This is sickening..enough! - inactive, on 09/14/2008, -8/+83Since when Apple fanboys ever had a choice?
When you want to choose on your own, you don't go and buy a Mac. - inactive, on 09/14/2008, -6/+75I'm going to take a risk here. I don't think it's a good idea but... here goes nothing...
***** APPLE - mills84, on 09/14/2008, -1/+59As far as i'm concerned after you have bought and paid for a product its yours to do as you want with
- firo85, on 09/14/2008, -1/+48Y are apple looking for ways to make people hate them?
- 0Xonox0, on 09/14/2008, -0/+39"Apple's patent explains that "some people have taken it upon themselves to remove the sensor from the special pocket of the Nike shoe and place it in inappropriate locations - shoelaces, for example - or place it on non-Nike shoes"."
The people paid for the shoe already right? I don't see why they should care. - oblique63, on 09/14/2008, -0/+39the more time passes, the more ironic Apple's '1984' ad seems to be...
- stevehl42, on 09/14/2008, -0/+38um, wtf
- inactive, on 09/14/2008, -1/+39I'm going to sit back and watch as fanboys pummel me into the ground.
- cgbspender, on 09/14/2008, -0/+35And what happens when you put the sensor and the rfid in unauthorized shoes?
Sounds like a Bundy-ish idea to me. - inactive, on 09/14/2008, -3/+37Apple's next step: RFID chips in your brain control anti-apple thoughts.
- Paranoidmarvin, on 09/14/2008, -0/+30I bet they'd enforce the wearing of jeans and mock turtle-necks
- freezz0823, on 09/14/2008, -2/+28Its wrong because when you sell something you are no longer the owner and you have no saying in how the product should be used.
- blyrehs, on 09/14/2008, -2/+28And here's a list of retailers that are piloting hidden RFID tags in consumer items:
http://digg.com/security/Fight_RFID_Tracking_By_Re ... - guyro, on 09/14/2008, -0/+23The full patent application can be seen here:
http://appft1.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=P ... - SOS84, on 09/14/2008, -1/+23And people call Microsoft evil (they are of course). But really, Apple is, and has been far worse than M$ for quite some time.
- wukillabee, on 09/14/2008, -6/+24lol apple with their ***** patents, ***** em
- anonymous1986, on 09/14/2008, -1/+18Can't really see how apple fanboys are going to defend this, oh well they'll probably find a way....
- pagno, on 09/14/2008, -0/+16RFID in clothing?! Are you ***** serious? Why am I called a nut when all these conspiracies seem to be coming true?
- Atsumori, on 09/14/2008, -2/+18You must really not like EULAs then
- pacokorn77, on 09/14/2008, -1/+17Sadly, that's the first thing I thought of when this popped up in my RSS feed.
- aargh01, on 09/14/2008, -0/+16Apple "fights" against DRM because everything they do is proprietary. They don't need DRM software because it is naturally built into everything they make, and they sue anybody who tries to circumvent that. So it looks good on paper when Steve Jobs says no to DRM but that fact is that their product structure is so restrictively proprietary that it actually works better than DRM in controlling what users do with their product.
- DeFex, on 09/14/2008, -0/+15anyone who buys this crap deserves it.
by the way. dont you have to buy the shoes to get the sensor thingy? so you paid for their shoes. what do they care if u use them or not? - Technoloki, on 09/14/2008, -2/+16Do these companies live in a bubble? More "Spore" anyone?
- SilverBlade2k, on 09/14/2008, -0/+13We don't need more RFID in products..we need less.
- inactive, on 09/14/2008, -0/+12This is roughly the same as saying "God works in mysterious ways". It's a cop out answer.
- repruhsent, on 09/14/2008, -0/+11Funny, this and that whole thing about the guy with the podcast iPhone app, and I've read all this within 24 hours.
I know that this isn't really related to OS X and things, but honestly... think about this. Apple's this evil and look at their market share. Now, compare to how evil Microsoft is with their market share. How much more evil do you think Apple would be if those percentages were reversed? They'd be even worse than Microsoft, I bet, and on the desktop/laptop end, they control the hardware AND the software.
This along with several other Apple mis-steps within the last while has me thinking about jumping ship. Good thing my Intel Mac will run Linux/Windows as well as OS X. - musicmaneire, on 09/14/2008, -0/+11You're not getting dugg down? It's a first for an anti-apple comment!
- ethana2, on 09/15/2008, -0/+11I'll give /them/ an 'inappropriate location' where they can place their sensors...
- arjie, on 09/14/2008, -3/+14Forgiven, because you know not what you say. I couldn't care less how much money Apple makes, I want a good product. Do you want to have to pay for inferior clothing (or pedometers) just because they're the only ones that will interface properly?
Standards are there for a reason: interoperability. The objective should be to enable the best product to be accessible to consumers. - abajaj2280, on 09/14/2008, -0/+10I feel bad for whoever has to review Apple's 2187492834 patents everyday.
***** you Apple. - Rusty0010, on 09/14/2008, -2/+12Wow Greedy Idiots
- tupperbacharach, on 09/14/2008, -0/+9No. Selling copies of your CD is probably breaking copyright law.
However, you could modify what's on the CD to play/run on equipment for which it was not intended, regardless of what is stated in the EULA. - Khast, on 09/14/2008, -0/+9Wow...I can see Apple making their iPod require you to dress a certain way, or it won't play. (Got to have a certain dress code)
People, do we really want companies to have DRM embedded into the clothing, shoes, ect so that they can tell us how to dress? How about to track our every moves?
Well. I'd suggest trying to stop this disturbing movement before it actually starts. - triont, on 09/14/2008, -0/+9The things you own, end up owning you.
- Plasmatica, on 09/14/2008, -0/+9We could be outraged at the companies responsible for this...but the ones who are actually to blame are the people who will buy this *****.
- tnoy, on 09/14/2008, -0/+8@rnawky
Modifying a radio device to operate on frequencies that would cause interference with other services would be breaking federal laws. You can modify that walkie-talkie in anyway you want, provided you're operating within the FCC's guidelines.
You really suck at making analogies. You're 0 for 2 so far. - CoreyTamas, on 09/14/2008, -0/+8This is one of those stories that I had to read and re-read to actually believe it was true. I'm still hoping that it's some sort of misinterpretation of the data. Otherwise, the Onion will have a really hard time coming up with something to beat this one with.
- inactive, on 09/14/2008, -1/+9so what, you express your individuality by buying exactly the same computer that all the other "non-conformists" buy?
- theskillwithin, on 09/14/2008, -0/+7They Wont Make Them IF You Don't Buy Them!
Do you really want this? - inactive, on 09/14/2008, -2/+9Because they know that ppl are too addicted to their ***** to go to someone else
- Vodd9, on 09/14/2008, -3/+10Boycott Apple and Nike. Send them a letter saying that you'll do so unless they declare that they abandon their project. Also, stop blaming big corporations if you're not happy with what they have to offer. You still have to choice to go somewhere else.
- tupperbacharach, on 09/14/2008, -0/+7To any prospective customers of the "Just Do It" company and/or the "Think Different" company:
Before you actually buy their product, please "Just Think." - kotatsu, on 09/14/2008, -2/+9'Y' are you too lazy to spell properly?
- moolcool, on 09/14/2008, -0/+7The stupidest thing about DRM and technologies like this is that the consumer has to pay for R&D/Manufacturing of products that aren't convenient to them and that they dont want in the first place, essentially paying a premium for a feature designed to restrict the consumer. Its like Dell selling a computer with a terabyte hard drive but if you want them to unlock it you have to mail them money.
- edd17, on 09/14/2008, -1/+8Is that how you define yourself? Really?
- coldkill3r, on 09/15/2008, -0/+7Time to go back in your cage Pedobear.
- moolcool, on 09/14/2008, -1/+8IRONY: Apple has (RED) products and then partners with Nike, a company renowned for slave labor.
