- BlueStarr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The iPod is the extension of the philosophy that Apple has. It needs some work but they're getting there. Track the progress from 99-05 as proof.

Yeah I guess thats why Im always hearing about peoples iPods breaking and exactly how many cases are there for the iPod?
UrbanDictionary is right it is the worlds smallest form of penis compensation - CptnObvious, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"iPod won't be the #1 music player for long."
IMHO the iPod has never been the #1 player. It doesn't have voice-record, line-in record, radio, USB-Host, FLAC support, or OGG support so HOW IS THE IPOD A SUPERIOR PRODUCT?!?!?!? - diggnationdevon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I love Apple. And my new iPod
- BlueStarr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"iPod won't be the #1 music player for much longer."
It has been for the past FIVE years. :D Will you say the same after ten? lol - iSEPIC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1^^ unless they find a way to keep on making people buy new ones (that's what MS discovered LOOONG ago, with software... every few years, you can re-release and charge $$ ) -- Apple is doing this too with OSX (like a new version for sale every year even, but, since they only sell the OS to less than 1.8% of the computer market, well, there isn't much profit to be made).
- randylovin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1""why do you need OGG support again?"
My hole music collection is in OGG as is the high quality torrent for TLLTS. Its supporting an open standard, something an apple person wouldn't understand"
You're right. Self proclaimed audiophiles are the only technogeeks more pretentious than Apple users. - ronmexico, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Once the iPod bubble bursts (& it will) Apple will be back in the red."
They were out of the red long before the ipod, they have zero debt, Mac sales are up. - sexypixels, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"THATS WHY IM RICH!!!!! YAH GO APPLE!!!"
Yeah me too....I'm so glad I bought AAPL!!!!!!!!!!!! - crapiolio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1iPod won't be the #1 music player for long.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11) Great hardware. Best laptops in the business. Desktops are VERY solid.
2) Great software. OS X is a home run. iLife + HD cameras is bliss.
3) Excellent security out of the box (for now).
4) Great support. AppleCare is a laptop owners best friend. Genius bar means customers get face to face contact without being passed on to India.
5) Financially stable and ethical. Money in the bank, heavy R&D investment = new product opportunities.
6) Room to grow. Having a 3% market share is an opportunity. Getting an increase to 6% means the company has doubled. Pretty tough for others to do that.
7) Returns. As an investor, I have made some good money from the Apple stock this past year. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18) Oh yeah, Steve Jobs gets it.

Um... at last year's WWDC keynote, Apple announced that they are slowing down the release cycle for MacOS X. They're going to be releasing paid updates less often in future (previously it was about 12 months, usually with every second one paid, tiger was 18 months, and there's no whispers *at all* of the next major update, which means it's quite likely to be 24 months. - pillguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Down almost 5% over the past 2 days......I have a bunch of it, so I am happy overall.
- abhibeckert, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Apple's philosophy is and always has been to make money on the hardware, and provide the software either free or cheap. To give you an idea how little they depend on selling mac os x, there is absolutely zero anti-piracy. They don't even use serial numbers.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+09) Scalability. Apple is one of only a few companies that can scale to a Microsoft level in a relatively short period of time. Channel partners and infrastructure exist, money and investment dollars are available, and given a market, the only x factor is time.
/ok, I'm done - smhill, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Once all the corporate tool ipod owners realize that all apple is doing is adding features that should have been in the first revision to get them to buy another one every year it's all over. I'm surprised they milked the thing this long."
That's ignorant. Everything improves. Why should I have to buy a new 2Ghz machine, when my 400Mhz machine should have had it in the first place?
It's a lame train of thought. Massive sales of the iPod has increased demand for smaller harddrives, more flash ram and displays. A color 4Gb nano would have been ridiculously expensive if even possible with the first gen iPods came out.
I have had one since the 2nd gen. Recently replaced it with a nano. I use it to listen to music/books. I also connect it to my camera to provide extra storage for photos when I am away from my computer. I have never had a lick of problems with either. Radio sucks, voice recording is pointless as is a line in. Video on the iPod doesn't really interest me, but it is the same price, so whatever. I certainly would not pay 300ish bucks for a status symbol.
So if you don't like them, here's a tip, buy one you do like and stop bitching about it. - afruff23, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0There are cheaper places to get X5s. I got mine from newegg.com for $270 (20 gb X5L version). I would've probably got the Vision:M had it had:
1. The battery life of the X5L
2. UMS support(you have to use proprietary software)
I agree with turing. iPod's are very easy-to-use which is why so many people have bought them because they are not tech-savvy. BUT if you are tech-savvy, you HAVE NO excuse for buying it(unless you really like the exclusive iTunes videos). The iPod doesn't even come with an AC adaptor!! The Vision:M looks like a toy. iPod requires you to use software(iTunes, winamp with a plugin, mediamonkey,etc.). But the X5 allows you to use it as a hard drive in my computer. You can even transfer songs with UMS(unlike the M). X5L has 35 hour battery life, supports way more audio formats, and doesn't require ANY software. The screen is small, the video sucks, and it doesn't support ID3 tag browsing. You have to use filetree browsing, which many prefer. You can still view ID3 tags but only while you play the song. Something you can't argue with, is the GREAT SNR of the X5. It also has unbeatable battery life(except for the Sony bean which has 40 hour battery life, but it isn't UMS or store 20-60 gigs). - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Apple lover are complete morons.
Hey, it works both ways. LOL - skyfex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0 cptnobvious: "Its supporting an open standard, something an apple person wouldn't understand."
Haha! Really? So one of the biggest corporate user and supporters of open source doesn't understand open standards? MPEG-4 (AAC & AVC/H.264) isn't an open standard? Would Microsoft have made Bonjour open-source/an open standard had they developed it? Did iWorks default format suddenly stop being XML? Sure.. it's not Linux, but for a commercial OS, it's damn well close. Don't make me laugh kid.

And let's not leave out Darwin and Webkit. Both open source. Webkit kicks ass. - cusoman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Apparently putting "Apple" in a story headline will always get it to the front page on Digg, go fig.

Good for you, you must be so proud of yourself as you walk around knowing you're so much better than the rest of us. Congrats. The iPod is cog in the gears that drive Apple.
To the haters... Deliver the beef... if they're not the best in the digital media market, who is? And, where are the statistics to support that assertion? Guessing the future doesn't count.
They have a good business plan, have managed to grow market share with in spite of the Wintel juaggernaut, have consistently improved and added value to their products, and, most importantly, are profitable. Why wouldn't their stock go up? They have better margins than other PC makers, too. Yes, yes... they charge more, yet people continue to buy Apple. Interesting.
And... if you spent less time hating and more time READING, you might learn something. - Linuxrocks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0NutriSystem, a company offering diets and prepared food over the internet, was up 1,547 per cent for the year at one point, before a year-end profit-taking left it with a gain of 1,233 per cent.
LOL - anthonyb415, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Not to brag, but....AAPL shareholder for the past 16 months! Yea for me. (I don't think this is the last stop for the AAPL money train either, I believe the next year will bring more joy for every piece of AAPL out there!

What are you in reference to? My largest pet peeve is most certainly when people make claims that they can't even begin to back-up. I'm not saying the iPod will forever reign above all other portable music players, or media players as a whole. All I'm saying is if you are going to sway strongly in support or against something (in this case the iPod) then please support your claims with something more then a blog post. . . Especially if you are the one that wrote your own post. - Warpling, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0THATS WHY IM RICH!!!!! YAH GO APPLE!!!

- nintendofanboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0its not just ipod theyve had all that new stuff come out and thats wat brings most faith in to the company and ipods are the best
- krayj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0turing states a great point, and backs it up with plenty of detail. I have yet to see anyone with an iPod backup their cause with logic proof that the iPod is the better buy.
Think about it, if you can fish out enough money for an iPod, you have enough money for the iAudio, or another brand with more features for about the same price.
I'm no fan boy, but let's look here, iAudio (X5) has an SNB rating of 95 db, compared to iPod's 90 db. The Majority of Creative's players are 95 db +. Sure, Creative has it's problems with the headphone jack on the Micro, and possibly other models, but does iPod not have just as many problems as Creative? The iAudio X5 (20GB) has video playback, a FM tuner, voice recording, photo viewer, text viewer, lyric support, support for many more file formats, a customizable EQ, with BBE sound, drag and drop support, and etc (turing listed many already). To Represent Creative, We'll look at the Vision:M. It has video playback, a FM tuner, voice recording, photo viewing capabilities, text - viewer, and a customizable EQ (I may have missed out a few). Let's look at the iPod Video now (5th generation). It has video playback, and easy to use controls, text viewer, games. NOTE : ACCESSORIES HAVE NO INVOLVEMENT.
Now that we have a general overview of the sound quality, and features of each of the 3 biggest MP3 players out there right now (from what I know), let's compare. They are all in the same price range.
Creative Vision:M - $330
iAudio X5 (20g) - $300
iPod Video (5th Generation) - $300
Look at that, the iAudio, with much more features, a better SNB than the iPod, for the same price as the iPod Video, short of 10GB? fine, drop $40 more for the 30GB.
How about that Creative, looking mighty fine. Great sound quality, much more features, and the same storage capacity for only $30 more, cheaper than the iAudio!
It's all about research.
Note, I have owned a Creative Zen Micro, iAudio G3, MPeye HTS-150(don't even bother wasting money on it), and have toyed with iPods for a long time, as my homeboy has an iPod video (5th generation), my old homeboy (who moved) had an iPod (4th generation, 20GB), and plenty of my friends have iPod Minis, some even have the Nano. I never bought an iPod because I knew that there had to be better than it out there somewhere, and guess what? I found it. I'm glad I've never owned an iPod, and only will own one as a last resort player. - krayj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Another note I forgot to add, the prices I picked up are from the official sites, and their stores.

Why would you want video capability on an MP3 player? Ridiculous!
twid
dont be a moron. instead of jumping in the Apple Bandwagon, everybody needs to do the research and find a dap that is best for him. this is what turing is trying to say. - macman81, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0lol @ twid
So true. - MasterDwarf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I dont hate apple but I think the ipod is trendy at best. Sure it may be a good product but how many people have actually tried the ipod before buying it? How many kids want one because its the latest craze?
I dont have a mac because I think they are pricey. Release OS X for the PC and I'm all over it. I run windows on my laptop and look to run linux on a desktop. Intel does good things but cant match the price of AMD chips. Blah blah blah...so many fanboys, not enough appreciation for what is out there. Geesh.
