- bhattsan, on 03/05/2008, -5/+48Its nice to see apple still supporting tiger.
- streak, on 03/05/2008, -0/+32Really, a public release of 10.4.12? Where are the rumors of developer testing of 10.4.12?
- dyranios2, on 03/05/2008, -2/+31I have, people always bitch about their wi-fi on comments regarding OS X updates.
- mathchemist, on 03/05/2008, -6/+25I hope they release 10.5.12 so that Leopard users can reap the same benefits.
- Protoss, on 03/05/2008, -1/+18Or on Digg bitching in the comments...
- MacParrot, on 03/05/2008, -2/+17Nah. He's just one of the countless idiots that thinks the only way to get attention is to say something outrageous. You remember kids like this, their moms had to tie a pork chop around their neck to get the dog to play with them. Very sad
- Raian, on 03/05/2008, -2/+17I think this is the worst batch of comments I have ever seen on digg.
- stalefries, on 03/05/2008, -0/+11There's articles about that everywhere.
Some advice: only pay attention to channels 1, 6, and 11. If you set your network to one of those channels, it'll actually bleed over by 2-3 channels, so channel 6 is effectively channels 3 through 9.
Use some sort of tool (my dad uses NetStumbler on Windows, I use iStumbler on the Mac) to determine what channels are being used around you. Find one that has the least amount of networks on it. For us, it's a pretty even split between 1, 6, and 11, so we had to see the signal strength of all the networks in the area before we settled on 11, which had 2 networks with the weakest signals.
Also, note that your router will disconnect anyone who is on the wireless when your change the channel. Make sure you get everyone reconnected manually. - schoate09, on 03/05/2008, -2/+13It'd be nicer if they supported it for another year actually, much like Microsoft supports all OSes 10 years.
- inactive, on 03/05/2008, -4/+152 is less than 12. Wake up.
- and303, on 03/05/2008, -4/+15I'd say roughly 3 out of the 8 people I know that own Macbooks have dealt with shotty Wi-Fi since that update. It is ***** unbelievable that they haven't patched it yet. If MS did this people would be out in the street with pitchforks and torches!
- chingy1788, on 03/05/2008, -1/+11Vista was released last year and Microsoft is updating XP with SP3
Apple can't do the same with MacOSX? - trainer, on 03/05/2008, -0/+10The LAST? ugh
- davidwasman, on 03/05/2008, -2/+12How about a Leopard update so that my BT mouse and keyboard DON'T disconnect every 5 minutes? Is that too much to ask?
- carve, on 03/05/2008, -3/+13No reason not to? Leopard looks superior, for sure, but I don't think it looks $130 superior. That is big bucks for a .1 update. That is my only reason for staying with Tiger (I bought my Tiger MacBook just a few months before Leopard came out).
I know people will dig me down, but you said there is "no reason not to", and there certainly is. - Steinr, on 03/05/2008, -2/+12anyone still using tiger? oh I forgot I am... I look forward to this, although I have no obvious complaints with the OS.
- Kelmon, on 03/05/2008, -0/+9Yup, and for this reason I think this story is nonsense. Apple would be crackers to release an OS update without public testing with ADC members first and I don't think I've ever heard of a "secret" update before - normally we get regular updates on the current seed number and issues outstanding.
- inactive, on 03/05/2008, -0/+9Security patches continue to be made available where needed.
- MacParrot, on 03/05/2008, -0/+9Apple still releases security updates for 10.3 as well as 10.4.
- MacParrot, on 03/05/2008, -0/+9Yep, it's a screen name. Get over it. I'm not trolling MS or Linux posts (you're welcome to check my comment history if you care) with nonsense about those OSes. Why? Because I don't have a problem with them. Yet here you are, Mac post after Mac post with the same tired trolling spiel.
- brstilson, on 03/05/2008, -1/+9leopard is far more than a service pack. Microsoft increments their version numbers the same way.
- inactive, on 03/05/2008, -5/+13You might be having interference with a neighbor's Wifi. You have to set the channels to one not in use. There was a article about this somewhere.
- limewood, on 03/05/2008, -3/+11it randomly drops my con
- djjuice, on 03/05/2008, -0/+8there is no 10.4.12 seeds so as of now this is a false story. After reading this I went into the ADC page (which I have a paid select membership), and there were no builds of 10.4.12.
- Joners, on 03/05/2008, -0/+7So is this the last update that tiger will receive? Do/Will they still push out security fixes if flaws are found?
Sorry Im coming from a windows background and have been tinkering with the idea of getting a Mac, however I would find this slightly off putting if they dont continue to support their last OS in relation to any possible security holes. - phoomp, on 03/05/2008, -3/+10MacOS updates always seem to break something on at least one branch of Apple computer, and WiFi is a common victim. So yes, Apple, please do a little bit of QA on *this* release. Given that you control the configuration of every computer able to run the OS, this shouldn't be that big of a deal.
- netdroid9, on 03/05/2008, -1/+8...How can it be a setup issue if you can only run Mac OS X on Apple Macs? There's just not enough hardware variation to justify that. Of course, you could mean a software issue, but I'd find it pretty insecure if just any old program could mess with the network stack, and surely the OP would have removed/updated any drivers that could mess with said network stack before complaining.
...Right? - Protoss, on 03/05/2008, -3/+9Eww, Pinstripes!
- gr3yn3t, on 03/05/2008, -0/+6do a hardware test.
- magicRob, on 03/05/2008, -0/+6Did you update to 10.4.11? Safari 3 is in there...
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306 ... - cawpin, on 03/05/2008, -2/+8Don't use ***** USB sticks?
- mrjit, on 03/05/2008, -1/+7Do you know how many people are waiting for SP3 for XP?
- catachip, on 03/05/2008, -0/+6Apple typically only sold X releases (by your nomenclature); however, when they developed OS X (10.0) they realized they had an awesome platform that would be extensible well into the future. They stuck with the 10.Y naming and charge for those releases. The 10.Y.Z releases are free, and there are typically 10-12 of them per 10.Y release. OS X will be around for quite a while, we are only at 10.5 right now.
- MacParrot, on 03/05/2008, -0/+5My kid's iMac G5 is still on Tiger since for whatever reason WiFi refuses to work on their machine on 10.5 (yes I tried updating to 10.5.2). Works great under 10.4 and I've tried all the tricks mentioned that I could find. Has anyone else here had this problem and if you were able to solve it and get to 10.5, let me know what you did.
- directive0, on 03/05/2008, -1/+6@NoOnEx
or... he got one of the many defective units that made it through QC. - wwwluckyro, on 03/05/2008, -0/+5I moved to Leopard and it's better in terms of features and applications, but some Leopard-introduced bugs are no fun.
- inactive, on 03/05/2008, -1/+6Works fine for everyone else? Why don't you read the reviews of the Apple wireless keyboard instead of being a smug jagoff.
- robogobo, on 03/05/2008, -2/+7Dugg down for being a total douchebag.
- carnag3aus, on 03/05/2008, -0/+5stfu?
- brstilson, on 03/05/2008, -1/+6Didn't Microsoft drop support for Windows 98 in 2006? That's only 8 years.
- phoomp, on 03/05/2008, -0/+5Open your eyes and you might see
http://discussions.apple.com/search.jspa?objID=f75 ... - robogobo, on 03/05/2008, -0/+5Everybody be calm. The only reason a system update would fix your problem is that its resetting everything for you. Hard reset everything, including your broadband modem. Delete all your network locations and start from scratch. Reseat your Airport Cards. Switch to Channel 11, turn off Interference Robustness. Restart everything in the order of connections from the wall, Macs last. Try using only one base station at first, and add more when you have it working properly. Take your time, be scientific. Have a coffee. It'll be ok.
- shoshumi, on 03/05/2008, -0/+4would be nice if they finally addressed the wireless issues in 10.4 and 10.5
- gr3yn3t, on 03/05/2008, -0/+4Put in your system disk and hold "D" right after you press the power button to turn it on.
It should boot into the apple hardware test mode - Kelmon, on 03/05/2008, -0/+4Yup - let's be fair here, Leopard isn't exactly a bug-free release. I did upgrade on its release and honestly wish that I'd waited a bit longer. It is much better now than at release but Spaces is still driving me berserk and there's a reasonable number of other issues that I didn't have with Tiger. Leopard will be a better OS but Tiger was pretty mature by the time the switch happened and it's a shame to lose that level of polish. I'd honestly recommend not upgrading unless you really want to or need to because an application only supports 10.5 (which will probably be most of them soon).
- ardnut, on 03/05/2008, -0/+4This very annoying bug has me wishing I hadn't switched to Leopard yet...
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID= ... - MCDupree, on 03/05/2008, -0/+4I hope it fixes the problem with my computer locking up whenever it goes to sleep.
- schoate09, on 03/05/2008, -2/+6Coming from "MacParrot"
