Apple sold 10 million iPhones in 2008

crunchgear.com — By using some fairly interesting IMEI collection, the folks at Mac Observer have found that Apple sold 10 million iPhones in 2008, reaching and potentially surpassing Steve’s original stated goal. By looking at phones sold over the last few months, Mac Observer’s “Apple Finance Board” found that the phone has gone through nine 1 million unit runs.

Busting into the cell phone market which is unbelievably saturated is no easy task. Its interesting to follow the story of the iphone simply from a business perspective. I have much to learn as I would imagine many others do as well.

    My point was directed at Apple, as a business. It is impressive for a company who was NOT in the cell phone business to be able to enter the cell phone business so successfully and we can learn from watching them. Obviously their success is based largely on the consumer's motivation which you highlighted. Many consumers wanted an elegant, simple to use, multi-function device. Apple tapped that market quite brilliantly. So excellent point and I certainly can't argue with that!

The digg stories were filled with people claiming that there was no way in hell that Apple would ever sell that many phones and they were also filled with various insults directed at other digger's manhood, mothers, ect, ect.

    Whether or not Apple has sold 10,000,000 iPhones by now is immaterial. I doubt anyone will claim that the target won't be met. So, how many of those diggers that said it wouldn't happen are willing to admit they were wrong? Anyone? Hello...is this thing on?

And since I use it 2-3 hours a day and have fixed a downed website from a remote location at least once, it's put me in the black. So there.

  • rkzda, on 10/08/2008, -0/+1Because budgets are tighter than ever and investors do not think apple will be able to sustain all their sales levels be it with the iphone, touch, ipod, or their laptops. It is not undervalued btw, $200 per share of apple stock in overvalued in my opinion. But see it as you wish.
