- MooseOfReason, on 01/26/2009, -1/+43It seems like the products became IBM clones when Jobs left, and when he came back, they took large steps forward and looked more unique.
That said, I hope Steve Jobs gets better. Macs aren't my preference, but I don't want to see more clone wars. - Bacontastic, on 01/26/2009, -1/+40Dugg for "I am a Mac, son".
- doctordbx, on 01/26/2009, -0/+17The irony of course is when the original Apple was built it was pretty much the same architecture that would give birth to the modern day PCs including IBM (Good job Wozniak).
When Jobs left, after the 68k Apple days they moved more and more away from IBM architecture to proprietary formats and became less compatible.
With Jobs back It has now come full circle, with the only difference between a Mac and a PC is some Roms onboard rigged to only run OSX (and not do much else). - godphase3, on 01/26/2009, -2/+16Some businesses rely on single people who's vision and direction guide the whole company. Think Walt Disney, Shigeru Miyamoto. Their attitudes can guide massive corporations, and most would agree that it's for the better.
- NexFrost, on 01/26/2009, -2/+15Ron Burgundy?

- Mattro, on 01/26/2009, -1/+11Steve Jobs' absence is under very different circumstances this time round. This time, he has chosen who's in control of each department. Jobs also gets to choose the timing of his absence as well.
His previous absence from the company wasn't planned by Jobs at all. This allowed for the product failures we saw from Apple in the 90s. - znicket, on 01/26/2009, -2/+11But I will pay for the Mac OS X.
- christoast, on 01/26/2009, -0/+9its about what effect his absence will have on the company. Maybe you should actually read the article before making a pointless comment.
- nesagwa, on 01/26/2009, -1/+10Funny, Disney is still making billions 40 years after Walt's death.
- Llanowar, on 01/26/2009, -0/+8I'm on a gameboy.
- jeuhrn, on 01/26/2009, -0/+7If you're gonna quote mr Burgundy, then god damnit, so will I.
Go ***** yourself, pepspaa. - MMaster23, on 01/26/2009, -20/+27Any business that relies on a single man('s health), deserves to go down
- daviddiaz, on 01/26/2009, -0/+6No one knows that yet. Just because his leave is until June, it doesn't mean that he's coming back in June, or coming back at all.
- MooseOfReason, on 01/26/2009, -0/+5I'm on your girlfriend.
- Solkre, on 01/26/2009, -0/+5You don't see Flash ads?
- mrBitch, on 01/26/2009, -0/+5@ doctordbx RE: " The irony of course is when the original Apple was built it was pretty much the same architecture that would give birth to the modern day PCs .. "
Agree, but just check out the home built Apple I on the timeline ( second blue line from the left ) for July 1976.
Now THAT'S an AWESOME case mod! - baronvonrolo, on 01/26/2009, -0/+5I just finished watching Pirates of Silicon valley, only to discover this on digg. It's amazing how different Jobs looks between 1998 and 2007...

- Kazbaeden, on 01/26/2009, -0/+5I'd like to see a timeline of stock price vs. CEO.
- Theli, on 01/26/2009, -0/+4"I am on a PC"
Get down from there! - niteblade, on 01/26/2009, -0/+4Yeah me too. My #1 reason for wishing he'd get better is not that I hope he doesn't endure a horrible death, but rather I don't want more damn clones! Oh well, back to the Starbucks - cya!!
- mrBitch, on 01/26/2009, -1/+5Burgundy : You stay classy, San Diego. I'm Ron Burgundy?
Ed Harken : Dammit. Who typed a question mark on the Teleprompter? - znicket, on 01/26/2009, -0/+4And I´m guessing that I represent a fair size of that market. That is, contrary to your belief, I do not purchase Apple because of brand recognition. I do buy Apple because of good design and very good operating system. And I think most do.
- Gravey9, on 01/26/2009, -0/+4stocks back up to $90
- Llanowar, on 01/26/2009, -0/+4Why read the article when you can look at pictures or skip the whole article and then make ignorant comments?
- godphase3, on 01/26/2009, -0/+3Andrew Carnegie
- poutch, on 01/26/2009, -4/+7i'm on a mac
- MMaster23, on 01/26/2009, -1/+4@"tux11": Why is it everyone not making a positive comment concerning Apple or Linux, is a Windows fan boy?
Fyi.. My comment applies directly at Microsoft as well. Should Microsoft crash, burn, die because Gates left his fulltime role, then they rightfully deserve to.
Oh and having the name of the OS-mascot in your name isn't fanboy-ism at all. Just saying... - groo68, on 01/26/2009, -0/+3well they don't go around burying apple stuff. the apple people are enough that this stuff gets to the main page, which is nice because it represents some sort of minority power on digg, so it's not just a majority rule site. except its submitted by jaybol who is a power user. ive seen more submissions by him than mr.babyman recently.
- speedk0re, on 01/26/2009, -1/+4missing from the timeline... Oregon Trail

- Kabloink, on 01/26/2009, -0/+3You can't copy and paste anything from the article?
- andrewfahmy, on 01/27/2009, -0/+3he's a digger :\
- timusca, on 01/27/2009, -1/+3Don't exaggerate... it is at $89.64 right now.
- katalysis, on 01/26/2009, -1/+3Apple I - INCOMPATIBLE (written on blackboard)
- groo68, on 01/26/2009, -0/+2is that sudo code?
- ApleFanboi, on 01/26/2009, -0/+2lol aple is nothign wtihout steve...
to bad................. - vilago, on 01/26/2009, -2/+4J.D Rockafeller
- addiktion, on 01/27/2009, -0/+2I doubt you'd see more clones like some have said. It's a new day an age and times have changed since then. But I still don't want Steve to disappear because he's the only one to get those damn phone developers off their asses and into high gear.
- mihkeltt, on 01/27/2009, -0/+2i'm guessing after all those apple timeline post, every digg user should know the entire apple product range history and what stevie j was wearing at the product presentation by heart by now
- Nutmegan, on 01/27/2009, -0/+2Why are people hung up on copy/pasting this article from the iPhone? It's in Flash, so you couldn't copy/paste it anyway, despite your vastly superior laptop. I'd love to see you taking a call with that thing against your head like a boom box.
- timusca, on 01/27/2009, -0/+2wtf dude it was a joke... did you really think I was saying you exaggerated over $.36?
- nevster, on 01/26/2009, -0/+2The Mac II wasn't the first post-Jobs product. The first post-Jobs product was the Apple IIGS.
And that's not a Color Classic in one of the photos either.
The timeline idea is good but the execution is a bit lame. - thx0138, on 01/26/2009, -1/+3I know this is relevant with Steve's health concerns.. but after so many Apple history galleries etc, I'm done looking through them. We've seen them all over and over again and somehow they continue to make the front page.
