Apple's iPhone will be released on June 11
news.com.com — Now Cingular is confirming that the release date will be June 11. A customer service manager at Cingular (we called 800-947-5096 and were transferred to sales) gave us that date late Thursday, but, alas, said he didn't have any additional information beyond that.

- peestandingup, on 10/12/2007, -55/+18Who wants to bet that Leopard will be released the same day? That'll be one crazy day at the Apple Stores.
- samnetwork, on 10/12/2007, -7/+26Dream on baby.
- phpfreak, on 10/12/2007, -13/+30hopefully leopard will be in our hands way before june 11th...
- kevinmotel, on 10/12/2007, -17/+6I could see a deal at the apple stores though: Buy a new MBP, get an iphone 1/2 price
- recipher, on 10/12/2007, -48/+4The iPhone looks really cool. It's a shame they can't make long distance phone calls or send text messages.
- superkendall, on 10/12/2007, -8/+21Why is that being dugg down? It seems pretty obvious to me that June 11th is Apple Day for the year. Along with the new iLife and new hardware... and new pro apps that also take advantage of Leopard, and HD video being sold on the iTunes Store.
That will, indeed, be a crazy day at the stores. And for many people's wallets. - RiverBelow, on 10/12/2007, -13/+3Actually, yeah they can.
- Tripacer, on 10/12/2007, -22/+3In other news....
Google's New gPhone will be released on June 10. - TheKricket, on 10/12/2007, -6/+18a manager at cingular actually gave the date? its GOTTA be true!
/sarcasm - sadly, this is necessary... - sigsegfalt, on 10/12/2007, -11/+1Holy iPhone!
http://jleyrer.net/digghunter/ - Quix, on 10/12/2007, -3/+25June 11 eh? That means 72 days until flag564's head explodes in volcanic rage.
And 72 days for me to scrape up $600. Goodbye, horrid little Sony Ericsson T610. I've hated you since day one. - twit987, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Will we get a countdown page, ala GTA IV? :)
- adamfalkofske, on 10/12/2007, -13/+40Better look out while driving that day.. everyone will have their fingers on the damn thing, trying to figure out how to call every-*****-body they know on their new iPhone.
- cmilki, on 10/12/2007, -8/+67Ya because EVERYONE driving on the road can afford an iPhone
/sarcasm - flag564, on 10/12/2007, -45/+9Why on Earth do Apple fanatics think that millions are going to be waiting in line to by a 600.00 cell phone.
It's one thing to push astroturf, it's totally another when these guys actually believe their own hype.
You will be lucky to see a person with one for weeks. - DelMonte, on 10/12/2007, -6/+17Oh flag, yet again you forgot that the cheapest iPhone is $500? Do you have memory problems or you try to maximize the impact of your FUD according to MS guidelines?
Rules for iPhone FUD:
1. Never mention the fact that the iPhone starts at $500, always talk about the high-end $600 model like it's the cheapest one. - Ireland, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14@ Flag, go piss up a lamp post you waste of space. We all know you're a Microsoft fanboy and we couldn't give a *****, just please stop ruining our digg expirence by popping up eveytime there's an Apple story, cause you're coming acorss like a paranoid scientologist. If Kevin Rose decided to put the Microsoft section up because of them I'm glad, please go there now.
- iDrinkKoolAid, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1hey fag69, or whatever your name is, go watch your gay pron on your windows mobile device. come out of the closet fag69 and join us iphone fanboys! i know you've got a full-sized iphone poster attached on the ceiling above your bed! :-)
- j_bellone, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2The interesting thing is that I think he's right. How many people besides techies are going to spend $500 on a cell phone? We're all on here complaining about the PS3 being up there in cost and we're praising this phone before anyone has got a chance to actually use it. Personally, being a Mac user, I won't touch the thing until its on CDMA and down to at least $300. Until then Windows Mobile and Missing Sync are my friends.
- willynilly, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1"Trying to figure out" is right, considering that there's no tactile feedback, the much-ballyooed "multi-touch" is worthless on a device that should be usable with one hand, and the UI will very likely defy common sense.
- cmilki, on 10/12/2007, -8/+67Ya because EVERYONE driving on the road can afford an iPhone
- oakj423, on 10/12/2007, -29/+12note to self: go to starbucks june 11 while mac fanboys are at cingular.
- superkendall, on 10/12/2007, -10/+20They'll all be there right after to hook up the WiFi, and to get a cup of joe after having got in line at 3am to get the phone. You'll need something more a like a cave with no WiFi and no Edge - try Wyoming.
- maymats, on 10/12/2007, -6/+39@oakj423
Do you regularly hang out at cingular on other days?
- superkendall, on 10/12/2007, -10/+20They'll all be there right after to hook up the WiFi, and to get a cup of joe after having got in line at 3am to get the phone. You'll need something more a like a cave with no WiFi and no Edge - try Wyoming.
- IC3M4N5, on 10/12/2007, -8/+19iPhone looks great, but it's still young. I'll wait after a couple of updates and hopefully by then it will be added to more carriers....probably not though.
- dasluvaluva, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Unlike other phones, shouldn't they be able to update the device via software updates, similar to the existing iPods? I wouldn't worry about bugs or anything like that, as any hardware updates will be higher resolution, more memory, or something along those lines.
- thesoze, on 10/12/2007, -54/+7note self: bomb Cingular and destroy 95% of apple phagboyz...the other 5% are still sucking themselves off
- superkendall, on 10/12/2007, -14/+28Pretty funny since the real Apple fans will all be at Apple stores, not Cingular shops. You ant-Apple people never were too bright.
- cmilki, on 10/12/2007, -11/+20There are ant-Apple people ?
- NewChar, on 10/12/2007, -14/+9Damn ant-Apple people.
- WiZZLa, on 10/12/2007, -9/+7Well what do you expect of any type of ant people? They have the head the size of an ant, and the tiny brain to match!
- escalus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Have fun when men in suits come knocking on your door. You do realize making threats on the internet is taken seriously in this "post 9/11" world, don't you?
- superkendall, on 10/12/2007, -14/+28Pretty funny since the real Apple fans will all be at Apple stores, not Cingular shops. You ant-Apple people never were too bright.
- mweels, on 10/12/2007, -5/+21
Oh, so now release dates are based on what a Cingular sales rep says - Come on guys.- superkendall, on 10/12/2007, -9/+20Yeah, who is so insane as to believe a someone dealing in sales when you're asking when a phone can be sold to you? Madness.
- mweels, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12
Your right - sales people always tell the truth, I am not sure what I was thinking. - superkendall, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Sure, no reason that sales people would tell the truth about WHEN you could buy something, vs. WHY you should buy something.
You've been mistrusting salespeople for the wrong information. - Nevrast, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2@superkendall
Madness?
THIS IS DIGG!
- superkendall, on 10/12/2007, -9/+20Yeah, who is so insane as to believe a someone dealing in sales when you're asking when a phone can be sold to you? Madness.
- aldomatic, on 10/12/2007, -9/+7It is not worth getting the iPhone as soon as it releases, am sure there will be bugs even tho its an apple
- dasluvaluva, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9...fixed through software updates.
- IchiroBoston, on 10/12/2007, -2/+25June 11th hu? 1st day of WWDC.... Interesting...
- stevewmn, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3I can't wait to see the lines of people at the local Cingular/Apple store that're just there to play with it. I might be one of them if the line is small. I suppose I should make my Genius Bar appointment now. Yeah, I'm an Apple fanboy but I'm not rich or foolish enough to throw money down for this on Day 1. I'll wait until my T-Mob contract expires in a freaking year and a half, and see how things look then. I love the concept but I can't afford it yet.
- hadimirza, on 03/26/2008, -3/+3Yeah, I'll wait for the price to go down first. Then I shall get it. muhahaha
- FizixMan, on 10/12/2007, -8/+6Anyone have any information on a Canadian release?
- SLP1111, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9No such thing as Canada
- digiguy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16I'll believe it when I see it on Apple's website.
- ncaauwe, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1I say June 12th, it's a Tuesday. I may make a trip down to the Apple Store in Omaha to play with one later this summer, but I have no Cingular coverage so I can't get one anyway. If the rumors are true about Cingular exclusivity only being 2 years, then that's nice timing for when my current contract goes up, so I can switch to whoever around these parts gets the iPhone in, because I'm not holding my breath for Alletel, but who knows...
- awrhodes84, on 10/12/2007, -8/+7lol... is it THAT important that you get the iPhone the minute it comes out? I guess those of you out west better hurry up and buy plane tickets to anywhere in the Eastern Time Zone so you can pick it up before anybody back home. I hear flights are filling up!
- digitallysick, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3I want one for sure, can't afford it though, maybe in 2009
- punch, on 10/12/2007, -12/+10Woah, so I'll finally have a phone that plays video, syncs calendars, plays mp3s, and go on the internet???? No way!
Oh wait, I've already had that for months now with my Motorola Q. Oh and I bet my Q supports more video formats (wmv, mov, mp4, xvid) then the iPhone will.- almalax19, on 10/12/2007, -10/+5Well aren't you just super ***** cool!! Nobody gives a ***** about your smart phone thats just like 100% of the other smart phones out there.
- awrhodes84, on 10/12/2007, -9/+10No kidding... sure the phone looks cool, but what exactly does it revolutionize? I'm not an Apple detractor but I certainly don't understand all the hype. I seem to find that touchpad devices are faily annoying to use and prefer actual buttons, but perhaps Apple has done an exceptional job in this area. We shall see, but I'm certainly not counting down the days when products that do the same thing are already out there...
- autoatsakiklis, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6almalax19, his phone can run all third party apps (not special apple approved). And that's the main reason I wouldn't buy an iPhone.
- SKILLZTHATKILLS, on 10/12/2007, -16/+3WHO THE ***** CARES? NOKIA ALL THE WAY.. BUT LEOPARD YA OK THATS IMPORTANT.. BUT ***** THE IPHONE
NOKIA IS KING- joshuakuhn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2How about getting some grammar "skillsthatkillz"?
- mblind, on 10/12/2007, -6/+8Dear Q owners.. We mac users do that on our Blackberries (and Nokia's) now. and next our iPhone.. The Q.... HA.. No thanks. I like phone that don't lock up and crash.
- flag564, on 10/12/2007, -14/+7"No kidding... sure the phone looks cool, but what exactly does it revolutionize? I'm not an Apple detractor but I certainly don't understand all the hype."
You are worse than a detractor. You question this device openly and honestly. To Apple zealots thats assault.- awrhodes84, on 10/12/2007, -10/+3lol... you said it man
- RyanNumberOne, on 10/12/2007, -8/+8I have two predictions: First the iPhone will be the fastest selling cell phone of all time. Second, the phone that will break the iPhone's record will be the next (more economical) phone by Apple. Apple is sitting on a whole line of phones right now that are going to blow people away and there will be phones for all price points.
- flag564, on 10/12/2007, -14/+7Oh brother!
This would be funny if you weren't actually half serious.
So how fast is that AppleTV selling or that Hi-Fi boombox? - timusca, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9@flag
Nobody said the HiFi Boombox was a good idea... as a matter of fact, most people thought it was a horrible idea from the start. You just assume that all Apple fans think everything that comes from Apple is good. While it is true that most things from Apple are excellent (I don't expect you to agree with this), certain products were just awful. Also, we're talking about the iPhone here... don't bring your anti-AppleTV ***** to the table.
Cripes, I don't even know why I bother... more of your ***** will be smeared all over this thread in seconds. - tugger, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I don't know about the boombox but Apple can't make enough iTVs to keep up with demand right now...
- j_bellone, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2You'd be wrong. Even if the numbers that Apple throws out says that they'd be lying. The phone is a locked carrier $500 (minimum) with a two year lock-in. Use some logic. I bet you that the LG Chocolate has sold more than this thing will sell in a year simply because of the price difference.
Not to mention a Internet "tech" phone that does not have 3G. What was Apple thinking? At least they included Wifi.
- flag564, on 10/12/2007, -14/+7Oh brother!
- peestandingup, on 10/12/2007, -9/+3Why did you guys dig down my first comment so hard?? You diggers are a strange bunch.
- punch, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10If the first comment isn't funny it almost always gets dug down. Who knows why.
- oojamaflip2006, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I'd like to bet that the first comment receives the most digg-ups and digg-downs of all comments. Will Digg be releasing their dataset for anaylsis?

- RyanNumberOne, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12PS "but what exactly does it revolutionize?"...multi touch, random access voice mail, rich text, true web browsing, 3.5 in camera screen. Hell, I'd buy it just for true web browsing because I've been looking for a phone that can do JUST that. Palm, Motorola, HTC, all their web browsers are HORRIBLE!
- locojones, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3"PS "but what exactly does it revolutionize?"...multi touch, random access voice mail, rich text, true web browsing, 3.5 in camera screen. Multi-touch - *yawn* while you're busy pinching your photos, i'm busy on my 8525 and its office suite editing documents on the go.
Random access voice mail - It's a pretty standard feature built into move voicemail servers, and just isn't one that's often used. Probably because it's soooooooooooooooo hard to hit the skip button.
3.5" screen - and it's still low res.
Web browsing - Maybe the Apple phone allows calls from the stone ages so they can let everyone else living in the now know what its like browsing on EDGE. - tugger, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Yeah, living on the edge man... the 8525 crashes like a bitch, we get given them at work and I'm on my third.. Poor firmware or something like that, probably rushed to market..
- locojones, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3"the 8525 crashes like a bitch, we get given them at work and I'm on my third.. Poor firmware or something like that, probably rushed to market.."
I've had mine since it came out last year, and i haven't had to reset it once. Crashes on Windows Mobile are the result of user error and ***** programs loaded onto the device. - j_bellone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2My Treo 700w is chugging along fine and it even has RAM issues. Never any crashes.
- locojones, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3"PS "but what exactly does it revolutionize?"...multi touch, random access voice mail, rich text, true web browsing, 3.5 in camera screen. - RyanNumberOne, on 10/12/2007, -8/+3I'm not talking about Apple TV or the High Fi Boombox, I never thought much of either product. I'm talking about the iPhone, and time will prove me correct.
- darthsuo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8First, learn to use reply.
Second, the iPhone is currently (currently!) at too high a price point for a large chunk of consumers. So, it probably won't be the fastest-selling phone ever, simply because $500 is too much for a lot of people to lay down. Granted it'll probably be a success, but it won't shatter any records. Not to mention the fact that the whole multitouch-flashbased-widescreen-internet phone market will probably be saturated VERY soon, and judging by the concepts out there (hello, Onyx), Apple will have some catching up to do. Starting with 3G. - RyanNumberOne, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1I stand by my predictions!
- darthsuo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8First, learn to use reply.
- dupswapdrop, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3By next January your be able to get iphones for $5 on ebay!
So maybe I'll wait till then. - kelemor, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4well i don't care either way...my wife is buying me one for my birthday....if it sucks...I'm out nothing....if it does succeed then i'll have a chunk of cheddar to buy some add-ons. Non-apple fan-boy just a recent convert.
- Azio, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3The iPhone is to a telephone conversation what a Office suite is to writing a form letter.
- kawaiiterebi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I've been using Apple products for years (my dad is a Mac addict pretty much), but I think I'll pass on the iPhone. Too pricy.
