Apple's Mac mini Core Duo reviewed
engadget.com — Nevertheless, Apple bumped its most minuscule Macs by tossing in Intel Core Duo processors, while leaving just about everything else (including price points) the same. In case you've been dreaming up a homegrown media center or recording studio, and need to know if the revamped mini would fit the bill, Macworld's review crew has the scoop

http://www.macworld.com/2006/09/reviews/minis2006/index.php?lsrc=mwrss- stisaac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17I'm so annoyed by people linking to blog entries about news that I'm always tempted to bury their interesting stories.
- xr56n44, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5***** ASSENDGADGET. it is the fcuking ***** website in existence.
link to the real article, dammit - steeel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3That was a lame blog
- Jumangi, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2If they would just make the system a little bigger so it could have even just one TV tuner then it would be a great media/DVR system.
- LaughingMan11, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8If you want them to throw in a TV tuner, would you want a standard definition analog tv tuner, or one of the fancy new HD ones? Or both? How about cablecard support? You want that too, since we're getting pie in the sky?
As much as that would be nice to make the Mac mini into a DVR (there are 3rd party USB and Firewire add onsolutions that cost as little as $99), don't hold your breath for Apple to build it in... adding a tuner complicates matters for setting up the device, does not guarantee compatibility with cable tv services, and above all else, really piss off the big networks that Apple is working with for the iTunes store.
Apple is already selling TV shows on line for $$... I doubt they'll stop that service in favor of DVR any time soon. I don't like this idea either, but that's the reality.

- mastercheif, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9I'm sorry, there is no way this article makes the front page if "aaaz" was not a top 20 user. Random engadget articles linking to a PC mag review do not make it to the front page in 8 hours, most of the time not at all.
- mastercheif, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Nevermind, just went trough his submissions, he just submits every engadget article....
- aaryn, on 10/12/2007, -6/+4Comments section is not for whining about why its on the front page, it's about comments relevant to the article posted
- titlesaysitall, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7Do we really need a review of a speedbumped machine that's been around since February?
- aaryn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Do we really need people complaining everytime they don't like an article? Keep comments on topic and digg is a happier place.
@ clintweir
I have the Core Solo with 2 gigs and it's a great machine, you can also upgrade the CPU if you are desperate. There is nothing foolish about your purchase, if you bought a mini today it would also eventually be an old model as well, enjoy your purchase :)

- gimianame, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1i really wanna get one of these, but I just wont until it has native dual monitor support
- UrsusMorologus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Are the minis able to run OS/X server? [ie, it's not disabled in software, right?] I want a mac server to play with but don't want to deal with their rack unit.
- xr56n44, on 10/12/2007, -3/+41 - mac mini needs 2 nic ports so it can used as a firewall/server
2 - for $599, they should at least throw in a keyboard & mouse, the cheap bastards - artman, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4The Mac Mini is for "cheap bastards" who plug in their existing USB keyboards and mice. The iMac is the one for the switchers who will want an all-in-one.
- SimonKay, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I just got one a couple of days ago (1.83 with 2 GB of ram). So far it has been a positive experience.
The Core Duo rules! I can run more plugins in Logic Pro 7. Even Finder and iTunes run faster.
A big surprise was Front Row. Very smooth front end for my iTunes library. My only complaint is that you are limited to video files purchased from iTunes.- bigredgpk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3ahh... you are dead wrong about the video files... I've played many Diggnation Podcast on my mac mini using frontrow... along with Entourage and The Office downloads...

- pugfug90, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1These new iMacs use Core !2 Duos, not Core (1) Duo.
This would be like saying that these new iMacs are Pentium 3 instead of Pentium 4, Core 2 brings many enhancements to the Core series.
