- badqat, on 10/30/2009, -7/+51It's time for a change. "Get a Mac" campaign is tired and old. Even John Hodgman's brilliance is being wasted in these spots that are wearing thin.
- FaeR, on 10/31/2009, -3/+38Buried as incorrect:
http://gizmodo.com/5394060/apple-ad-god-lee-clow-i ... - Echuu, on 10/31/2009, -4/+18This think different ad is so brilliant, why can't they go back and be classy once again, they make mac users look like douches.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=USn5t5nQWU8 - seltaeb4, on 10/31/2009, -9/+23So "Macs are toys," but your PC is great for games.
Cognitive dissonance... - atroxodisse, on 10/31/2009, -2/+13I have to say I like Justin Long but the I'm a mac and I'm a pc ads just seemed condescending. Why would I want to switch to a computer who insults me for not buying it?
- runeasgar, on 10/30/2009, -3/+13One of their offices is right next to mine ^_^
I'm not sure if this is a good or bad thing - but Apple's advertising has been extremely effective. - lastmaster, on 10/31/2009, -3/+13Nice, I have been wanting my ass to get sucked for a while. Time to get a mac!
- milkmage, on 10/31/2009, -2/+12so you "work" at getting high ***** scores?
- NiftyG, on 10/31/2009, -0/+10For those too lazy to click on the link, here's Lee Clow's letter to all in the blogosphere:
Hey Everyone:
So we tried to promote Duncan Milner because of the great job he's been doing leading the Media Arts Lab and look at how the blogosphere decided to make it a conversation about me.
As you all know, I'm here every day meddling in everything that goes on, pushing the creative on many brands including keeping an eye on Apple.
I remain Chairman of MAL, Global Creative Director of Media Arts and Chief Creative Officer of TBWA Worldwide.
I'm not going anywhere.
Love, Lee - stuffradio, on 10/31/2009, -2/+11That's a terrible slogan, that's why you're not working in advertising.
- krisrm, on 10/31/2009, -4/+11*by spouting lies and general nonsense about competitor's products.
- awall1987, on 10/31/2009, -2/+9Yeah I hate companies that sell things and try to make money!
Greedy bastards. - Nubli, on 10/31/2009, -10/+17I'm glad to see this ***** go. The whole "I'm a PC, I'm a Mac" commercials were sensationalist at best. So while the guy was good at his job, all he was really doing was exploiting the masses of moronic americans who believe a PC acts exactly like it does on those personified commercials. If your PC runs slow, crashes, and has a lot of viruses, STOP DOWNLOADING RANDOM *****!
One man's folly is another man's gain I suppose. - blackinthmiddle, on 10/31/2009, -1/+8I used to work for Chiat for three years. I'm a programmer, so take what I say with a grain of salt. To me, all of the great ideas came from the kids right out of college. The atmosphere changed close to when I left, but for the most part their were a lot of drunk kids right out of college who came up with these ideas. My guess is they'll be fine without him.
- swmbuk, on 10/31/2009, -1/+7Just for the record I was being extremely sarcastic.
- chicagospur, on 10/31/2009, -7/+13Snow Leopard = Mac Vista
- techdever, on 10/31/2009, -2/+8Safari crashes 2-3 times daily for me. Expose is sluggish even on my 8core MP. The guest / delete all user data bug still isn't fixed (10.6.2 which contains the fix isn't released yet). And the list goes on
- Charlie1er, on 10/31/2009, -3/+8...and Safari 4 (since snow leopard)
- stuffradio, on 10/31/2009, -1/+6I don't get viruses, the Mac is partly for someone who has no knowledge of how to avoid viruses. Just don't be stupid and you won't get viruses.
- inactive, on 10/31/2009, -12/+17Macs will always be toys to me that hipsters use at starbucks. I like PC because I have work to get done and still enjoy that whole thing called gaming. :)
- haikuFU, on 10/31/2009, -0/+5They should just rerun that ad completely unmodified. It's one ad you just can't seem to look away from.
- stuffradio, on 10/31/2009, -2/+6My mac mini crashes. Get a clue.
- swmbuk, on 10/31/2009, -3/+7*edit* On second thoughts ***** my reply, seltaeb4 puts its perfectly...
- kitsua, on 10/31/2009, -3/+7They're also used by all the people who make all the albums you like, the films you watch and the vast majority of media and design you consume, but I guess because you only see them in Starbucks, that means no professionals use them.
Have fun with your games, fanboy. - jakem1, on 10/31/2009, -5/+9I'd tell you but all my documentation was deleted when I logged into the guest account.
- monodelasno, on 10/31/2009, -3/+7I'll continue to just recycle the same old tired cliches, ad naseum, until somebody offers me more money.
- inactive, on 10/31/2009, -19/+23apple sucks ass.
- lead2thehead, on 10/31/2009, -1/+5>> STOP DOWNLOADING RANDOM *****
After you format the hard drive and reinstall the OS, of course. - lead2thehead, on 10/31/2009, -4/+7That ad campaign was brilliant. There is no disputing that Mac sales have skyrocketed since they started doing those.
- aristotle0dude, on 10/31/2009, -2/+5So tell us exhale99, how do those hipsters afford macs in the first place? Maybe they are getting stuff done while you are working on high scores?
- tajin19, on 10/31/2009, -2/+5I couldn't agree more. The reason they have as much market share as they do, is because of fanbois, not the actual quality of their product.
- kevinmoore, on 10/31/2009, -2/+5@stuff,
Unless you're talking about Windows software, what type of programming can't be done on a Mac? - NSResponder, on 11/01/2009, -1/+4" I am a typical Digg user."
...and a talented satirist. Well done.
-jcr - Sniper, on 10/31/2009, -2/+4Maybe not a lie, but they are hypocrites:

Who's spending all their money on advertising again? - lorem1000, on 10/31/2009, -1/+3I hope you are not surprised to walk into a thread about insider brand news to see brand supporters.
- Swift2, on 10/31/2009, -0/+2This is just a retirement, kiddies. The story tries to make it sound like something about Apple. It's not.
- awall1987, on 10/31/2009, -3/+5That's right! If your PC has viruses, cut back on using one of it's most basic functions. I watch the dirtiest of porn on my mac and it never gets any slower and I never get badware.
I'm not saying that viruses don't exist for OS X, but why would you use an OS that limits your behavior like that.
People spend so much money and or time dealing with the virus/badware issue, why would a smart person feel good about a decision like that? - jonahan52, on 11/01/2009, -0/+2Well maybe you should design that stuff for a Mac I'd bet you'd get some market from that.
- rampage88, on 10/31/2009, -0/+2I like the music video ads. Apple should go back to that.
- Sniper, on 10/31/2009, -11/+13Hopefully now the Mac ads will stop lying to peoples faces.
- bugalou, on 10/31/2009, -1/+3Mac needs a new commercial scheme. Make vs PC is played out and the latest ones about Windows 7 come off as desperate (even though apple has no reason to come off that way, more the reason to change it.)
- kevinmoore, on 11/01/2009, -0/+2@stuff,
Yeah, I said that already. If one develops software exclusively for Windows then it would be rather stupid to buy a Mac. If one's development is a bit more diverse, one could buy a Mac and run Windows in a VM and develop for just about *everything*. - Gibletoid, on 11/02/2009, -0/+2If I brought my mini to Starbucks, I would look extra silly.
I think the mini is the only machine from Apple worth getting. If you have a need for a silent machine with decent specs that will play 1080 content without a stutter, there are few in the same range.
Silence costs a premium. - ohreilly, on 11/01/2009, -0/+2That's because the diehard Apple fanboys only have themselves to blame.
- pyrates, on 11/01/2009, -0/+2@lead2theheadlead2thehead
I was wondering when the fanboys were gonna come out and justify this bug existing in snow leopard. Trying to down play it still doesn't excuse it for existing.
What other data loss bugs are there though:
1. In Leopard there was a bug that caused you to lose data if you lost the connection to whatever you were moving data to without it checking if the data had been finished moving over. Fixed.
2. If you tried to open a file and save it that was on your Windows Home Server, it became corrupt. Fixed.
3. Now Ubuntu 9.10 when doing an upgrade install, if you used the ext 4 file system, any new file saved afterwards that is at least 512 mb isn't saved correctly, therefore leaving itself corrupted. Not Fixed.
I don't defend any bug when it happens in any product. It's there and should be fixed. Down playing it to make it less serious then it is does a dis service to the product in question in forcing that company to make that product better. - zan6669, on 11/03/2009, -0/+1I have many Macs. I work for a company that's authorized by Apple. I'm an engineer. I write scripts and I diagnose hardware and software problems for Apple.
Their OS is innovative, yet boring. Their commercials are funny, yet bland. Microsoft's advertising is abysmally bland and not innovative.
Never in my life will I use my profession, nor the tools I use to compute to define myself as a person. Both Apple and Microsoft are guilty of trying to infiltrate society and the people who attempt to defend each other, and the people who try to influence me. All I want is total control over my own OS. That's why I bought a Netbook and installed Ubuntu.
What a great freakin' OS. - awall1987, on 11/01/2009, -0/+1No i'm never against limiting moronic behavior, but you act as if viruses/malware/adware/etc. can be totally avoided while using windows if you simply know how to skillfully navigate the internet. Sure you can avoid some bad stuff by not downloading free internet games, etc., but most of the viruses are the result of the laziness of the more novice Windows user.
You are basically required to use some sort of virus/malware/adware software (free or otherwise) on top being conscious of what may or may not damage your computer while surfing the internet. It is a chore and a lot of users don't want to, or aren't experienced enough to do it.
My point remains, WHY? Why would a novice user who only users a computer for basic purposes deal with it if they don't have to? Windows is not the most popular OS because it is better, it is the most popular OS because it is common. People who don't have experience buy what they see people using around them. You can debate Mac vs.PC all day from the position of a more advanced user, but for my grandma, OS X is the only way to go.
Stop acting like viruses/badware only come from improper use of a computer. You have to have a virus software solution, and if that virus software does not cover spyware/adware/malware you need another piece of software to cover that. They need to be run weekly (at least) for most basic users. IT IS A CHORE for all Windows users, and there is really no reason to put up with it for the most part.
From the standpoint of a basic user, these commercials do a great job of pointing out the fact that there is another option.... one without the chores. That said, they do annoy me because I am not a basic user, and I do not use just one OS. - inactive, on 10/31/2009, -5/+6Damn, some mad fanbois in here. Theres a reason after all these years Apple still has the market share that they do. ;)
- swmbuk, on 10/31/2009, -15/+16I hate Apple. I hate the way they sell stuff and try make the most profit they can. I hate the way their computers focus on aesthetics, why should computers ever look good? I hate the way they don't use a normal OS like Windows! I hate the way all mac users are rich bitches and so smug! I hate those smarmy ads on tv. I like to comment on Apple stories though. I am a typical Digg user.
