- Blizzardman, on 10/12/2007, -5/+27Under any other circumstance I would be in agreement with you. But in the article it states how:
"People familiar with the matter say development of Core 2 Duo versions of all three models -- the 13-inch MacBook, 15-inch MacBook Pro and 17-inch MacBook Pro -- are now complete and all that's left is for Apple marketing to pull the trigger."
This means that no more development is needed and they are just sitting on their hands... - guytoronto, on 10/12/2007, -5/+21I'm a big Mac supporter. I love Macs.
BUT
I'm getting really sick and tired of every day logging onto Digg to see "Apple set to update iMacs / MacBooks", or "Apple set to release full-screen video iPod", or "Apple iPhone right around the corner", or "Apple PDA in development", or "Apple Bottled Water only weeks away."
When it comes to Apple, everything is rumor until it actually happens. Don't waste my time with these non-news stories. Give me something worthwhile to read. - moofer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14Here's my advice. Take that Macbook and enjoy it for what it is. An awesome machine. Just because a new one is coming out, doesn't make yours any slower. Take that rig to a coffee shop, have a nice latte, and light up the ladies in the glow of the apple on the lid. Make them all jealous, for you have chosen wisely.
- Jeffrey903, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13I think it does too. Now that Apple has successfully moved all of their computers over to Intel processors, they can start rolling out the new designs. They supposedly didn't want to change the look of them when they made the switch to Intel because they wanted to emphasize that they were still the same computer. Now that everyone knows that it's not true (they are better), they can start releasing some newly designed computers.
Although I have a MBP and would be a little ticked off when they release a new one that is a good step better than mine (for the same price I paid), it happens.
I think that the MBP design is really nice, but it has just been around for too long. - adamkmccarthy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11i don't think intel are to blame. dell have been shipping core 2 chips in its latitude and inspiron lines for a couple of weeks now. are the core 2s going to make the already hot running mbp run hotter again?
- commitone, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14MBP needs a new enclosure. IMO, it is still the best design from all the notebooks out there. It is also the oldest product design in their current line of computers. I predict a black anodized aluminum enclosure for the next MBP.
- friend18, on 10/12/2007, -5/+15oh god dammit I just bought a macbook. >:(
- nonsequitor, on 10/12/2007, -7/+14They aren't "just" sitting on their hands. I think Intel is to blame rather than Apple on this one. Apple is ready, but Intel can't supply the required quantity of Core 2 Duo chips for both the iMacs and both MacBook lines.
- Ireland, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Whatever color they choose, I hope to God they have the sense to put the MacBook's keyboard and magnetic latch on the new Pro books, cause both of those things are really rather cool!
- Ireland, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Why did you ever use it? That's what everyone says before they use it. It was designed for usability, that's why some think it looks odd.. "why it looks like an 80's calculator, I bet it's terrible to use. Let me give is a little go, wait a second, oh my this is great, thank you apple, thank you!!" But 2 minutes ago you thought it was horrible? "Forget all that, I didn't know what I was talking about. That was before I used it" Oh, in that case you're makine perfect sense ;)
- OnlyShawn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5just don't buy your ram from apple. problem solved. datamem.com
- aprocter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5There's a lot of people that (suprisingly) don't know this, but you can activate right "clicking" on the trackpad, just tap with two fingers. You can also make it so you leave two fingers on the trackpad and press the button, which right clicks too.
- Zippo, on 10/12/2007, -9/+14T'would be nice if Apple were to be fixin' up their pretty swag a tad earlier. I knows of a lot of landlubbers who be acquirin' ta Christmas booty 'round this time of year.
Granted, such pretty swag be costin' quite a bit of gold. - dturner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4For those of you that don't know already, September 19th is the official talk like a pirate day. If you don't believe me google it... I'm too lazy to find the link.
- thatbox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4You had to have known that the internet has been frothing with demand and speculation and expectation for the past month - you knew what you were doing when got that MacBook. Your punishment for your impatience: more time with an incredible laptop.
- OnlyShawn, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9and yet you're still reading it? :)
- Clodagh, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Ireland speaks the truth my friend, it's a great keyboard.
- ZepFloyd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4the biggest thing is probably the fact that Core 2 Duo is actually a 64bit processor, Core Duo is not. It also supposedly consumes less power with a 10-15% performance increase.
- threemagic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5You expect computer equipment to keep it's value??
- luckyjonny, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5The holiday shopping season? I suppose that's so that you don't confuse it with the time most people take their holidays - summer.
Still, to avoid any chance of confusion, you could always call it Christmas. - rickcarson, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I agree. We need to draw finer distinctions.
Frankly, some blogs are more newsworthy than others. But are any of them anywhere near as newsworthy as real news?
When it comes to Apple, it is even worse, because not only do you have the real news, and the random blog crap, but you also have this third category somewhere in between of links to sites dedicated to Apple rumours in all their flavours.
So you need some kind of multi tiered system.
Then you have the haters, which come in two main varieties:
(1) Wah! Someone said something nice about Apple! Marked as inaccurate!
(2) I'd get a Mac except that they suck because of X
where X is one of a variety of imaginary diseases such as:
- No games
- No decent mice
- Can't use office apps/not enough apps in general
- Too expensive
- Not having lots of viruses is a bad thing and/or OSX security is just the same as Windows anyway (seriously, what planet/drugs are *those* people on?)
etc
Then you have a rare and elusive third category, those who've had a genuinely bad experience with Apple.
Type 1 are just jealous.
Type 2 are compensating for the nagging feeling that all the 'cool kids' (and or nerds) have switched to Apple, and they feel inadequate about their last OS/hardware choice.
Type 3 I sympathise with. Apple ain't perfect. I had a similar experience (probably worse actually :D) with a certain laptop company that recently sold out to the commies, and fully understand the desire to bash them at every opportunity...
So it would be nice to have a separate section to meet the needs (genuine and imaginary) of the Apple haters.
Then we need another section, kind of a middle ground... a 'royal rumble' of Operating Systems and/or hardware manufacturers, a free for all where people try to convert others to their side.
So we'd need about 20 different categories just for Apple alone... oh wait, never mind. - TimSee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I find it really funny that Apple is the last "Intel only" major OEM and they'll be last to market with Merom!
- montreal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3FYI guys, .. I found this note : ” I work for an Apple reseller, and we’ve been having trouble getting new orders for MacBooks and MacBook Pros shipped. All of our pending orders got pushed back to a 9/19 ship date — all of them. If I had to guess, I’d say we’re going to be seeing updated laptops on Monday or Tuesday. Just a hunch… -Joseph “ on that page www.dwblog.net
- Ubermensch423, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3the ds lite was a solid improvement in size and style and brightness over the ds
- 1shawn, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7But that's not politically correct. You don't want those who don't celebrate Christmas on your ass now do you? Christmas is a curse word these days. You can't even say "Christmas tree" without somebody getting offended.
- dizzybastard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3about 10-15% speed increase
- cmallinson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"i'm holding out for a core2 duo MBP"
Why? Core 2 Duo is only slightly faster than what is already in the MBP. There will always be an upgrade around the corner. If you are holding out anyway, get a discounted, or refurbished Core Duo, save yourself several hundred bucks, and put away that money for your next upgrade. - RSkwiat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I hope the MacBook Pro gets the Macbook keyboard but with a lighted keyboard. I love the MBP but i love the MB keyboard and hope that makes it to the MBP
- rickcarson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm hoping for some more power/heat management choices with Leopard. I think I read on digg that people were saying the Apple laptops ran much cooler on the Leopard developer previews.
But that said, my pet peeve with Apple at the moment is that they apparently have a major new version of Objective C coming out soon... but there doesn't seem to be any info available about it. - nextsteposx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2What are the benefits of having a Core 2 Duo Macbook versus a current Macbook with Core Duo?
- TheReport, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6"i don't think intel are to blame. dell have been shipping core 2 chips in its latitude and inspiron lines for a couple of weeks now. "
Thats exactly the reason why Intel can't supply the required quantity of Core 2 Duo chips for both the iMacs and both MacBook lines - moofer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4WAH. Gimme what I want or I'm taking my toys and going home. WAH. Spare me. I'd take a currenet MacBook over any Vaio crap any day. If you need one so bad, go buy one. If you want to wait to have the latest/greatest, by all means, do so. Just don't sit there and cry about it.
- poxonyou, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2God, I hope they used a different "SuperDrive." There are a lot of posts in the forums about it scratching the hell out of disks if the laptop is not completely flat. That's about the only thing holding me back, though I wish they offered the option of using an nVidia card rather than ATI. Yay for (legal) triple booting.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3ARRRRRRGGHHH!!! Dis is just what I need Mateys!
- rakaur, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Oh, thank you, AppleInsider. I was under the impression that Apple was going to update their notebook line, but it might be a while. Thank god you have "learned" this new information.
Seriously, why do people visit these sites? It's like going to get your palm read. - GraceMolloy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4I might as well have the check written. Release the Damned Merom MBPs already!
- moofer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What's to say they haven't addressed any of those issues? Wouldn't a "fix" come in the form of a new hardware release? Your shooting them down for providing what you're asking for.
- Mexrocker, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I guess I'll wait a while to get my macbook now... it's a shame really, I really want a laptop and I really want the macbook but I don't know how much longer I can hold out.
- adiman7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That could be in our favor. Maybe Apple will be forced to keep pace with Intel's processors and will have to release different motherboards to support the new processors and we will finally be able to really create our own Apple system.
Just a happy thought :D - EmmEff, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Nobody seems concerned about the obvious QA and design issues that have plagued both machines. How about Apple fix those first before thinking about releasing new hardware? Seems pretty ballsy to release the hardware fixes with CPU updates. "Sorry you bought a first gen machine, but if you buy a new one, it should be better"
- melmyfinger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Because this "insider info" can save people money and prevent buyer's remorse when they know that Apple has plans to release updated products. To some people its just worth it to hold out a month or so and see if these rumors are for real. Its certainly paid off for me on my past 3 iPods.
The key is not worshipping this info like its a religon. - scaper, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3@ TheReport
How is it Intel's fault that they struck a deal with Dell first? Dell and Apple are both fully aware of Intel's processor production capabilities, it looks to me that Dell just beat Apple to the punch on their order.
I could be totally wrong though, but that's my thoughts on your comment - stmiller, on 10/12/2007, -1/+264bit!!!
- TheRealDeal, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2How are they screwed by having a kick ass machine? Just because a machine with a 64-bit processor that is 10-15 % faster comes out. Will their MB just suddenly stop working or something?!
- dbxz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2the longer they wait the more potential customers they lose... about 20% of the ppl waiting for a meron MBP/MB would consider buying something else if nothing is updated soon.
http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=234351 - turbodigg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I just bought a macbook....damn.
- AceTracer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Marked as inaccurate. Just because a rumor site says it doesn't make it true.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3@1shawn
I watched a Futurama the other night where they only said "X-Mas". Thought it was strange, 'cause it seemed rather forced. - moofer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Ireland is totally right. I didn't think I'd like the chicklet keyboard on the Macbook, but then I used it, and I can FLY on that thing. very lightweight, and rugged. It is going to hold up well over the years, and it is totally easy to clean.
