Duck Tales, Woooo! - timusca, on 04/22/2008, -1/+8The whole market has been a roller coaster, not just Apple.
- bgeveritt, on 04/22/2008, -1/+7Their fiscal year ends in September
- waspinator, on 04/22/2008, -3/+8"chaotic black market in jailbroken iPhones in Asia and the developing world"
So I guess Canada is part of the developing world then? - MacParrot, on 04/22/2008, -3/+8The big drop off in share price took a lot of people by surprise. According to the article, many shareholders were furious that Apple offered pessimistic earnings numbers for 2008 Q2. I'm not sure what their problem was. Would you rather have had Apple all smiles and say "OH the numbers are gonna be GREAT! You'll see!" and then have them not make those numbers? Pay me now or pay me later, the stock would have dropped. Better for Apple to hold back on just rosy predictions and then beat them than to just fudge to keep the stock price up.
Let's face it, those complaining are those that jumped in when the stock was already too high. If you can't afford to lose, then don't play the game. Hold on to stocks that consistently beat their OWN estimates and stop worrying about what some analyst says. - mobilehavoc, on 04/22/2008, -2/+6I think in the long run it's a good stock to hold but damn it's been a rollercoaster as of late. $10 says the stock drops after earnings are announced (even if they're good)
- scruffles, on 04/23/2008, -0/+3They don't make money from OSX other than the computers it sells. Why would you want your loss-leader product to take off in sales?
- keozen, on 04/22/2008, -1/+4Buried for getting the theme song in my head........ Wooo hoo!
- fahrvergnuugen, on 04/22/2008, -1/+4I second that. Although GOOG has been more like the "tower of terror" than a rollercoaster.
- MacParrot, on 04/22/2008, -2/+5Really? In what way? Everything I said you could (or should) apply to ANY company you're considering buying stock in. Don't be a dumbass
- kelly, on 04/22/2008, -1/+4Actually, Apple is the only computer manufacturer that is bucking trends of slowing sales and is outpacing the rest of the industry.
- funkytaco, on 04/22/2008, -0/+2True. It was just advice.
- isaaccs, on 04/23/2008, -0/+2yeah, jobs is a great salesman.
but honestly, get with the times. similarly spec'd machines are similar in price, regardless if mac or pc. have been for some time now. factor in an arguably better operating system, and how is that paying more for less? - MurphyMac, on 04/22/2008, -8/+10I plan to hold for the next five years at least. Every point gained in market share is big $$$$ on the bottom line. The growth in Mac sales will snowball. Bought my first batch at $30. Bought more at various times, including the recent dip down to 122. I don't worry about the dips.
- RyomaNagare, on 04/22/2008, -0/+2Not really because they'd have to offer tech support for *****-buitby12yo machines, with a zillion hardware variations, it would be suicide
- jcweezy, on 04/22/2008, -1/+2Steve jobs has clearly figured out how to dominate the internet. what we have seen from Apple is only the beginning. Great article!
- hexydes, on 04/22/2008, -1/+2If only you guys could get some more money...I know...what about the Internet! The Internet has lots of money! Surely Canada could have some of the Internet money...
- eatrains, on 04/22/2008, -1/+2Apple tried licensing Mac OS in the '90s and it nearly killed them. Their sales are booming right now. There's simply no reason for them to go down that route.
- bc289, on 04/22/2008, -0/+1why don't you short it then?
- MacParrot, on 04/22/2008, -2/+32008 Q2 ended at the end of March. Q1 ended December 31st. The fiscal year traditionally starts the previous October. So accordingly fiscal 2008 started October 1st 2007.
- spectre_25gt, on 04/22/2008, -2/+2I'm with you. I just bought at 133. I'm wishing now that I had enough money to buy more. I see good things happening for AAPL.
- listrophy, on 04/22/2008, -2/+2I'd love to hold on, but the all-powerful mortgage downpayment is looming. Still, my $45 shares should prove useful.
- liuite, on 04/22/2008, -1/+1wouldn't the sales of os x really take off if they allow unmodified os x to intall on new OEM machines from the likes of Dell and HP? given that xp sales will be halted soon.
- larryjr88, on 04/23/2008, -2/+1A sucker is born every 4 seconds... this means more profit for Apple.
- Swarms, on 04/22/2008, -5/+2Since when is unemployment a problem?
- inactive, on 04/22/2008, -4/+1"Steve jobs has clearly figured out how to dominate the internet."
How do you figure that? When MS is still 90 percent of the desktops, and Dell, HP, and ACER all trounce on Apple in comparison?
The only thing jobs is good off is milking money from people. They sell fewer computers, have a higher amount of Advertisement, yet still make a higher net profit? That's because YOU PAY MORE from Apple and get less. Simple math, but that might be too much for Apple fans to grasp. - inactive, on 04/22/2008, -9/+4Apple will have to take a loss like everyone else, people without jobs dont buy so many computers.
- MISking, on 04/22/2008, -7/+1I didn't think the second quarter was over
- wukillabee, on 04/22/2008, -9/+2uh oh, MAC FANBOY ALERT!
