- upick, on 09/16/2008, -3/+29sorry guys looks like there's another submission about this update by MrBabyman so mines just a dupe...
All thanks to the dupe checker by digg which is using my own eyes really, when's the dupe checker gonna actually work? - beerbarron, on 09/16/2008, -2/+28Well I am digging this one on the prime basis that MrBabyMan sounds like a digg hogger
- D4rk5, on 09/16/2008, -1/+20This is what should have been released on launch day.
- cerealjynx, on 09/16/2008, -2/+15and the subsequent release of PwnageTool/Quickpwn, which I was also waiting for :)
Too bad Snapture won't work anymore :( - Visarga, on 09/16/2008, -2/+12I have 3 words for you: forced auto correction.
That's a ***** thing to do. What, they couldn't add a switch? Not enough space for the extra code required for a binary ON/OFF? I want to be able to disable my auto correcting ***** keyboard that botches my Romanian words into English (my language is not supported, by the way). I currently have the choice of having my Romanian text forcefully changed (word by word) into English, French, etc. Only if I didn't own an official iPhone sold in Romania, you'd say that was normal. - kingatrock, on 09/16/2008, -1/+7Has anyone noticed installing and updating apps is so much faster? I dont download big games but medium size stuff and nothing takes more than 20 seconds.
- amneosis, on 09/16/2008, -0/+6Very happy with 2.1, triple click on the headphone button to skip back is so useful.
- apologeticus, on 09/16/2008, -0/+6it's been doing that all along, and it's a good thing. it improves battery life
- cricketsymphony, on 09/16/2008, -2/+7dugg to fight the diggtatorship
- starkruzr, on 09/16/2008, -0/+5I'm sure they'll fix it quickly. Snapture is great software and if they get it working on 2.1 I will be purchasing the registered version.
(Are you listening, Apple? Yes, people pay money for jailbroken software. Why? Because your restrictions SUCK, that's why.) - BreatheRhetoric, on 09/16/2008, -0/+5Is plugging it in at night that difficult?
- inactive, on 09/16/2008, -0/+5"Impossible to write SMS in slang :("
Maybe it's best they never let you specifically turn it off then. - deadbaby, on 09/16/2008, -0/+3They should probably consider doing an advanced "use at your own risk" options page with all this stuff. I can see why they don't want to clutter up the UI with an overload of options but there should be someway to tweak some of the finer details. In a lot of cases it won't even be new code, just a front end to flipping ON/OFF switches that already exist in the code.
- d03boy, on 09/16/2008, -1/+42-3 seconds? oh shiz, call the po-leece!
- Scott2, on 09/16/2008, -10/+13whine whine mr babyman whine whine
As long as news i care about gets to the front page, i don't much care how it gets there. - championchap, on 09/16/2008, -2/+5Do you honestly miss copy and paste on the iPhone?
I've had mine since the UK launch and not found that i've needed to use it at all. - KompressorV12, on 09/16/2008, -1/+4"Fewer dropped calls" wtf fewer? looks like im staying with verizon, I don't even know what a dropped call looks like
- Aitese, on 09/16/2008, -1/+4He'd do it to you in a heartbeat without blinking...you're sorry?
- starkruzr, on 09/16/2008, -0/+3I haven't noticed this myself on my 2.5G.
- xsecretfiles, on 09/16/2008, -2/+5I thought I was the only one :(
Is there someone we can contact about snapture? - cerealjynx, on 09/16/2008, -1/+4from http://www.snapturelabs.com/faq.html
"Many of you are experiencing trouble running Snapture on iPhone firmware version 2.1, this is a known problem. Apple has made a lot of changes on the new firmware so we will need time to respectively make significant changes to our software. Please be patient, we're working hard on it. " - cgruber, on 09/16/2008, -2/+5If my iPhone starts speaking vampire it's getting a stake in it.
- Qumahlin, on 09/17/2008, -1/+4***** Flash. Flash is one of the most web unfriendly applications ever to be released. It's popularity is not to be confused with its actual usefulness in site design and standards.
Thankfully HTML 5 addresses this and will be the beginning of the end for things like Flash and Silverlight.
Lets not forget the fact that with each Flash update Adobe introduces more and more memory and CPU usage issues. Someone at Adobe needs to justify as to why a simple flash app with rollover menus can drive your CPU to 100% usage.
I always love hearing my laptops fans turn on when browsing a flash heavy site and seeing that my CPU usage is pegged to the max.
Yet people continue to wonder why flash isn't heavily supported in mobile devices...those people clearly don't realize exactly how bloated Flash is and how many resources it actually requires. - d03boy, on 09/16/2008, -0/+3Um, I don't think it's a race. Sorry chkdg8 but you enjoy the company of men.
- Laminarcissus, on 09/16/2008, -5/+7The bad news is that the App Store rejected the update for being in conflict with existing Apple software.
- thebrokenlight, on 09/16/2008, -0/+2"i don't much care how it gets there"
Sure. Unless MrBabyMan submits it.
*sigh* - clbw, on 09/17/2008, -0/+2Yes you are the only one.
- inactive, on 09/17/2008, -0/+2I hope they never turn it on.
What kind of cretin wants to use 'MMS slang'? - sjorsvb, on 09/16/2008, -2/+4Yeah if you would incorporate flash at this point all the sucky video players would destroy your battery life (notice your pc screaming for CPU when only looking at a video?), it's a matter of protecting the customer.
- SirFragsMore, on 09/16/2008, -3/+5Battery?
In my experience I estimate I gained about 25% longer battery life. - inactive, on 09/16/2008, -0/+2Jail break it, there is an app to turn it off.
And I agree with you, there shouldnt have to be an app to do it - starkruzr, on 09/16/2008, -1/+32.0 -> 2.0.1, not snappier.
-> 2.0.2, not snappier.
-> 2.1, however, was definitely snappier. I have not noticed any increase in battery life. - itsbob, on 09/16/2008, -0/+2Are you suffering from Stockholm Syndrome?
Ask your doctor if Mac is right for you... - diggshane, on 09/16/2008, -0/+2so true, same reason why some people turn wireless off on their laptops to save power.
- SirFragsMore, on 09/16/2008, -0/+2RTFA
- DanMiller, on 09/16/2008, -0/+2I don't know what it looks like but it's spelled "T-Mobile"
- isukeyo, on 09/16/2008, -1/+2Unfortunately, it requires iTunes 8, which breaks Windows Media Player on my machine - still no word from Apple about how to fix this.
- valleyman86, on 09/16/2008, -0/+1Yea snapture = broked. It just closes after it opens. I jailbroke mine yesterday with 2.1 using some semi easy method on windows. I cant realllly tell much difference yet. The internet seems a lil better though where Im at.
- inactive, on 09/17/2008, -0/+1Yes but the other post was by babyman so it doesn't count.
- championchap, on 09/16/2008, -0/+1I noticed and I only have 50.
It was a problem. - TheBigBad, on 09/17/2008, -0/+140 percent of readers report that they're getting fewer dropped calls...and 60% report that they're getting more dropped calls.
- Qumahlin, on 09/17/2008, -1/+2Well your rant was fine except for the fact that all the independant lab tests have showed the phone actually doesn't have signal issues and that the primary cause of dropped calls and initiation issues was the 3g network suddenly getting taxed hard by all the new purchases.
You'll notice the firmware update only said it fixed the ACCURACY of the signal meter, and not that it addresses any actual signal issues. The issue with call set-up and disconnect times they mention being fixed is actually not a signal issue and has nothing to do with actual dropped calls. - digjam, on 09/16/2008, -0/+1The contact lag is not an issue for me since I dont have insane amount of contacts like others., I have not more than 200 contacts ..so I dint really notice a whole of difference. Its still there as before.
Speed is supposedly improved, but I still dont get signal at my workplace...its half a bar 3g or sometime 4 bars edge...but cant browse at all..this tells me,,its a graphical fix on the signal strength indicator, nothing more.
But one thing I ve noticed so far is...it doesnt switch between edge and 3G seamless...i ve been getting more "No Service"s than before after the update. The only way to fix it or get it out of no service is to reboot. This kinda sucks...Anyone else seeing this issue?
Somehow my previous phone was getting more Edge bars in the same place at work building than the iphone...this doesnt make any sense...i sometimes doubt if its the casing which is blocking the antenna inside... - Qumahlin, on 09/17/2008, -0/+1Apple changed a few key bits of framework that affects some applications such as Snapture. I'm sure the devs are already working on a updated version as always.
I'm still waiting for spicychicken to finish updating customize - cricketsymphony, on 09/16/2008, -0/+1well you edited yours to be 3 dissociated thoughts in one, 1 of them original.
- theaverageidiot, on 09/17/2008, -1/+2The first thing the bug fix did was wipe my iPhone. Completely wiped it. Went into "restore mode".
- championchap, on 09/16/2008, -1/+2Is it just me, or has the battery gained life.. unless an Alarm is set?
The last 2 days i've had my alarm set to wake me in the morning.. and the last 2 days it's died before the alarm went off. - gospe1337, on 09/16/2008, -5/+6I was greatly let down by the quality of AT&T and the iPhone 3G's ability to be... a phone. Yes, every feature that seperated it from a regular phone was great. But, at launch, it dropped more calls than an angry nanny drops kids. Sure, listening to my favorite 50 albums is nice, but when I get a call I don't want to call back 10 times.
If they could have fixed these problems through OS tweaks, then this shoudl have been there before launch. QA failure. - BHSPitMonkey, on 09/16/2008, -2/+3Yours is the article I saw in Top Technology. MBM can't take that away.
- RyomaNagare, on 09/17/2008, -0/+1This has happened twice to me already.
I enter teh phone app, and it freezes, the phone does not die, I can still go back to home screen, launch other apps,
in fact if I click any of this names I can start a call, I don't get the active call screen though.
I can't change views like all contacts, recent, or favorites. and I can't scroll the display.
As I said has already happened twice since I upgraded to 2.1 it seems like a weird little bug.
resetting fixes the phone.
