List of Academic Lecture Podcasts - http://productivity.strategy-blogs.com/2005/10/list_of_academi.html
MIT's Open Courseware - http://ocw.mit.edu/OcwWeb/Global/OCWHelp/avocw.htm
Free Educational Audio and Video - http://www.learnoutloud.com/Free-Audio-Video
Berkeley's Webcasts - http://webcast.berkeley.edu/courses/index.php
Some of these links have been posted here before but the newbies will like this. - jjustice, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Very cool - my seminary actually already has a podcast of sermons. I'm at an extension center, so I have to listen to 10 of the podcasts per semester to get chapel credit :-) Much better than when I had to pay for the MP3 downloads!!
- DeflatorMouse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Don't forget http://itunes.stanford.edu , which has lots of free crap to download. Most of it is audio of individual speeches, symposiums and the like, rather than audio of actual course lectures, but it's a start.

Its called a podcast. My school has been doing this for a while. Even if it isn't on itunes. And its free. On top of this all, you don't have to have itunes installed. - mlebeau, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0nauticaIsland: Stanford doesn't quite cost $50k: http://registrar.stanford.edu/students/finances/index.htm. It's $10,400/quarter for undergrads. Plus of course the cost of living on campus, which is too much, but that's another story.
- Gobblieguk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0My school (myself involved) have been working toward itunes u and should have it up by the end of the semester. It is having the convience of itunes and an easy web address to get your announcements and podcasts to your students. We are also looking into podcasting our class lectures if we can find an inexpensive way to do it. I know this has been around for a while, but it is the simplicity of itunes u that makes it so great.
- inactive, on 03/22/2009, -0/+0I've downloaded several and love to listen to them while doing chores. A great way to brush up on some subjects now that I'm out of school a few years.
- mlebeau, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0nauticaIsland: The page was not outdated, if you took the time to look at your link and ours, you'll notice they're the same, with the exception that digg stole my period and tacked it on to the end of the link. I figured people would be smart enough to figure that one out. And yeah, MBA programs are always craploads more, but I don't see what going through the MBA program has to do with listening to the types of lectures available on Stanford on iTunes.

"And a butt load of music, ALL of which are FREE for he download AND convertable to MP3 !!!!!!!"
I haven't tried the music yet... 114 tracks isn't quite going to load up my iPod though. - seany231, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0cool story...lame submitter though
- Muzical84, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That's really cool. Almost like taking a class for free. =-P Dugg.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Very cool. I'm glad that apple is being active in this arena, and not just worried about profit.

- sriracha, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Sucks that it's m4a/aac. I'd rather see it MP3 so I can play it everywhere. Not all of us are firmly in the ipod boat.
- Boondoggle, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Not much on there yet, mostly speeches etc. Not much science or history.
- history1me, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Yeah, I wish I had that when in school, but I can't wait to see more classes, especially if they're done well and the professor is good.
- frozencaldera, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I know UMaine is working on setting something up right now. :-D
http://www.umaine.edu - YoctoYotta, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0This is rad. Hot damn this is rad.
- funkytaco, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I've listened to the Stanford iTunes lectures. Not very entertaining, but educational at least.
- raster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Nice... we suggested this back in the Fall of 2004...
- exilio, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0That is pretty kick ass. Imagine being able to download lectures or lab videos...very sweet indeed.

- einfeldt, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1A number of other people have already mentioned this perspective, but I'd like to add a little bit more: iPods and iTunes is cool and slick, no doubt, but ultimately, both are locked down. There is a much more open service, called Oboe from MP3tunes. Oboe is written in Python, and the source code is going to be released once they have enough of a building block to give developers enough to sink their teeth into. Also, there is no issue with converting to MP3, because MP3tunes uses MP3 as the standard (as the name would suggest).
So why is everyone so eager to rush out to pay hundreds of dollars for a locked down iPod that won't let you transfer everything you want to multiple computers? And iTunes also is DRM'd. So this thing about Stanford is great, but if you like open standards, you might want to get an MP3tunes account for $40.00 per year, so that you can sync or stream your playslists easily to any device that gets an Internet signal, and so that you are not DRM'd to death. Here is an extensive review that I did of MP3tunes that was posted to Slashdot:
http://slashdot.org/articles/06/01/23/1643234.shtml
By the way, I don't work for Linspire, or Michael Robertson, or MP3tunes, and my review linked above was not totally positive on MP3tunes. MP3tunes' new Oboe service (the streaming and syncing part of MP3tunes) is certainly still in beta, but it's a good enough beta that you can definitely get $40.00 worth of fun out of it in one year.
Mostly, I just think that people really need to consider what they're getting into with Apple. Steve Jobs is doing all kinds of DRM'd deals with content providers, and he just became the biggest shareholder in Disney, with the sale of Pixar to Disney. Hello! Does this make anyone else here a wee bit queasy? It sure makes me wonder. What has Steve Jobs really done for the open source community? - bedouin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Awesome, I wish I had this when I was in school.
