- mrjit, on 12/06/2007, -9/+54A "sub-notebook" for $1500? Seriously? Let me know when they release the mini-sub-halfnotebook for $700.
- OJXs, on 12/06/2007, -6/+51I'm ready to convert to OSX
I tried the hackintosh and now I'm ready to buy that sub-notebook - joeycerone, on 12/06/2007, -1/+33rumors rumors....
- Nothlit, on 12/06/2007, -0/+28three four
- dezman2003, on 12/06/2007, -13/+35Too expensive, I'll stick with the EEE instead.
- dezman2003, on 12/06/2007, -1/+17good luck with that.
- eekfuh, on 12/06/2007, -0/+14Then it looks like you won't be getting anything Apple has to offer.
- superkendall, on 12/06/2007, -2/+16Lightning doesn't strike twice in the same place. Waiting for a mythical price drop is pointless. If you need something, buy it and enjoy it.
- Mizzike, on 12/07/2007, -0/+13i declare a thumb war!
- totorototoro, on 12/06/2007, -1/+13Have you priced out the "sub-notebook" market? That sounds pretty much in line with other name brand sub-notebook/ultralights. Of course, we don't know all the features/lack thereof yet.
- fugazied, on 12/06/2007, -2/+13Or you could get a job!
- IllBeBack, on 12/06/2007, -9/+19Remember to wait a while before buying to allow Apple to lower the price by $200.
- airj1012, on 12/06/2007, -6/+15Looks like Diggs new dupe system is working great: http://www.digg.com/apple/3G_iPhone_and_1500_Super ...
- happyseamonster, on 12/06/2007, -1/+9I understand the sentiment but... att simply didn't have enough 3G area covered anyway. The new one will have both EDGE and 3G (as does many current 3G phones) and people will rush to buy them only to be upset that 3G is not in their area.
- BlueStarr, on 12/06/2007, -8/+15Credit card ready and prime.
- solistus, on 12/06/2007, -1/+7As far as rumor sites go, though, AppleInsider is a pretty good one. Their sources are usually legitimate.
- superkendall, on 12/06/2007, -1/+7The EDGE network is superior - in coverage.
3G is superior in speed - if you don't have WiFi around. And don't care about battery life (a problem the new chipsets used in June aim to correct).
The June iPhone should be a no-compromise 3G device. - zioxide, on 12/07/2007, -0/+5^ Apple Insider makes up tons of *****.
CNBC however, usually doesn't broadcast rumors unless they're fairly credible. - lilSears, on 12/06/2007, -2/+7Dang, I kinda wanted a tad smaller screen than 12-13.3".
- eekfuh, on 12/06/2007, -0/+5I'm thinking a 32gb and a 64 version... since Micron just announced they will be selling those SSDD in those sizes.
- inactive, on 12/06/2007, -0/+4What will your phone # be in 2014? I'll put it on my calendar.
- borninda818, on 12/06/2007, -6/+10Good for you! If it's a penryn I'll buy one two.
- inactive, on 12/06/2007, -2/+6I have to say this, if it is 12" and $1500 I might be considering buying one, every other sub-notebook for 'real work' out there is at $1800+.
Putting ubuntu on that thing must rock. The only thing that will suck is the ATI video card, I'm sure it will be an ATI. - etandrib, on 12/06/2007, -0/+4If it is MacBook Pro line then you can expect it to be and stay around $1500.
- johnpaul191, on 12/06/2007, -0/+4there is also a battery issue with 3G.... i'm guessing people assume it will be figured out in the next 6 months or so.
- centinall, on 12/06/2007, -4/+8Does the asus eee count as a "sub-notebook"? if so, it's only $349. Probably doesn't have the performance of this apple device, but what does one really expect to be able to do with a "sub-notebook" apart from look cool at starbucks?
- lharrod, on 12/06/2007, -1/+5Dude, it's cool if you're poor, don't sweat it.
- Ireland, on 12/07/2007, -0/+4I tried that hackintosh nonsense. The real thing is way better. And "way" more reliable, not to mention more powerful.
- Tippis, on 12/06/2007, -1/+5Not really – it's edging more into "palmtop" devices.
The expectancy of a subnotebook is excellent battery life; a weight of 3lbs or less, while still having all the features of a notebook, including being fast enough to run something on the scale of Windows and Office (most importantly presentations), and while still having enough screen real-estate and resolution to be able to work on it. - kingkilr, on 12/06/2007, -0/+3Yeah... to my recollection the 64GB SSDs are like $500+ right now.
- plbland, on 12/06/2007, -0/+3In europe 3G coverage is pretty good. I think over here it is a much bigger deal (amongst us techies anyway).
- flipmeat, on 12/06/2007, -0/+3This could easily be a manufacturing run of a refreshed Macbook, with no flash, and a 13" screen - just like the current ones have. Yeah, it might be thinner.
- TacticalPenguin, on 12/06/2007, -0/+3To all you people utterly failing to read the actual article, it is in no way AT ALL a real sub-notebook. It has a 13.3" or 12" screen, that is merely an ultraportable, nothing close to the size of subnotebook.
- mrsteveman1, on 12/06/2007, -1/+464gb is prohibitively expensive in that form factor, and firewire 800 is nearly worthless at this point
- LeeSoong, on 12/07/2007, -0/+3http://www.oqo.com/products/index.html
- scyon, on 12/07/2007, -1/+4So, I'm ready for you guys to dig me down, really I am.
I've got this device called a Nokia n800 Internet tablet. It has a bigger screen than the iPhone (it has a 7" screen ), displays websites, works well as an ebook reader, runs Skype, plays video, sends and receives e-mail and a whole host of other things. I've got it hooked up to my n75 cell using Bluetooth, providing me 3G network access. For the record, my UMTS connection has twice the bandwidth of the Edge connection that the iPhone uses.
Here is the kicker: the n800 is half the price of the iPhone.
Let the digging down commence! - johnpaul191, on 12/06/2007, -0/+3back when the iPhone launched, Jobs said his goal is to eventually get the thing to $99.
- johnpaul191, on 12/06/2007, -0/+3superior is subjective..... it was said to be adequate for most everything except *some* web browsing (which it seems to be). 3G is lesser in the sense that you would have 0 coverage in a lot of the USA, and your battery would die a lot faster.
maybe Apple did not realize how much extensive web browsing people would do? or how impatient they actually are? EDGE works for streaming youtube videos... and that says something. i wonder how much perceived EDGE slowness is actually hardware related (processor/memory/OS) or some issue with the mobile version of Safari?
i don't have an iPhone, or use AT&T, but it makes me wonder. if i use my old G3 500MHz ibook running Safari or Camino with a fast connection, it will still choke on some web sites. it's not the connection, but the machine itself. maybe people compare their phone to their laptop/desktop machine. - inactive, on 12/06/2007, -3/+6This is *****. "If you can't afford Apple you must be poor." Terrible excuse as to why you should get it.
- happyseamonster, on 12/06/2007, -0/+3Broadcom's new chips are more efficient.
- WildTurkey00, on 12/06/2007, -1/+3So if this model is a MacBook "Pro", what's going to happen to the current entry-level Macbook line? Will it be getting an overhaul eventually?
- Elranzer, on 12/07/2007, -0/+2One could also just buy a MacBook for $999 and put in Flash memory themselves using a Flash-to-SATA adapter. Just saying...
- inactive, on 12/07/2007, -0/+2very droll
- jkoke, on 12/07/2007, -0/+2Wow, you typed all that just to spam us in the end. Digg is not your personal link farm, and the digg downs you're getting should tell you why.
- LeeSoong, on 12/07/2007, -0/+2OK Then, I'll wait...
- inactive, on 12/07/2007, -0/+2Is a sub-notebook, we all know what to expect from it.
- diggn_it, on 12/07/2007, -0/+2Wow, because you didn't buy a cell phone that no one told you to buy, you are clearly "fighting the man" and therefore totally great. as for me, I also keep my things rapped in the fictional money that I don't spend on things I never intent to buy.
seriously, what does anyone prove by not getting an iPhone except that they don't really want an iPhone? Moreover, why do people care at all about other peoples purchasing decisions and feel the need to critique them at length? some people are weird. - AceTracer, on 12/07/2007, -0/+2What happened to the iBook when the 12" PowerBook came out? Nothing.
- luigi1015, on 12/07/2007, -0/+2Don't bother, by that time he'll be saying it should be 250TB.
- LeeSoong, on 12/06/2007, -0/+2Buy only with cash.
