- sithmat, on 10/12/2007, -5/+17$1700 of that $7 billion will be coming from me and my brand spankin' new 20'' iMac.
- marnaq, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Blog is actually latin and means credibility.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9With the new Mac Book Core 2 Duos I suggest they were released just in peak time as well
- gwjc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10A year ago there was an article submitted by CLIFFosakaJAPAN about whether or not they'd have a 1.5billion dollar Christmas:
http://digg.com/apple/Is_Apple_on_its_way_to_its_first_ever_$1.5_billion_iPod_Christmas_ - terminality, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9£800 for my macbook...
- cypherz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Obviously everyone who posted regarding this article. Including you.
- beatmonger, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Although you'd *never* know from visiting that website, some of us own Apple stock and welcome this prediction.
- cypherz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6The Zune is big news right now, thats for sure. In a year, everyone will have forgotten about it, and it will be another chapter in MS's history of failed hardware products.
- PhantomBantam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Nvidia and ATI fanboys did not see "their" companies almost die, then rise to its former glory.
- Wootery, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Yeah, I mean, the MacBook could never hope to outsell the iPod!
Oh wait... - airniqueel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I think wingnut21 means the touch-screen video ipod that has been rumored for quite some time.
- airniqueel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Actually, most people who have purchased ipods before are willing to purchase another ipod for whatever reason they see fit. My ipod mini (1st generation) is about 2.5 years old. At this point, my mp3 player is starting to hiccup a little bit and the battery definitely does not last very long. You could say that I am in the market for a new mp3 player this holiday. I think it has more to do with the fact that people who purchased their ipods a while ago are probably going to "upgrade" to a newer ipod.
- n0rth_star, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6iPod increasingly has been the greatest thing ever to happen to that company. A true lifesaver. Most importantly, Apple are cool again. That marketing perception is priceless, as you can see with everyone bitching about an unreleased Vista.
- steal_apps01, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5they already have one.
- DiZASTiX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Whats with people making images of tables in their articles instead of just using css or html to make it?
- Quix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2One would be wrong assuming that. The iPod may own the DAP market now, but the DAP market has a LOT of growing room left. So there's still tremendous opportunity for Apple in that space.
And combining an iPod nano with cell phone functionality could be a HUGE market for Apple, making the current iPod market look miniscule in comparison. - pierrefilms, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Apple sold 14 million last holiday season and every year has gotten better so why would it now be absurd?
- DonCarcharo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2$1700 for my new 20" iMac as well. They got $999 from me last quarter too when I purchased a MacBook with the free iPod nano with AIO printer promotion. That's nearly $3K of Apple gear in one year. A record for me. :)
/I'm a designer so the gear does come in handy.
//It's also tax deductible, which is nice. - norman64, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6I predict ??
I predict ??
Are you frickin kidding me?!
I predict, by Christmas you'll still be a virgin living in your mom's basement. Let's see which prediction is more accurate - Rigbymatt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1In this case by quite some time we mean 3 weeks after the original video iPod's introduction
- cypherz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I have an elderly 40Gb 3G iPod. I replaced the battery (trivial to do for anyone remotely dexterous) about 6 months ago and it is still going strong. I'm trying to hold out for the mythical Touchscreen Video iPod.
I've owned many MP3 players in various attempts to find the "perfect mp3 gadget" and I keep coming back to the iPod. I've had other players with more features but in the end, I never really use the extra features. I haven't seen any other player that integrates so well with Windows and OS X (I use both, well, and Linux/UNIX too but only as server OS's). The iPods ease of use and comfort factor is still the best.
I'd definitely buy another.
As far as Apple's projected profits go, I'm somewhat skeptical, but neither would I be completely floored if Apple manages to meet or exceed 7 billion. They are selling notebooks and iMacs left and right here in Memphis. Its amazing to me the number of folks that are finally getting around to giving OS X a try. The lure of safety (proven or not) and the possibility of running Windows as well is garnering Apple a new user-base. - iigloo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1The masses don't need/want a touch-widescreen iPod. It's the shuffles and the nanos that will be sold a ***** of.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Then everyone will be bitching about how easily it gets ***** up.
- mirunit, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2One one assume, by now, that the portable music market is almost completely saturated with Ipod's etc. I think the only way they would be able to see these predicted sales is if they released a new Ipod with a good number of new features, not just a new size and paint job.
- steal_apps01, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3They won't sell as much iPods, why because mostly everyone who wants one has it, they either bought it got it as a gift or stole it.
People arn't willing to pay 200 - 350 CND for they "new" iPod, I know i'm happy with my b&w 4g iPod and I payed twice what they cost now. - melfster, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0I just got sansa e200 and I am very satisfied with it. For half the price of ipod nano you really can't go wrong. I guess if you want to be trendy go with ipod other wise there a lot of better mp3 players out there.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1This is just stupid. He is precting a similar increase as last year. When they introduced a major upgrade rigth around the holiday shoopping season. And when far fewer people had one.
To predict 20 million iPods sold this quarter is absurd. - Jammerdelray, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2I expect it will be alot lower than that with the release of zune.
- wingnut21, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Eh, maybe if they would introduce the video ipod in a week, which won't happen.
- Rice, on 10/12/2007, -7/+4Paid, not payed, you *****.
- mirunit, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2What exactly were the previous "failed chapters" in microsoft's hardware products?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1The only reason is because of the ipod. Powerbook? Please...
- Rigbymatt, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2if they dont randomly shut down, Apples in for some serious money
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -10/+3Who is everybody? Please tell me you don't think you care extrapolate what is said on Digg to the general population.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -12/+4Yeah, and? This is just some guy "predicting". Doesn't mean it will happen.
- DirtySnachez, on 10/12/2007, -14/+5My predicition is for many returns under warranty around the end of May..
- mugenkeiji, on 10/12/2007, -14/+2Who gives a *****?
Even Nvidia and ATI fanboys are not so pathetic in their adoration of a *consumer electronics company* that they start making predictions of how many people will buy video cards in the leadup to christmas, and gleefully wet their pants at the prospect of 'their' company being profitable.
You need to get out more, mac losers.
