- pzzq, on 10/12/2007, -2/+28this is one analyst's opinion, nothing more.
- neoform, on 10/12/2007, -8/+31You want to watch movies on a 1" screen??
- AnalogDaylight, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17First off, this is PURELY speculation, this article is in no way at all confirmed information. Second off, a 10gb FLASH based mp3 player will cost a fortune no matter how much of a discount they give apple.
- ndm007, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10"Pictures of the new versions are available -- although it appears that there have been few if any cosmetic changes."
Perhaps becuase that image was around last September when the nano first arrived. - andywaite, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9With the price of flash memory always falling, it's a very safe and obvious prediction. By the time it's releaed, the 8GB/10GB model likely will be priced around the same as the current 4GB model. I expect the 2GB Nano will fall in price to that of the current 1GB Nano, and the 1GB Nano will be dropped altogether (or will perhaps replace the Shuffle). This is the same pattern as Apple stick to for the hard-drive based iPods - when a new top of the range model is introducted, the previous model becomes a lower model, and the lowest model is dropped.
- Ecoli, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12I know people are probably tired of hearing this, but by putting Linux on your nano (not too difficult if you've got a good guide) you CAN watch videos (they look decent) - although their file size is very large, so it's more of a novelty.
But what will the prices be like for these? Even if the $250 4GB nano goes down to say $200, the 10GB will probably be very close to $300, so why not just get a 30GB video?
Perhaps they will just totally replace the old nano's, like they replaced the mini's... - KSUdesigner, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Better yet, bring back an old fad...the fanny pack!
- Eddible, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Marked as innacurate, as many have said, it's pure speculation even though the title of this story states that Apple will release these nanos. I mean post these things, but don't twist the truth to make a better story.
- XTrek, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8A 10G iPod that uses flash storage. Nice and compact with super low power consumption.
- hyperpasta, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5While I don't like DRM either, I don't exactly have to jump through hoops to listen to my music elsewhere. I can just burn a CD. One button. No DRM.
- frontpage, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Or you could hire a porter or buy a pack mule
- mdweezer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Speculation and the image is definitely not of the "new version". I was expecting a camera phone shot of the info screen on the iPod showing the new hdd sizes.
- ColdfireHunter, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4No digg, it's only speculation from an analyst.
- darthtrevino, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3..or a Scott e-Vest
- geminitojanus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Complete Mirror:
"In the wake of the touchscreen iPod delay, Apple will be launching new 8GB and 10GB iPod nanos in the summer. At least that's what Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster is saying.
Munster's reasoning is that, as the touchscreen iPod will likely not now appear until next year, Apple needs to launch something eye-catching in time for the lucrative run-up to Christmas and bigger capacity nanos fit the bill nicely.
Apple itself has hinted that iPod prices are due for a spot of pruning. "We expect [the average iPod selling price] to be down a little bit in the June quarter," said CFO Peter Oppenheimer recently. Reading between the lines, this doesn't necessarily mean that iPod prices will drop, but that Apple could be predicting increased sales of the cheaper Shuffle and nano models." - JoeDonH, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I wish I had seen your summary here before I went to that site. I don't think it's possible for them to cram any more ads onto that page...
- grayapple, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I have a huge audio collection and my 4thGen iPod seems a bit big in my pocket (wallet, keys, mobile phone, camera and iPod!). I might look into this when and if it comes out!, question is will it bre running on a portalPlayer chip?
+Digg and +Hope for this! - emdub, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3A classic case of someone submitting a story without RTFA. Speculation and pics of the old nanos does not an announcement make. Stick with poaching news off ThinkSecret and MacRumors, leave 3rd party guesswork monkeys like this article alone.
- evilempire, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3This is not a shock at all... it's pretty much a given that every x months higher capacity iPods will come out. i don't see why everyone is trying to get the article flagged as inaccurate - all Apple future product stories are prretty much speculation.
- punkguitarist, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"Pictures of the new versions are available" - these aren't pictures of the new versions, these are pictures of the current nanos. If this is true then its great, i want something small like my nano [have no interest in videos], but i have atleast 7 GB of music, so my 4GB is too small. Since I can fit about half my music, you would think that 50% of the time i want a certian song its not there, but it turns out be almost always.
- Durrok, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I have a 20gig Ipod right now which I am pretty happy with. I think I would ebay it and buy the 10 gig nano if they actually ever release it. More then likely though Apple thinks this guy is on crack.
In other news, I'm going to make a blog that says McDonalds is going to start selling cows. Why? I dunno, they gotta do something to increase sales though right? - mark1372, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2If there are new pictures available, they ain't the ones in the article, you dummkopf.
- pkulak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I really like this idea. I have no need for portable video, so a tiny music player at 10+ gigs would be really nice. But I'll hold on to my old 20gig 3G ipod till then.
- ozid, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2You keep all of that stuff in the same pocket?
Just kidding, but get a lanyard for your keys, or a belt clip for your phone or leave your camera somewhere! That's too many gadgets for my pockets. - geminitojanus, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6Digg is a NEWS website. This is NOT NEWS, rather Speculation that could be done by absolutely anyone (I personally predict the next generation will be available in 8 and 16GB models, see, see what I did there, speculation!). Since the speculation happens to be published, it generally becomes "more credible", and at that point this speculation becomes hype. Hype is incredibly bad, as we have now seen time and again with Apple and Google products, because it makes people think that something that otherwise would be incredibly expensive and/or even possible, more likely.
- amoona, on 06/12/2008, -0/+1there must be a capacity limit to flash players at some point...

http://www.smilenut.cn - Massif, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Or Surf Style windbreakers!
- bloodyartist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1no digg, story is just speculation like so many have said before me...
I would love an 8gb or more nano tho...
:oP - s0ny, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1diggaddict - get over it! Jesus. Since your so against the iPod and iTunes, and judging from your comment you have never owned or used one, then it seems you have a pretty crappy argument against them if its only Apples DRM.
So I take it you will never in your whole life buy a song online then...or is Microsofts DRM ok...and Apples is just the evil one? As stated above, Apple has the most relaxed DRM and 99.9% of users never even know its there. Want your music without DRM...burn a damn cd and then re-rip it you damn whiner!
All you anti-DRM (music files) people piss me off. Just one more reason to get upset about something that you have no idea about and isnt going to affect your life one bit. DRM is going to be a part of your life as its the only legal way any company is going to sell files over the internet, so get with it...its here to stay. - kkapoor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I'd like a current Video iPod with 24GB of flash memory. That would be ideal. It could be as thin as the Nano and maintain roughly similar dimensions otherwise. Battery life would be increased dramatically as well. I can picture it in my mind and it is awesome!!
- splintax, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2The Shuffle is lame. There are many cheaper Shuffle competitors that have more features (radio, recording, screen etc).
- splintax, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Reported as inaccurate. Ridiculous story, clearly dugg by people who just scrolled down the page digging stuff.
Maybe you shouldn't be able to digg stuff 'til you go to the comments page. - s0ny, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1removed - wrong person replied to.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Thanks Ozid..you proved my point.
A college age kid walking around with a ***** lanyward around his neck and his cell phone cliped to his belt. I've got a clear picture of you now.
People eiether laugh at you when you walk by, or speculate that you are gay. Realize that. - fishindiesea, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4this is an ANALYST REPORT.
please state that in the description. digg is a journalism website and this is clearly sensationalist journalism - rebelyell2k5, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"diggAddict" you, are a flaming idiot.
=D - fatalea1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Did everyone hear that! Spread it around, the next generation will be 8 and 16 GB models
- cg0def, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1sweet the nano is slowly growning in size. Only I'll hold off untill they come up with a 20 and 30gb versions. Then I will probaly replace my 60gb harddrive based mp3 player. After all flash media is so much lighter and lasts a lot longer. Oh yeah and most of all uses less battery power.
EDIT: only this whole article is pure speculations ... - JasonPrini, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I'd like a nano-thin iPod+video with 2.5" screen and 10-20GB flash memory. They could also put a higher capacity battery for much longer video playback.
Something between nano and hard drive units..
I'd buy that... - cantankerous, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1diggAddict,
The people here should have schooled you, not buried you. If you don't like the DRM crap (who does) buy a CD and slap it on your iPod! That way you get to keep your better sounding audio (not that dynamic range exists much in todays recordings.. but that's another rant). Is it that hard to figure out? Ignorance is a disease. As for DRM, that is NOT Apples doing. Get your facts straight. At least Google before you post. - kolop1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1 This is all rumor. Stop digging this crap. A 10 gig flash based player would be what 300$ or more for Apple to make a profit?
- DenZ88, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1It's simply speculation on behalf of "market analysists"
They predicted the video ipod, so why not an upgrade? It's about time anyways, 2GB and 4GB today is just too small. I think Apple will at least throw us a 6GB version - Buddhist, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1COMING CHRISTMAS 2007
the 100GB Touchscreen, Video-and-mp3-playing, blowjob-giving iPod.
AND
the 50GB, touchscreen, video-playing, mp3-playing, DRM-rootkit-filled, size-of-a-tic-tac iPod Nano.
(We also make computers... :'| ) - Lacero, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3The same as the 4GB model.
But it's likely the models will be 2/4/8 GBs. - Ratteler, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Now these are the Nano's I've been waiting for. An 8 or 10GB version is more than I need to run around with my favorite music and podcasts. 4GB was just too damn small.
- ozid, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1are you kidding me? i don't keep the lanyard aroud my neck. and if you have a belt clip for your phone and don't have your shirt tucked in nobody can see it. i'm still 20 years old, and have enough confidence to pull whatever i want off, i don't need fashion tips from you.
and I don't have to worry about impressing women anyway, because my girlfriend is all the woman i need at this point in time. so if you don't mind, i'm gonna go get laid.
kthxbye - fatalea1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Just buy a nano and a video.
- bobx11, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I got a shuffle when they came out and it still rocks the socks... solid-state storage + no LCD to crack - price = good deal. besides - when you have 80gigs of music there's no ipod that you don't have to reload all the time :)
- wormdood, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0I have a 4th gen ipod and I've been hoping that by the time I need to replace it there will be a 8 or 10 gig nano on the market. I don't care about the video. I just want something that holds most of my music collection and is small.
