I remember when Linkin Park released their first album. They were instantly on top of all the rock charts; just kind of came out of left field, nobody knew who they were. They had this really interesting rock/hip hop sound that was a lot cleaner (musically) than the rock-rap groups to come before them (most of which had burnt out in popularity by that time). Everyone was praising them as the next big thing. I don't recall hearing anything bad about them online or in the review scene.
So time goes by, their album stops playing and they kind of fall off the radar for a while. Then their second album comes out and people start gobbling it up (a lot of them probably blindly, based on the success of the previous album) and they're back on the charts again. SUDDENLY, every music aficionado who considers themselves "underground" is hammering on Linkin Park's PREVIOUS debut album. Like, over a year later. So now more and more people see that the band isn't "hip" to the underground scene anymore and start to jump on the "LP is emo n' suks kk" bandwagon. So they're fantastic one day and crap the next. Honestly, I thought the second album was weaker than the first.
This just goes to show me that some peoples taste in music is fabricated BS. They're elitist-minded indie freaks who only like non-mainstream music. They're with a band right up to the point where they become popular, and then all of a sudden that band is crap and their music is lame or "packaged" for a certain demographic and the band has "sold out."
