No, really, Steve's got a folder called 'WTF'. - jhonizzle, on 10/11/2007, -2/+55http://stream.qtv.apple.com/events/jun/d7625zs/m_99427722_650_ref.mov
the 650/ hi-res video - KyleMistry, on 10/11/2007, -4/+50Love that Vista burn at the end.
"Leopard will have a Basic edition for $129.
...and a Premium Version...for $129.
And a Business Version for $129.
And an Enterprise Version for $129.
And an Ultimate Edition...for $129!"
Hilarity. - Ireland, on 10/11/2007, -6/+50"Finally"??
Don't you mean ***** Finally!! The note ended 5 hours ago, what the hell is up with that.
I hope Apple puts this up on iTunes like they did with Macworld. - ChunkerMunker, on 10/11/2007, -1/+32I didn't see anything very new or "top secret" worthy either. But for those that keep complaining and whining about "no new hardware" I got some news:
THIS IS A "DEVELOPERS" CONFERENCE!!!!!!
I'm sure the developers there were ecstatic at what they saw, and Steve only covered what he could in an hour and a half. The developers will get many more features reveled to them.
Oh....btw
Its still miles ahead of Windows! - neosublime, on 10/11/2007, -2/+28Holy *****, they all laughed when he showed the new desktop!
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -10/+34Finally.
- flibblesan, on 10/11/2007, -2/+20buy a sound card
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -3/+20you may not be an apple hater you're just not a nerd
- mikev, on 10/11/2007, -1/+17@rice: actually, the WTF folder is part of WoW. it's where you throw your AddOns (i think; haven't played in a while)
- tdominey, on 10/11/2007, -2/+17The new dock and stacks look great, but good lord -- why did they have to make the menu bar semi-transparent? Having a defined visual anchor at the top of the browser window has been part of the OS since...well, the first Mac. There's a reason why it hasn't changed. Opaque windows dropping down from a semi-transparent parent just feels wrong. Completely disconnected.
- xGrill, on 10/11/2007, -2/+16does anybody have a .mov link? It seems to be going really slow, and I'd rather download it and watch it without pause
- darkmisery, on 10/11/2007, -2/+14I'm sure it will be adjustable. At least I hope it will be. It looks terrible semi-transparent.
- Shaggy3, on 10/11/2007, -2/+14I already gave in and watched the demo's on their site, but it should still be exciting to see.
- superal1394, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12It would seem with alot of this Jobs has been listening to our grievances.
I am excited about the games; this could be a sign of things to come hardware wise from Apple. With EA getting onboard, it will definitely interest other developers (hopefully Valve?)
I am HUGELY happy about Preview and the new finder, a huge fix of alot of the complaints I have had about OSX. The biggest thing I have liked about Windows is the preview function in Explorer and the 'photo and fax viewer'. This is definately a response to the people who switched from Windows to OSX
I want to see that Core Animation app they demoed integrated into iTunes
Spaces is the greatest thing ever. I can't even describe how badly I need Spaces. As of right now I have 16 windows open. It would be amazing, I am so bad.. I lose windows all the time, and I am not much of a fan of expose..
The iChat update is definately interesting. iChat feels very tired and worn out, and the updates are welcome, however I will probably end up using adium again. (Somewhere in Redman, a chair has been thrown).
Time machine is very interesting, however I wonder how it will handle my kind if situation, where I have 110 of 140 somethin gigs used and I am not always connected to my network. - radius7, on 10/11/2007, -2/+13ok ... try this ..

However, it should be tempered with a little dose of "Macworld is for cool *****, WWDC is for developer *****" (which goes to show that MW Boston filled a keynote vacuum).
But "One more thing - Safari for Windows?" COME ON, please. Even if the ultimate premise is to prompt developers to code for iPhones, really.
Safari isn't a superior or inferior browser, ie it doesn't stand leagues above anything. So they make it a programming environment in so many words? - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -11/+20The snorenote.
- Atomic1fire, on 10/11/2007, -3/+12at least they dont live under a bridge
- moebis, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9Could they make the video size any smaller? The point to watching this is to actually see the screencasts. The Quicktime icon is larger than this video.
- mikeazorin, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8Use VLC...
- superal1394, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8perhaps it could fade in and out as it is brought into use or not..?
- Edogz, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7Hello there.
Here is a direct link to the stream http://stream.qtv.apple.com/events/jun/d7625zs/m_99427722_110_ref.mov . It seems to open fine for me in VLC under Linux. - chriskzoo, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7Jobs:"We will let you put apps on iPhone."
Devs: "YEAH!"
Jobs: "...by creating web 2.0 apps...."
LOL, what a joke. So you basically need web access to get to those apps - this is a Microsoft move. - phej, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7How is 'consistent window look' and 'more prominent active windows' features?
Sounds like something OS X should have had for years now. Finally, indeed. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -3/+8Hopefully the podcast should be up on the store quite soon, I hope.......
- vbsurfer, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7Anyone have their quicktime crashing their browsers all the time since last patch?
- Fedge, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7If I recall, WoW (for the mac at least) has a WTF folder.
- deadbaby, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Random thoughts on WWDC:
Leopard: Evolutionary, not revolutionary but there's nothing wrong with that. I can see myself using all the new features. I might even buy a .MAC account depending on the amount of storage it offers. From the demos on Apple's site it looks like a lot of the built in apps have been refined nicely. Mail actually seems to have a significant update (RSS, TODO lists, Notes, etc) Overall I do think it will be worth $129 to upgrade.
iPhone Third Party Apps: I was underwhelmed at first but I think the iPhone specific stuff opens a lot of doors to developers. From the short demo it appears the API can interface with the phone, address book, maps and might even have some basic touchscreen functionality. Not a bad at all. Off the top of my head I would speculate this would cover a good 80% of the apps I might want to use on a phone.
Safari for Windows: Surprising but not unwelcome. I'm guessing there's more to this than we currently know. Maybe this is the interface you use to install/subscribe to third party iPhone apps? It would make a lot of sense... you goto www.meebo.com and Safari says "Wanna install the iPhone version of this website?" The other thing that comes to mind is that Apple just wants to ***** with Microsoft a little. With more quality browsers on the market there's less and less chance that Microsoft can push closed formats/"standards" down our throats. - Greer70, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Web apps only on the phone? The monthly fee for the service is going to be more than people pay to fill up an SUV.
- danbt79, on 10/11/2007, -3/+7best comment ever
- superkendall, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I don't think there will be an "install" - it's just a web application, like any other - like Flickr or GMail or whatever.
It looks like Javascript can activate iPhone features, however I'm not sure it can actually read data from the phone from just the demo - they were pulling data off an LDAP server via web calls, not the phone itself. I am really curious to see the full extent of what they have actually exposed... but I think it's an excellent first step at getting some cool custom development with the phone. Combine that with it supporting SVG (as Safari 3 has been noted to do) and I think there's a lot of potential. - astrosmash, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4The Dock stacks (and lack of desktop icons) is reminiscent of the legendary NEXTSTEP 4.0 Beta that leaked out in 1996:
http://www.shawcomputing.net/resources/next/software/ns40_screenshots/index.html
I guess the dream in finally coming true for those last remaining NEXTSTEP Unix Desktop fans. - dawgma, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4flippin' useless atm...
- nfxmedia, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4That's relative. You need to ask yourself that.
- veracon, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3@mikev (#7137160)
Actually, WTF is for account preferences. Addons go in Interface/AddOns (not that it's too important, you made your point). - Nar1117, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Im not getting any audio through quicktime with any of the streaming links. I get audio with VLC but not Qt. Anyone else having this problem?
- bvskoog, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Not only that, I would also assume that the blue patterns will still be available to choose from, if you so desire. They will just not be the default background.
- thomas, on 10/11/2007, -3/+6Just got done watching it. It was ok but I find it sad that the most exciting announcement (at least to me) is that EA and ID are going to be increasing their Mac support.
Please release Warhammer Online for the Mac. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4http://stream.qtv.apple.com/events/jun/d7625zs/m_99427722_110_ref.mov
direct link, but its not working for me. - stevebor1, on 10/11/2007, -5/+8Is it me, or did I see nothing impressive from this conference?
- ers35, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Mine crashes sometimes.
- alexkrycek, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4Like real tech support, Digg doesn't want to hear your problems.
- Lowspirit, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3As a linux user with limited quicktime streaming options I'd love to see this in some other format once opportunity presents itself.
Already viewed the demos on the site of some features but Steve is a great speaker so I'd love to see this. - chriskzoo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Even as a Mac user, the funniest part of the keynote was when Jobs first brought up the new desktop for Leopard with the grass wallpaper and you hear one guy laughing because he thinks it's a joke about Vista.
- xero9, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Am I the only one who saw WoW actually running and wonder how he stayed logged in that entire time? Mine logs me out after like 20-30 mins of not playing.. Just something to think about
- forku, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Under ubuntu , It lost sync on all of the streams posted and kept stuttering. VLC Looked very pretty , but it ran like crap.
You made me have to boot into windows to watch the Apple WWDC
BooHoo - zioxide, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2You can turn off the transparency in the menubar so it's just like the one in Tiger and every other Mac OS since the original.
- ChunkerMunker, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I get the feeling they wanted to reveal something else but it wasn't ready, so they went with what they could.........no?
Or is it just me? -
