- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Its the friggin "?"
Digg should auto-bury any story title with a question mark. - joe90210, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9ThinkSecret hasn't had an accurate rumour in a very long time
- rebotfc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5You can say anything with a "?"

- thehans, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I guess you don't see the irony in commenting on news that you don't find newsworthy.
- krakelohm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3How is this becoming for compatable with Microsoft? How does Microsoft even come into play on this?
- jhuebel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I can't justify digging this, simply for the reason that the average consumer could care less about Blu-ray and HD-DVD. Whether Apple supports Blu-ray, HD-DVD or both is completely inconsequential.
- threepio, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Microsoft is a member of the HD-DVD group. They asssisted in building the software that runs the backend and are supporting it for the Xbox 360.
- dvddesign, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Duh?
When I'm exporting in Final Cut Pro, I have export options for HD DVD already. Isn't this the same thing essentially? Granted you can't burn them on the drive, but if you're looking for "support" , this is the key support that the "people" in the article refers to, are going to want. - dvddesign, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Threepio, congrats on being completely irrelevant to the discussion.
Apple adopting HD-DVD would have no impact or partnerships in mind with MS. Several studios cross support formats now, and they don't lend "allegiance" to any brand of DVD player or hokum along those lines.
There's no conspiracy here, move along. Boot Camp is to sell people on a good computer to wean them off of being abused by Microsoft for so long. It's not to make Apple "more like MS" - krakelohm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1They do to an extent. That perceived notion of being backed or supported by a influential company does not hurt by any means.
- gluckman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Jihad on ThinkSecret
- thehans, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3 I believe this is good news. I initially was all in favor of Blu-Ray, that was until I lost all trust in Sony. With this news I think my support now goes to HD-DVD, it is a more broadly excepted format.
- Bega, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2well considering laptops have been at widescreen 'hd' resolutions for a couple of years now, I think it would be a bit interesting to see if they start putting the new drives in the macbooks/pros. Especially since apple doesn't offer nearly that many customizable options.
- krakelohm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Thats ok, obviously they will still support DVD's for years to come.
- DrunkMonk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's HD DVD not HD-DVD, no hyphen.
- nacharya, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1it would make sense though, they obviously prefer blu-ray, but with MS and Intel supporting the other side they may find it harder to to support both windows on future hardware
- Pharaoh777, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yes, both BluRay players and HD DVD players can play all DVD and CD formats. Personally, I will not buy a new laptop until there is an OSX compatible external dual layer BluRay burner for a reasonable price available (I need the extra drive bay for dual hard drives).
- superkendall, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well there's no detail at all so it's hard to say what Apple is doing that leads to this conclusion.
However I could easily see the Apple DVD Studio Pro supporting both HD-DVD and also Blu-Ray, while Apple computers might still only ship with Blu-Ray drives. The only question would be the authoring tools supporting Microsoft's menuing language on HD-DVD. - markgl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1why the hell not? Might as well support everything!!! right? If you pick and choose a side, if you pick the wrong side, then everyone will crap on you for picking the loser when you didn't even know at the time that blue ray or hd dvd was the loser or winner. Might as well do both and cover you apple.
- HappyScrappy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Wrong. HD-DVD has only Toshiba backing it for hardware. It has only Universal backing it for conent.
BluRay has all the other manufacturers and studios. - carcrazy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That's what I would do. Think about it, the people who support both are going to be the ones who make money. Why buy something that supports only blu-ray if you can buy something that supports both? This should work for them if they keep prices reasonable.
- martindale, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Sounds like a stratagetic move to me... another motion (BootCamp?) to become more compatible with Microshaft.
- generalleoff, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0chalk one more up for the lack of the so called "format war".
- grow, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0This is going to be a nightmare for the next couple years.
- bradleyland, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Funny you should say that. Earlier, I bookmarked a bunch of Digg articles for reading later. When i went back to look at them, it looks like I should have named the bookmark folder "20 Questions with Digg."
- TimothyStickles, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0They'll have to support both to some degree for the sake of staying competitive with DVD Studio Pro. But, like someone else said, the survival of either format doesn't depend in any way on Apple's support.
- SSCrow, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1I can't imagine how much a G5 would cost with a Blu-ray and HD-DVD drive built in.
Good god. - ibeetle, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Have they ever been right on anything?
They did not even spell HD DVD right. There is no hyphen.
