's get Xsan more stable -- the care and feeding is off the charts!
- anamanaman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Its gotta be an update to the Mac Pro. They've been rumoring that for months, and it intel has new chips out. Hopefully we'll see some macbook pro laptop updates too though.
- Deuterium, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Type I or II diabetes cure? Since most Apple users are overweight and have REALLY poor diets I'd guess they're hoping it's a Type II cure.
- joelgilbert, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5It will be Final Cut Studio 6, that's for sure. Maybe Logic 8/mysterious new sound app as well. Anything else will be a bonus!
Last I heard they sold 500,000 copies of Final Cut Studio 5 at £799/$1299 each! - nogami, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Apple always announces a new product, always has a big display, and it's always in the south hall right across from Avid.
Not really news, it's the same deal every year. - nfxmedia, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2They didn't discontinue Shake, they lowered the price to increase the adoption rate. Expect an upgrade at NAB.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Widescreen 80gb flash iPod with wifi, please.
- themastersb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Hopefully Leopard will be out this month
- zaren, on 10/12/2007, -7/+7Bears repeating, apparently.
- synagence, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5Oh well ... 6 weeks of wild and manic speculation will commence...
- marthabrow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I can't believe it! What an epatage!
- imthe1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1@itsme92: ya, an unusual amount of buried comments.
- pixelbender, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Get over yourselves people. My comment to the above response was a witty line from a huge Mac fanboy, myself. Apparently I'm not that big of one because all the others immediately thought I was saying something "evil" or "negative" about or make fun of Apple. Grow up and get out of your basement.
- itsme92, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4Um, this event is in April. I'll bet there will be a new version of iTunes out by the end of this month.
btw, is it just me, or does this thread have a ton of buried comments? - wem003, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Guess I mistook your comment for sarcasm. I understand your point - but the flipside it always feels like we are real close to seeing a "Steve Jobs takes a dump" article get to the front page - without buying votes....
Hard to filter good articles and digg spam. With this, now we will have another 6 weeks of "Oooo....what could it be?" - motravo, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2my money's on the long-awaited announcement of Mac OS 8.7
- tsunamisteve, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Leopard will already be out by NAB.
- mobilehavoc, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1Oh god, I think I'm going to avoid Digg after every Apple event...all the Apple fanboys on here are going to flood Digg with Apple stories about what was released and more speculation ***** about what will happen next.
- Xerodog, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2I guarantee it's going to be the phoneless, touch-screen iPod to be released by November.
- IntellEJent, on 10/12/2007, -8/+3My guess is either iLife, iTunes, or (Apple)TV. Either way, I don't think Leopard will be there; they will probably wait as long as they can for that. Plus, iLife was already supposed to be released. One has to wonder...
- mrSimon, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1National Association of Broadcasters?
I do hope its an international video store. Thats long overdue. - MacParrot, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1You're both wrong. Apple's new faith will be called "Religimon"
- jessestay, on 01/21/2009, -8/+2I'm sure it will at least be the new iTunes, which they said would be released a couple weeks after Vista's launch (since the current version is horrible).
- OneManArmy, on 10/12/2007, -10/+4WTF??!!
- mlw4428, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1I think you meant Jobs will be saying "I'm God."
