- billjimbob, on 07/21/2008, -26/+196I need iTunes for my iPhone, but I don't want Safari and I sure as hell don't want MobileMe... but sure enough, I just checked my control panel and MobileMe is there. Stop installing this ***** on my computer, Apple. If Microsoft did this there would be 20 different front page stories about it, but apparently Apple can just put whatever the hell they want on your computer.
- mattvogt, on 07/21/2008, -15/+129Apple, leave my computer the F*&% alone. If I want to use your services or software, don't call me, I'll call you.
- LyKwId, on 07/22/2008, -8/+89Apple, please fix iTunes so that it runs properly on Vista before you put more crap (that I don't want) in it. Thanks
- lvlln, on 07/22/2008, -6/+67Don't worry. They're actually helping you out. You see, you WANT MobileMe and Safari on your computer. I know this because Apple told me, and Apple wouldn't lie to me, would it?
- smiziley, on 07/22/2008, -13/+61And there's another reason to ditch iTunes...
- ExRe, on 07/22/2008, -11/+57Who's willing to bet that this software has a bunch of security holes?
I always love how Apple boasts about OSX being very secure and Windows being a security disaster. Maybe if ***** companies wouldn't create such ***** software with security holes in it, Windows would be a hell of a lot more secure of an OS.
Or how Windows has so much extra "crap" installed which you never want.
You know what? ***** YOU APPLE. - KnightMareInc, on 07/22/2008, -13/+56there was the apple browser, now this. What else have they forced upon unsuspecting windows users?
- aliguana, on 07/21/2008, -4/+42we do, but we're used to ticky-boxes for our crap. Windows software hasn't had compulsary crap for years. Unless you're installing an Apple product.
- waterdrop, on 07/22/2008, -21/+56I bought a Zune 30GB back when they were selling for under $100 just so I could uninstall iTunes and Quicktime from my system. It was well worth it.
- billjimbob, on 07/22/2008, -4/+38I browse porn every once in a while (read: all the time), yet I don't have a single piece of malware on my computer... maybe you should get off Windows ME.
- koinek, on 07/22/2008, -9/+39More evidence that Apple's policies are just as bad (if not worse) than MS'. It's obnoxious enough that it tries to install Safari on my system every time we have an itunes update.
- jjones20, on 07/22/2008, -12/+40Apple is all about making things simple. Watch those "switch" commercials and you can see what they think their core demo is.
The answer is retards. - Cloud7654, on 07/22/2008, -8/+35What the hell is MobileMe and why is it so damn important that they install it without asking?
- estvir, on 07/22/2008, -3/+24iTunes, the new Real Player.
- twigboy, on 07/22/2008, -25/+46***** Apple!
I dont use any of their *****. No iTunes, no QuickTime, no iPods, no iMac or iBook or whatever the ***** they have.
Its overpriced crap in the name of "simplicity" and sheep are buying it.
This is guaranteed to get dug down. - canadaboy, on 07/22/2008, -3/+24Every company that exists thinks their product will make your life easier, and your computer experience better. That doesn't give them the right to install programs without explicit permission.
Speaking of which, I have a program that will make your life easier. It only take 2 MB in space. Please email me an direct link to your computer so I can make your life easier. - joel8x, on 07/22/2008, -2/+21Well, apparently this is closing in on the 20 front page stories mark since it keeps coming up. Yes, it should be an option to opt-out of, and yes, Apple is committing acts of "Real Player" on the Windows side. As much as I love Apple products, their Windows software needs help. If they would replicate the features using a Windows UI and respect the fact that not everybody needs to have Bonjour, Safari, an Apple TV, and iPhone services running at all times, I think a lot more techie people would respect them.
- axisdelasal, on 07/22/2008, -4/+22Apple Mobile Device Support - 39.84 MB
Apple Software Update - 2.08 MB
iTunes - 82.02 MB
Having to close iTunes 4 times until it doesn't open by its own - Priceless
There thing Apple can't do on a PC for those things buy a damn MAC - Azio, on 07/22/2008, -3/+20Just uninstalled all Apple software. I'm using Winamp to manage my iPod from now on, and QuickTimeAlternative for the occasional .mov file.
- SLockhart, on 07/22/2008, -7/+23I wondered how that MobileMe crap got into mt control panel. Hey Apple I chose Microsoft, get over it.
- billjimbob, on 07/22/2008, -6/+21The fact is that it puts crap on your computer you don't need. Could you imagine how much crap would be on your computer if everyone did this?
- shadoweva09, on 07/22/2008, -3/+15They still haven't fixed safari already being checked when updates are available.
- inactive, on 07/22/2008, -2/+13Super AIDS
- GeneralFailure0, on 07/22/2008, -3/+14But it wasn't part of the iTunes install, it was part of an upgrade. Whether or not it violates their terms of use isn't the issue, it's whether or not it's decent of them to use an update to install additional software on their user's computer. It'd be better to give the option to decline.
- Elranzer, on 07/22/2008, -0/+11iTunes is the new RealPlayer.
- etx313, on 07/22/2008, -5/+14Seriously, this ***** is getting out of control. Apple needs to cut it out. Other companies end up in court over ***** like this... Maybe they should make their ***** software work right on the latest version of windows and people would elect to use it.
- bekeleven, on 07/22/2008, -3/+11Good thing I downgraded my itunes to 7.2 (7.3 being where it all went bad). I haven't looked back. It really is the best option; in 7.3 they introdused that stupid-as-well-as-inconsistent number sort rule.
Anyway, a side benefit of never downloading anything from apple, is not having to deal with crap like this. - eraser852, on 07/22/2008, -3/+11Is there an installer for JUST iTunes? No MobileMe, no iPodService, no AppleMobileDeviceHelper, no iTunesHelper. JUST iTunes.
iTunes is the best music player I've come across, but all these extras with it are completely useless to me. I don't have an iPod. I don't need these things. - joshutk, on 07/22/2008, -0/+8No need to hack anything. Foxmarks or Weave.
- GeneralFailure0, on 07/22/2008, -0/+8MobileMe is for the iPhone. If I'm using iTunes with my iPod, I don't need it and I don't want it.
- Culero, on 07/22/2008, -1/+8I thought I was afraid of regular AIDS, now i have Super AIDS to worry about. :(
- suriyou, on 07/22/2008, -2/+9"Having to close iTunes 4 times until it doesn't open by its own"
Yeah, that pisses the ***** out of me. I hate when I close it and start up a game, then all of a sudden my game is minimized and iTunes pops up like "OHHAITHAR".
***** ***** application. I need to switch to something else. - koinek, on 07/22/2008, -10/+17Smart choice friend. Itunes is grade A junk. I can't wait till I have enough cash for a Zune so that I can dump my ipod shuffle (and Itunes with it).
- eraser852, on 07/22/2008, -3/+10Namebrand PC's come with all that bloatware on it, and I believe they come with it to make the price cheaper.
- killerknives, on 07/22/2008, -0/+6and yet its still not in tiger!
- TGMD, on 07/22/2008, -1/+7Apple is a computer date-rapist...
I KNEW IT! - ricodued, on 07/22/2008, -0/+6Ooh, iTunes with a native Vista UI would be hot and probably wouldn't look so damned out of place and crappy like it does now.
- lordofhaha, on 07/22/2008, -0/+6Solidus did you miss the whole part about talking about WINDOWS not OS X?
- lordtyros, on 07/22/2008, -6/+12AIDS
- blorc, on 07/22/2008, -12/+18I don't really understand how this is any different than adding the preferences into iTunes itself? Should they take out all the features of iTunes that you don't use because you might not want it?
When I installed iTunes 7.7 on my PC to test MobileMe between a Mac/iPhone/PC, I wondered where the MobileMe settings would be. It's in System Preferences on a Mac, so I assumed it would be in Control Panel on Windows. Lo and behold, there it was. It seems like a natural decision to add it to Control Panel as part of the iTunes install on Windows.
I don't see what's so nefarious about this. If it was running something in the background without even logging into a MobileMe account, I could understand people being upset, but it's just an iTunes option that's not located within iTunes, but rather in the Control Panel. - Azio, on 07/22/2008, -4/+10I don't hate Apple, but I'm pissed off because they keep installing ***** on my computer without asking first. Winamp is better than iTunes anyway.
- ClayRobeson, on 07/22/2008, -2/+7Because really, if you're not using MobileMe, it's just an advertisement to buy MobileMe, which means that iTunes is, in essence, installing AdWare on my machine.
How hard would it have been to put a "Do you want to install the MobileMe Control Panel Application?" option in the iTunes 7.7 install package? - ibone, on 07/22/2008, -7/+12Kill yourself.
Today. - Munceenuts, on 07/22/2008, -0/+5I don't like freetestking.
- BurgerPunch, on 07/22/2008, -2/+7WHOAH 2001 called it wants its joke back
- estvir, on 07/22/2008, -0/+5What does Safari, MobileMe, etc have to do with simply wanting to load music on a portable media playeR?
- LittleDas, on 07/22/2008, -1/+6Nobody is saying it's illegal, it's just a dick move and a reason to avoid apple products like they were RealNetworks products.
- Palaceguard, on 07/22/2008, -0/+4and how hard is it to uncheck the Apple stories in the ***** filter. Digg should just remove the filter. People don't use it
- whataboutdave, on 07/22/2008, -0/+4You should THANK Apple for covertly installing MobileMe to your Control Panel.
After all, it's for your own good.
