- dhenke, on 06/22/2009, -3/+74Nice to see Apple picking up after its smelly business partner, AT&T.
- buckyballs, on 06/22/2009, -2/+50I may criticize Apple a lot, but to be fair, this isn't their fault, so it's actually rather good of them to offer the credit when it's AT&T's mistake.
- zibberwiff, on 06/22/2009, -4/+45Oh my gawd, would you people stop bitching and complaining? Apple are under no obligation to give you anything at all, no other company would, you'd be told to stfu and deal with the delays, which by the way, isn't even their fault! And they're not just giving money back to themselves, that money has to be paid to the artists, television companies, app developers etc. and it's coming out of their pocket, not yours.
Shut up and accept your free stuff with some humility. - AmyVernon, on 06/22/2009, -4/+21Amazing, considering how most of these were pre-ordered, so it's not as if AT&T were caught unawares. However, I have to say that not only did AT&T get me connected rather quickly, but when we got disconnected during a call transfer early on in the process, the CSR called us back! I've never had that happen before, so AT&T totally got points for trying. Though it's kind funny that we got disconnected.
- inactive, on 06/22/2009, -1/+14The customer will gain some music, and the record labels and artists will be paid accordingly.
- Soragon, on 06/22/2009, -3/+14Mr. tonychenyj,
I think you've gotten too much into the-majority-of-digg-users-hate-apple-so-i-shall-jump-onto-the-bandwagon-too-and-look-cool-so-that-people-digg-me-up. - TheSnuffster, on 06/22/2009, -0/+11The article says it was "AT&T activation servers."
- mrBitch, on 06/22/2009, -0/+9@ santaliqueur, RE: " .. Mention Apple on Digg, and some closet fag mentions gay sex before you do. Always."
Wow, you're right, and I just checked petersonca's digg history, and it looks like he has an incredible interest in gay sex... - Jonmad17, on 06/22/2009, -4/+13***** AT&T!
- inactive, on 06/22/2009, -3/+11Your comment = valueless to us.
- jelstro, on 06/22/2009, -0/+8I can't digg this up enough.
Everyone who grew up in the instant access to information age that is "the internet" thinks they are entitled to everything for free. Wifi should be free... music should be free... software should be free... 3G access should be free... and it should all happen instantly... MINE MINE MINE!! They don't have to give you anything at all. They're not obligated to do anything since this is ATT's problem. And if it's not written into the contract that you signed with ATT at the time of purchase, then they don't owe you anything either.
I've actually heard customers in the Apple Store say they should receive every new iPhone for the rest of their lifetime for free because they paid so much for the first one. Seriously, does anyone realize how absurdly powerful and complex smartphones are and the amount of research and development that is poured into them? $199 plus $70 a month with a few hiccups along the way is more than fair. It's a luxury item and if you can't afford that then don't complain.
*face palm* - inactive, on 06/22/2009, -4/+12Mention Apple on Digg, and some closet fag mentions gay sex before you do. Always.
- wheezy360, on 06/22/2009, -0/+7Why is the headline a question?
- Myonosken, on 06/22/2009, -1/+8No, because Apple have royalties etc to pay to labels and artists. They will be losing quite a bit of money across the world on this.
- inactive, on 06/22/2009, -2/+8why is this news?
- lilrabbit129, on 06/22/2009, -0/+6Yes not as much, but much more than them writing no checks at all.
- kodek, on 06/22/2009, -0/+6While trying to get my iPhone manually activated, I told the CSR if there was a problem that I was using the same line on my old phone to talk to her. She said, "you're using the same line?," and at that same instant, the call dropped.
Two minutes later, my iPhone was activated and she called back to apologize that she reset the line without warning me. I told her that it was my fault for calling from the same line, and thanked her for activating my phone after waiting for almost 10 hours for it to activate on its own.
Took me three calls to 611 till I got someone who could help me, but I'm glad I insisted. Points for AT&T from me too! - inactive, on 06/22/2009, -0/+5clearly you didn't read the article
- MikeDugg, on 06/22/2009, -1/+6Well said!
- buckyballs, on 06/22/2009, -0/+5You obviously have no idea how business works.
When a song is bought on iTunes for 99 cents, Apple takes a cut, lets say 30 cents (I don't know the exact figure).
That still means that Apple has to pay the artist/label 69 cents.
As for iPhone apps, Apple still has to pay the developer their 70% (so for a 99 cent app, Apple still has to pay them around 70 cents).
This costs Apple. As I said, it's AT&T's error, but Apple have been good enough to say sorry on their behalf. - gijoeler, on 06/22/2009, -16/+21So Apple is giving 30$ per customer to themselves?
- chongli, on 06/22/2009, -3/+7Yes, but not as much as they'd lose if they wrote cheques for $30 to everyone.
- MacParrot, on 06/22/2009, -0/+4Gay sex apparently is what he does
- Myonosken, on 06/22/2009, -0/+4Apple don't sell the songs at zero cost to themselves. This will mean they lose money, which is pretty good when it's AT&T's fault.
- inactive, on 06/22/2009, -1/+5In your moment of anger, you dropped these
. . . - mrBitch, on 06/22/2009, -1/+4gee, you really should be talking to AT&T about those issues...
- M4NiC5, on 06/22/2009, -0/+3$800 phone? Where the F are you buying phones? I bought this phone Friday for $300 and w/o any problems.
- SaintStryfe, on 06/22/2009, -0/+3I feel kinda bad my G3S activation went so smoothly. I could use 30$ in iTunes credit.
- dhenke, on 06/22/2009, -1/+4Volley of baseless aggression?
- dhenke, on 06/22/2009, -3/+6Or when all those zunes stopped working on new year's
- spazzcat, on 06/22/2009, -0/+3They just announced they sold a 1 million phones over the weekend. I know not all of them where with ATT, but no one should be surprised the network had issues.

- Soragon, on 06/22/2009, -0/+2***** THE MOBILE CARRIERS!
- mdman, on 06/23/2009, -0/+2$30 credit toward itunes is not ab$30 check.....
why should I use itunes when I can download all the MP3s I want for free? - badbadmike, on 06/22/2009, -2/+4A "30-dollar iTunes Store credit" does not equal 30 dollars.
- Deepmist, on 06/22/2009, -0/+2I walked out of the Apple store friday morning with a fully functional phone using my old Sprint number. Took about 20 minutes alltogether.
- Dugglous, on 06/22/2009, -0/+2Talk about being unappreciative. Apple could have just said sorry.
I would love for Best Buy to offer me $30 gift cards every time they run out of stock on my preorders. - stuffradio, on 06/22/2009, -0/+2I would just use that $30 to buy some high quality apps on the app store!
- theblt, on 06/23/2009, -0/+1What could they have that would have satisfied YOU then (for a mistake caused by the carrier, not the manufacturer)? A free iPhone?
- MacParrot, on 06/22/2009, -0/+1As compared to your comment? Yeah they do OK
- inactive, on 06/22/2009, -1/+2My 3gs was delivered to my door at 2:30 Friday and was activated about 5 minutes later. Too easy!
- MacParrot, on 06/22/2009, -1/+2Seeing how you tested this on your family pets I'm sure this is great advice
- buckyballs, on 06/23/2009, -0/+1During activation, iTunes talks to AT&T. If iTunes tries to connect to AT&T, and AT&T don't respond because their server is overloaded, then it's not Apple's fault since they've done everything that they could and all they are expected to be able to do.
- Ludzer, on 06/22/2009, -0/+1Dugg up for the use of the word 'smelly'.
- Xavious85, on 06/22/2009, -1/+2I didn't notice anyone complaining about Apple...AT&T on the other hand though....
- carlosgon2, on 06/23/2009, -0/+1Hmm… you could buy some kickass iPhone games, maybe?¿
- deaftly, on 06/23/2009, -0/+1I'm Ron Burgundy?
- Gibletoid, on 06/22/2009, -0/+1Mine actually RRoD yesterday. it was lead in by some crazy in game graphics, but I was able to finish my race in PGR4. When I saw the video glitches I knew that was it. I was pretty sure after a restart it would RRoD, and it did, with an E74. I was prepared for the living hell that could be calling xbox support.
15 minutes later I had registered my 2 year old Xbox Elite, received a confirmation email from them, and been given a confirmation number by a human voice ( I chose to call and claim I have no internet so they would have to key it, helping control errors), and a box is in the mail for me to send back my box for a replacement.
It was a pleasant experience, as far as potentially unpleasant ones can be.
I had an equivalent problem with my iphone that was dropped in a bucket of fish water in the 1st week of the 3g rollout. I had to wait 2 weeks and waste hours before they even knew what to do with me. I was bounce form Fido to the Apple Store and back like a pinball, holding my soggy phone.
I understand why you are being dug down, but I FEEL YOUR PAIN BROTHER - carlosgon2, on 06/23/2009, -0/+1Heeh… I'd have love to become $29 Snow Leopard for free instead of $30 of iTunes cash! But… it works for me!!
