- Baelorn, on 12/19/2007, -9/+28We're digging software updates now? Joy.
- smashingmonkey, on 01/24/2008, -1/+13It's sad how computers reflect politics... each side seems unwilling or unable to see the bad in their own system or the good in the other one. If you can't see what's good about Apple, you're obtuse. If you can't see the worms in the Apple, you're obtuse. If you can admire the many great things Apple has done, yet are able to acknowledge their many shortcomings, I'd like to meet you.
- Baelorn, on 12/19/2007, -3/+14Okay. Now it makes sense. I was worried we would have to digg all the Microsoft updates too. I don't have that kind of time.
- legalese, on 12/19/2007, -1/+11I don't know if I'd call this "prompt."
- IllBeBack, on 12/19/2007, -11/+18How do they type in the web address to download it if their keyboards are frozen?
- haiduz, on 12/19/2007, -7/+13as long as its apple
- dagaz, on 12/19/2007, -0/+6It also shows up in Software Update.
- shredluc, on 12/19/2007, -0/+6Finally. A rational man with a rational comment. Sir, I salute you. Unfortunately i have a feeling you will now be buried by both sides. Quite sad really.
- fani, on 12/19/2007, -2/+8What ads ?
- Roger, on 12/19/2007, -2/+7You're new to computers, right?
- digitalpencil, on 12/19/2007, -0/+4Regardless of your interpretation of the semantics surrounding the term 'sub-notebook', how exactly is this relevant to the article?
- rmwimpee, on 12/19/2007, -5/+9about effing time. Maybe they are waiting for everything to go "Touch"
- bigsteve, on 12/19/2007, -0/+4A firmware update would be an example of a problem that's seemingly hardware but fixed in software. But you are correct, this is NOT a hardware issue, but a software issue fixed with a patch (and the patch is also not a firmware upgrade.)
- kwr007, on 12/19/2007, -3/+7This was a software problem not a hardware one, if it was hardware how could they fix it with an update?
- treed, on 12/19/2007, -1/+4"Workaround in software."
- inactive, on 12/19/2007, -4/+7My mbp also has the dropped first letter problem. Does this fix that too?
- gharding, on 12/19/2007, -2/+5I just wish they'd fix the damned wireless "network compromised" bug that's plagued my macbook since I got it.
- bigsteve, on 12/19/2007, -2/+5Well, what happened, was a bunch of retards started posting it sarcastically in every forum discussing any issue large or small with anything Apple. Luckily, said retards were always dugg down out of site of the adults.
- digitalpencil, on 12/19/2007, -0/+3Holy crap!! I was just reading this article thinking i've never experienced this issue before when low-and-behold, i ***** you not, my keyboard froze!! I've honestly never had this before.. maybe it's like a mosquito bite, once you've seen it, you know it's there!
On a side-note to all the MS fanboys/Apple haters (not really sure whether you're fans of MS's work or just despise Apple) of course there are bugs in Apple's designs.. hardware & software. But it really does show a ridiculous level of insecurity for all of you jump on a thread about an OS/X bug and start posting 'i thought it just worked'.. Come on!! next we're gonna have a people commenting about 'the lack of the right-click'! - readerofbooks, on 12/19/2007, -2/+5why are you wasting your time on digg instead of studying, real tough test huh?
- lukasmack, on 12/19/2007, -0/+3Seriously this is getting too much. Its an update there are loads. Does anybody really care? Or is this article just flamebait for windows users, you know what people on digg are like.
- IllBeBack, on 12/19/2007, -0/+3I was only being sarcastic. No offense intended. I'm glad they're getting the problems fixed.
- bigsteve, on 12/19/2007, -0/+2You'll have to forgive my cynicism, but in case you're actually asking that question and not being sarcastic, the problem at hand isn't a permanent one. It's only occasionally an issue, and doesn't last but for a few seconds most of the time. I've only had it happen twice for a total of less than a minute in the weeks I've been running Leopard.
- macwac, on 12/19/2007, -1/+3That freezing just happened to me 2 days ago... for the first time. I got really scared that my keyboard was trashed. Restarted the comp and it worked again. Phew.. happy that this came out! Didn't even know what it was.
- da5id, on 12/19/2007, -0/+2Liars -- macs are perfect
- darnit, on 12/20/2007, -0/+2I for one dugg it - my brand new MBP suffered from this - freezing every 15 minutes or so for 30 seconds or longer. As you can imagine a total productivity killer.
- Greer70, on 12/19/2007, -1/+3Special as in special ed?
- Haecceity, on 12/19/2007, -1/+3With insight like that I'm sure computer companies all over the globe will be lining up to hire you as a consultant.
- bigsteve, on 12/19/2007, -0/+2Well I'm glad us diggers that make about 0.00001% of PC users know that. But if the hard drive fails in my father's $400 HP refurb, will he a] buy a new hard drive for $80, install it himself, find the restore disk, realize it's not a real restore disk, call HP, wait on hold forever, communicate to the person on the other end that he needs a _full_ restore disk, negotiate payment of S&H, $9, and then waste half an afternoon trying to put it together, or pay Best Buy or whoever to do it? (I'd do it for him if we lived in the same state.)
...or will he b] go out, save himself valuable time, buy another $350 refurb (only $260 more than solution a) and gets a faster machine, possibly a free/cheap monitor or printer thrown in, and he's back in business with a host of new parts in half the time, and can get back to work? - Trick07, on 12/19/2007, -0/+2I am looking for a fix for 10.4.11 that we have on our school MacBooks. We have one MacBook that has lost all input from the z to ? keys when on battery power. When it is plugged in it works fine. I guess a call to Apple is in order...
- readerofbooks, on 12/19/2007, -0/+2MOZILLA FTW
- neil1492, on 12/19/2007, -0/+2Wow there are actually 3 updates today. If I am not having an issue with my keyboard on my Macbook should I even do the update yet?
- MonkeyFarts, on 12/19/2007, -0/+1Software Update only requires a mouse, and can be set (with a mouse as well) to do everything automatically.
- MacParrot, on 12/19/2007, -0/+1Wait, you can right-click in OS X? Kidding...kidding. I don't know if it's related, but since I upgraded my iBook G4 to 10.5, the cursor on occasion freezes. Has anyone heard of similar problems or could it just be my 4-year old laptop?
- ch3t, on 12/19/2007, -0/+1thanks for the fix :)
- AxeMAYHEM, on 12/20/2007, -0/+1Use a different HOSTS file to block everything!
- beerbarron, on 12/19/2007, -0/+1You ever had a keyboard that randomly freezes? This isnt just an update, this is stress relief!
- tehrob, on 12/19/2007, -0/+1unless you need to put in your password.. :P
- MacParrot, on 12/19/2007, -1/+2You have to forgive him. Along with being unable to read his own previous comments, he apparently has a short attention span as well.
- happyseamonster, on 12/19/2007, -2/+3One of the complaints was the first letter would be omitted.
- GoDawgs7, on 12/20/2007, -0/+1it's a take home exam. I have over 30 hours to finish it. I'm prob going to take a break at some point.
- mannypdesign, on 12/19/2007, -2/+3Yay for generic hardware! Swapping parts on a regular basis is productive, less costly and economic!
- bigsteve, on 12/19/2007, -1/+2You uh, said that already.
- Haecceity, on 12/21/2007, -0/+1That's an entirely separate issue.
- darnit, on 12/20/2007, -0/+1I had to return my brand new MBP because of this problem (the "geniuses" claimed it must have been a random hardware problem or some "malicious" program I installed)The keyboard would freeze for 30 seconds approx every 15 minutes. Amazing annoying.
Good news! Dugg.
PS - ***** you "genius" for claiming it was hardware or 3rd party apps.... - logicbus, on 12/19/2007, -1/+2My primary machine is a MacBook, and at work I frequently make the "I thought it just worked" joke or one like it. Does that show that I, too, am insecure? Or is it just funny to say?
- LukeBeaumont, on 12/19/2007, -0/+1There was the XP SP3 and Vista SP1 story not too long ago...
- zerodaysoon, on 12/20/2007, -0/+1i do, too bad the apple fanboys dont!! lol, losers
- 44Bigs, on 12/19/2007, -0/+1Well.. this is actually a pretty big deal. Many MBP's produced in the last 4 months had various keyboard issues, including often dropping the first letter typed after clicking or just skipping various letters during typing. It's a real annoying issue and Apple took WAY to long to fix it.
So I think it's worth a dig :) (though I didn't) -
