- heyimfromreddit, on 06/14/2009, -4/+226It's ridiculous that 1.5 hours of battery life is lost because of Flash. I can't wait until the day Flash is burning in web-hell with IE6 and Microsoft Comic Chat.
- wonderchemist, on 06/13/2009, -5/+201"Eight, freakin, hours."
- ethanator1088, on 06/14/2009, -5/+124That's pretty impressive.
- effer, on 06/14/2009, -5/+90It's often difficult to convey the usefulness of having a giant trackpad or a unibody chassis to people who haven't used a Macbook Pro in their daily life, but I think anyone can understand the importance of having increased battery life at no cost to weigh or size.

- macmcraeart, on 06/14/2009, -2/+73(waits patiently for the cold fusion powered MBP)
- alexology, on 06/14/2009, -0/+58if I dugg you any harder i'd have to get a new mouse
- BrendanSheehan, on 06/13/2009, -10/+67Say what you want, seriously. Do it now. Very impressive battery-life, unlike my AirBook :(

Sorry, but AirBook is even more annoying than when people call and iPod Touch "iTouch" - schmidt349, on 06/14/2009, -0/+47You do realize that lithium polymer batteries have been used in basically every iPod and iPhone for the last few years, right?
- bethomp, on 06/14/2009, -19/+65Lithium polymer batteries can also burst into flames if over charged or punctured,
See:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4OsBc8RqSKU - heyimfromreddit, on 06/14/2009, -7/+50I'd love to see the differences in battery life between Windows and OS X on the same laptop.
- emt1451, on 06/14/2009, -2/+43that makes a lot of sense.
- heyimfromreddit, on 06/14/2009, -3/+41Because laptops are meant to be portable.
- AppleMacStud, on 06/14/2009, -3/+39Yes it would. By doubling it's size, you now have a bulkier and clunkier laptop that looses it's portable appeal.
- InfiniteNothing, on 06/14/2009, -5/+41So... don't overcharge or puncture them. Actually, don't do that to any batteries.
- Skurt, on 06/14/2009, -0/+35Don't understand why someone who doesn't want to be associated with Apple in any way, would stop by an Apple thread to say such a thing?
You can just click right up at the top of the page where it says;
Customize
and uncheck the Apple box and you never have to see another Apple thread again :D - LeonardNimrod, on 06/14/2009, -3/+36With the extra heavy and large 9-cell battery, which takes it out of the class of the MBP. It also has a rating that is based on very minimal use, not an actual use standard that Apple has been using for years and Sony adopted last year. Check Anand’s site, they list the machine as getting well over the rating when in light use.
- slicecom, on 06/14/2009, -0/+33AMEN!
- LMN8R, on 06/14/2009, -0/+31Is there any reason why Windows-based laptop manufacturers haven't started using batteries like these yet? Or is it just a risk/investment Apple decided to take?
Any way to buy some sort of third-party batteries using this technology for, say, an HP or Lenovo notebook? - BossKey, on 06/14/2009, -0/+30You can't overcharge these batteries unless you hack the circuits. Every lithium rechargeable battery destined for consumers has protection circuitry that will never allow an overcharge due to the extreme hazard from that happening. You can leave it plugged in for days and it will never overcharge.
- cookingboy, on 06/14/2009, -6/+34From your link:
"Retail Price: $2,189"
Sorry....as a Mac user, I can't afford that PC
(15" Macbook Pro starts at $1700 btw, and the 13" Macbook Pro starts at $1100, just in case some troll starts yelling that every Mac costs $3000)
Oh sweet irony.... - Darkyuubi, on 06/14/2009, -1/+29Just for the record, you technically CAN replace your own battery. You just have to remove 10 really tiny screws....
That being said. WTF 8 hours. A battery claim that can actually be proven?
Wait whats that? Yes, I just got news that it IS snowing in hell. - scarz99, on 06/14/2009, -0/+26WANT.
- Rockarollr, on 06/14/2009, -11/+36So what do you do if your battery STILL runs out (no matter how long the charge lasts) and you're in a situation where you can't plug in to recharge but you *could* swap out your battery for a previously charged one - if only one was available? Can you say S.O.L.??
This built-in, non user-replaceable battery trend of Apple's really bothers me. This is coming from a long-time Apple customer, too. I currently own a 15" unibody Macbook Pro that was manufactured the last week of January 2009. It is an excellent machine that has a user-replaceable battery. When it comes time for me to upgrade my notebook computer at a later date, I may reconsider purchasing a new MBPro if Apple is still going with this built-in battery trend.
If the battery technology demands that the battery only be replaced by a "certified technician" then maybe someone, somewhere needs to consider that particular battery technology unworthy (or maybe even unsafe) to be used in a consumer notebook. Keep plugging at new technologies until a better method is discovered and then incorporate it into your products.
I'm all for improving battery life, but please make the batteries easy for the user to swap out on the go! - jmill987, on 06/14/2009, -0/+25When the snow leopard is released, there will be no survivors.
- InfiniteNothing, on 06/14/2009, -3/+28How is that unfair. Those are the current gen OSes
- Myztry, on 06/14/2009, -1/+25Eight hours is getting more towards a realistic threshold but until batteries can match a person's entire wake time, there's always going to be the curse of lugging a brick in the satchel.
There's still probably another 10 hours of charge time required before people can take a day trip away (like to work) and be confidently free of the brick. It should charge will you sleep, and need no other time. - lateralus, on 06/14/2009, -2/+26Just got the low end 13" macbook pro last week. I paid little attention to the battery claims because i know those are usually the most optimistic numbers a marketing team can come up with without being sued.
I have been completely impressed with what i've seen. I'm getting 9hrs in relatively light use (browsing + bluetooth mouse) and occasional xcode sessions. The system is on paranoid energy saving settings though...i.e, the screen dims after 1 minute of inactivity, but i wake it up immediately. - ekula, on 06/14/2009, -2/+25@dslfreakdude
Sorry, typo - *an.
EDIT: also you just used the noun "grammar" where I think you meant to use it in its adjective form - "grammatical"...
just sayin' - neonfunk, on 06/14/2009, -5/+28isn't it mac users that are concerned with image?
- bilbohicks, on 06/14/2009, -0/+23The reason you got Dugg down is that you are clearly an idiot.
- seastobble, on 06/14/2009, -1/+23and when snow leopard is released, it will increase the battery life further??
- inactive, on 06/14/2009, -8/+29When I read "Battery Life to Die For", I thought it was going to be a crappy pun for an exploding laptop battery article.
- itsmeee, on 06/14/2009, -4/+25I have a Unibody MBP and in Windows 7 I get half an hour to an hour less battery life then OS-X. I've noticed that it gets pretty hot and constantly has fans so I'm thinking its not clocking things down properly. I assume this would be the same for the new macbooks.
- afwjam, on 06/14/2009, -0/+21Don't worry Apple is working very hard to kill flash. Hello HTML 5 in safari on mac os x and the iphone. The iPhone being the real trojan horse here.
- schmidt349, on 06/14/2009, -5/+24Now that's a thought, especially considering that Microsoft is touting improved power management in Windows 7. Which is the greener OS?
- derektherock42, on 06/14/2009, -3/+22Apple claims that their 13-inch MacBook Pro consumes less power than a standard light bulb. Once you get that green, does it really matter exactly which company's greener to the twentieth decimal point?
- TSK05, on 06/14/2009, -5/+23They can be dangerous if the consumer is unaware. Pierce them and it's often a big fire with corrosive smoke. Overcharge them and same thing for sure.
- osko2052, on 06/14/2009, -0/+18That's depressing. I only get 1 hour.
- cookingboy, on 06/14/2009, -5/+2213" Macbook Pros starts at $1100....and 15" ones starts at $1700....
Just random information that you might find useful before you start trolling again next time.... - lonewalker, on 06/14/2009, -0/+16FYI second mouse button is built in, bottom right corner of trackpad
Can be enabled/disabled from sys prefs - Nosrac, on 06/14/2009, -0/+14When does the book come out?
- PoliticalMan922, on 06/14/2009, -13/+27Yeah...You've got to love the battery life. If I could afford a Mac, I may get one. JUST maybe.
- swmbuk, on 06/14/2009, -0/+13It totally throws off the Feng Shui in the trailer right?
- MacBandit, on 06/14/2009, -3/+16You do realize the T400 is over a third of an inch thicker don't you. So yes if you want to lug around a larger laptop you can get better battery life.
- Kerrigore, on 06/14/2009, -0/+13So you're admitting that you're someone who craves attention so desperately that you actively hate on and decry products that are popular simply so that you get attention from fans of that product, however negative that attention might be?
- InfiniteNothing, on 06/14/2009, -2/+15Huh, and with an LED backlight... you might be able to use it as a light bulb.
- krisrm, on 06/14/2009, -2/+14Less disk space != lower battery consumption... and being "faster" could make battery life go one way or the other; it really depends how well they've gone about implementing features like Grand Central.
- HouD, on 06/14/2009, -8/+20You're honestly going to compare the T400 to a MBP?
Honestly, am I the only one who seems to care about looks, aesthetics, form, beauty in simplicity, etc. to go along with what's under the hood? It's not entirely difficult to yield 10 hours of battery when your hardware looks like that... -
