- snkscore, on 03/13/2009, -1/+100This is stupid, this is just a list of things people want in version 3.0, not what might actually be in 3.0.
I might as well put my own list together of features that might make the cut seeing as I have no idea what is actually in the product. - Sonique99, on 03/13/2009, -2/+79I'm calling it now; No Copy and Paste in 3.0
- ferrell, on 03/13/2009, -0/+631. Push Notification
2. Adobe Flash Support
3. Advanced Bluetooth Functionality
4. Copy and Paste Options
5. Background Processing
6. Horizontal Keyboard
7. Video Conferencing
8. iPhone Tethering
9. Global Search
10. Extra SMS Options - brhees, on 03/13/2009, -1/+28Video Conferencing??? Are you kidding me?
"Hey Bob, thanks for getting on this video conference with me"
"... wait ... I don't see you - I can only see the floor"
"oh - well yeah - my camera is on the OTHER SIDE of my phone!!!"
That has to be the stupidest prediction of what might "make the cut" - miakeru, on 03/13/2009, -4/+29Dugg because they were all on one page.
- animefx, on 03/13/2009, -2/+16I love Apple products but I know how often they've let me down with underwhelming updates to products. Let's be honest now.
Although, I hope Apple proves me wrong this time:
1. Push Notification - maybe
2. Adobe Flash Support - yes (and this is exciting)
3. Advanced Bluetooth Functionality - no
4. Copy and Paste Options - no, or we will get a "here is why you don't need it... see you can do something similar and more hacky instead by doing this"
5. Background Processing - true backround processing for the next generation iPhone this year, we will finally get notifications though in 1st and 2nd gen iPhones
6. Horizontal Keyboard - yes
7. Video Conferencing - no, they will save this for the next generation iPhone. we have no front camera now so its not likely.
8. iPhone Tethering - yes. for a ridiculous fee, and data limitations.
9. Global Search - Finder type App and/or designed UI (this is actually pretty exciting)
10. Extra SMS Options - No, or if they add SMS your text messaging plan is going up.
I have 3 to add... improved GPS functionality, digital compass, and some type of iLife intergration or product for the iPhone - jpop, on 03/13/2009, -2/+15My prediction based off Apple's previous performance. It'll be something totally inane that the majority of people don't care about, and will not give cut/copy and paste or mms. Thus, it'll probably be something about the Exchange interactions.
- Charlotte_Web, on 03/13/2009, -0/+12I'd say the video conferencing is very unlikely, with the camera being on the BACK of the phone.
- utnow, on 03/13/2009, -0/+11Absolutely.. It's been done once, in a hacked form... there's no reason for anyone to make it again. I can't believe Mozilla built a browser. MS had already made one.
- Walker2323, on 03/13/2009, -2/+12The only feature that I really care about them adding is Flash. That's the missing link that really kills about a third of all the pages I'd normally surf.
- Zippo, on 03/13/2009, -0/+9Just so long as Push Notifications don't require a MobileMe subscription. I just recently ditched my MobileMe for Flickr Pro and Google Sync.
Bluetooth syncing and A2DP would be pretty kick ass. I plug my iPhone into the wall at night, not my MacBook pro... being able to have a couple podcasts, contact changes, and the like sync over the air would be nice.
Better search would also be nice. I have a *****-ton of friends with the first name "Matthew"... Being able to search by nickname (which I do have input and do show up on the contact's page) would be nice. - topgigmedia, on 03/13/2009, -1/+10no ice cream maker either.
- TeraRealm256, on 03/13/2009, -6/+13buried....more apple...un-confirmed *****....I'll digg actual factual stories...
- jpop, on 03/13/2009, -0/+7You aren't the majority.
- chrisbutts, on 03/13/2009, -3/+10But where's the ice cream maker?
- Rothgarr, on 03/13/2009, -1/+8I don't think Apple wants flash on the phone. Technically I'm sure it's very capable of running it. But I think Apple is afraid that people will simply play flash games and that will kill App store sales.
I also want to see a better way of organizing apps. Please let me create folders so I can organize my apps. That way I can click once on a folder and then on the app (2 clicks total). As opposed to having to swipe twelve times to get to the app I want. List view would be nice, too.
Also a way in Mail to move all email messages to the trash so I don't have to select each message individually. What a pain. - bigsteve, on 03/13/2009, -3/+10Yea, why would anyone want Apple to do these things, what with the inherent tighter integration, GUI developed by masters of their craft, and better testing that'd come with it?
It's neat what the jailbreak-distributed software writers have been able to do, I can't take that from them. But I'd much rather see the makers of the device itself try their hand at delivering these features. Plus, I'm sure security, stability, battery life, and bug fixes will come alongside the new features in any update. - ophello, on 03/13/2009, -0/+7iPhone tethering, please.
- toekneebullard, on 03/13/2009, -1/+8Copy and Paste implies a major release? What an amazing future we have ahead of us.
- thesilverfox06, on 03/13/2009, -0/+6"Who said anything about a software update?"
Uh, I believe everyone did. This is an article about the launch of the new software version. - johnomaz, on 03/13/2009, -0/+6I concur.
- miakeru, on 03/13/2009, -0/+6How would you suggest they upgrade the quality of the camera with a software update?
- ePuck, on 03/13/2009, -0/+6Exactly. Make a top 10 Maybe you'll make the front page!
- boozedrinker, on 03/13/2009, -3/+9It's all ***** speculation people - don't believe ANYTHING. We might as well talk about the exact date and time the world is going to end while we are at it.
- locondcoco, on 03/13/2009, -0/+5its called read the article.
- robodud3, on 03/13/2009, -0/+5I would like Album shuffle in the music player. I have a touch and I miss it compared to my old nano.
- inactive, on 03/13/2009, -0/+5Exactly NONE of these will be there. Watch.
- adriaaan, on 03/13/2009, -1/+6Frankly, I'd be very surprised if none of this makes it. However that doesn't make them all likely :P
- Robart, on 03/13/2009, -0/+5Only Apple can generate buzz with an announcement of an announcement. Sheesh!
- Terance, on 03/13/2009, -0/+5Most of these features sound a lot like what is available after you jailbreak your phone.
How did I live with my iPhone before I jailbroke it? - Fredo521, on 03/13/2009, -0/+5File this one under "duh"
- yunus, on 03/13/2009, -0/+5Rather than bluetooth syncing why not WIFI sync.
- bill679, on 03/13/2009, -3/+7Because AT&T's 3G network isn't slow enough already.
- iRoy, on 03/13/2009, -1/+5I'm expecting a "20 things it still doesn't have and never will" article in the next 24 hours, that one I'll digg.
- atgmac, on 03/13/2009, -0/+4How can you say that when you don't even know what the release will contain?
- tiiim, on 03/13/2009, -0/+4exactly just make a list of ten things you know people want, add the word "iphone" next to name "apple" and watch your story go straight to the top
- gaqua, on 03/13/2009, -0/+4I care about the Exchange interactions.
- Pandalume, on 03/13/2009, -0/+4I'd like to see my wallpaper all the time (not just the times that Apple allows it).
- iDiggr, on 03/13/2009, -0/+4You should DEFINITELY try reading the article before making an "asshat" out of yourself. 3.0 is a software update.
- NeoTechni, on 03/13/2009, -0/+4You are genius.
- stateofmind, on 03/13/2009, -0/+4Background Processing.
- utnow, on 03/13/2009, -2/+6I'm betting on nothing more than a new color scheme that looks more like the changes we've seen in Tunes 8
- 5wallace, on 03/13/2009, -0/+4Nobody really talks about it. But how about allowing users to SYNC OUR TO DO LIST! This is so frustrating for me and one of the things I hate most about Apple. They put out some very innovative, envelope pushing technologies. But because these products are often times revolutionary in some aspects Apple gets away with leaving out some very basic functionality.
I have a To Do list in iCal that I use constantly. Why would it be so hard to have this sync to my iPhone? - dullnation, on 03/13/2009, -0/+3*isn't push already in 2.0
- tiiim, on 03/13/2009, -1/+4Copy and paste is too easy... introducing... "shake to copy" followed by "shake to paste"
- OPR8R, on 03/13/2009, -0/+3If you're really needing MMS functions, you can work around it by using your iPhone's email app. Just email to your friend's number @ whatever the carriers MMS domain is. They'll get it like MMS...
- KSUdesigner, on 03/13/2009, -0/+3"Now that Jobs is out of the way"
How is he out of the way? Because he's staying at home for a few months? It's still his company and I'm sure that all major decisions still have to go through his approval. It is possible to run a business and not physically be there every day. - jakemiles, on 03/13/2009, -0/+3Copy/paste, a horizontal keyboard and Flash you iHoles! Basic editing, basic typing and porn!
- akeldama, on 03/13/2009, -0/+3Hey, don't leave us HTC / Windows Mobile fanboys out!
