- catullus, on 10/12/2007, -7/+32umm since when are any of the new nanos academically discounted?

http://arstechnica.com/journals/apple.ars/2006/11/3/5844 - Ninjab3ar, on 10/12/2007, -4/+17Am I the only one here that notices you can spend those same $250 on a 30GB Video iPod?
Oh wait, ITS RED!!!! ZOMG I TAKE BACK WHAT I JUST SAID!!! - rbrodkin, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15Why does nobody consider linking to the product itself?
http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?mco=763E676E&nclm=iPodnano - titlesaysitall, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Why he didn't link to that one is beyond me.
- elroy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11@Ninja:
No, but some people prefer the smaller form factor and solid-state memory. Imagine you were buying an iPod to wear while running... You wouldn't want the full-size one. - amandaw33, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7IMO Apple should be ponying up more than $10 per Nano sold (http://www.apple.com/ipodnano/red/)
What do you think their profit margin is on a Nano?
Gap is producing clothes with African cotton, and also giving half their profits to Red.
Is it better than nothing? Yes. But Apple can and should do better.
The are making money off of Bono and the other stars promoting Red... they should be giving more back to the cause. - mikedpirone, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9God forbid a company makes a profit, and donates some money to a good cause. How evil!!!
- BlackCow, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8@elroy
If I were going to listen to music while running I would take a cheap ass MP3 player that I wouldent mind getting sweat in and destroyed. - oneiroi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Campaign based on a color change?
(RED) is an unrelated non profit to help raise awareness and donations for the AIDS crisis in Africa. And they said it was really popular...what is your problem with that? It's popular which means the non profit will be more effective.
This doesn't change/slow down their future plans for ipods.
So stop whining and complaining about an ipod that is for a good cause. - arkmtech, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6What can I say - Product (RED) is one of the most innovative and brilliant marketing campaigns ever.
For the next 5 years, several companies will make (RED) products and donate money to AIDS-stricken countries, exploiting (whether positively or negatively) the disease of one people and virtues & good-heartedness of others, all while raking in a huge profit.
To some this may seem win-win, but I'm still largely skeptical. - Sesse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4@catullus
Last year, I bought a nano with a 10% discount at my uni. ;)
Oh sorry, you said "NEWW". Well, yeah none. :p
They still claim here that 250$$ is the discounted price even though it is cheaper in walmart. I still haven't been able to convince the employees at the book store that there is no discount on the new nanos.. - clintology, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Sorry I was in a rush and linked to the wrong URL :(
- uownedge, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Agreed. It can go either way. Personally, I think it's better that somebody is doing *something*, regardless of whether they are making a profit or not. If a business wants to donate, more power to them, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't still be profitable...that's what business is all about right?
- Enchirito, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4So he thinks the RED project is exploiting people with Aids. Would he rather Apple take that $10 than an org dedicated to fighting the disease he has? What exactly is he trying to say?
- Quix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4"I wonder what color they'll come up with for paying underpaid Chinese factory workers who make iPods?" - WackyT
Perhaps black, just like your Sansa that was made by the same underpaid Chinese factory workers? - Bootes, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Its the name of the charity thing that benefits from the red products. http://www.joinred.com/
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I've got my first gen nano in a silicon case and I bought it specifically for the gym. With that case on it I could play floor hockey with the damn thing and not worry about scratching or damaging it. I used to take my old shuffle to the gym, but reloading and changing the playlist everytime you go gets old fast. With my nano I can keep all my podcasts updated and change up my playlists when I sync and charge. I'd love to have the new nano, but I can't justify it since my current one works perfectly.
- LaueOfficer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3He wanted to promote the rest of the site I guess.
- mikev, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6Actually, it's a "(PRODUCT)"!
- NikZ, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3It's a marketing campaign:
http://www.joinred.com/more.asp
"What's the meaning of the parentheses or brackets? Well, we call them "the embrace." Each company that becomes (RED) places its logo in this embrace and is then elevated to the power of red. Thus the name -- (PRODUCT)RED." - thbt, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Meh. Criticize me all you like, but I just like it cuz I like shiny red things.
- Quix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2And to think the Sansa E280 8GB actually retails for $249.99 (exactly the SAME PRICE as the iPod nano), and deep discounts indicate the thing must not be selling well, making your point irrelevant...
- rovertly, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1***** a
- titlesaysitall, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well it was a good thing in a way, I found that 80 dollar iPod LCD repair.
- jonasblue, on 10/12/2007, -10/+11HOLY ***** *****! RED!
- stevejobs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"The are making money off of Bono and the other stars promoting Red... they should be giving more back to the cause."

- Odalisque, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3what a n00b he believed that buying a red nano would make his aids better.
no sympathy here... - mitchtj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Im just wondering, when this be out in other countries?
I'd like one too :o - danglerman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1DAMNIT! I just bought the frickin 4 GB and now they release a 8 GB for the SAME FRICKIN PRICE? Apple just raped me...
- redhatcat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1@Quix
You aren't helping the stereotype that iPod users are ignorant and smug.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16855125017 - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -11/+11because they don't have cult followings, or covert PR teams, that publish and obsess over a company's every move?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+6What's up with this trend lately to put "(PRODUCT)" in the title?
- redhatcat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Red (Product)-buying consumer robots don't give a damn about anything but themselves.
If you really care, you will decide how much to donate and not trust greedy corporations to even sliver off a shaving of their profits. - scoobydiesel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1that sucks i just got the 4GB, i would have liked 8 more...but still cool they did this anyways.
- dandyhighwayman, on 10/12/2007, -6/+6This guy is not impressed:
http://politicsofdancing.blogspot.com/2006/10/aids-sufferer-only-feels-poorer-after.html - WackyT, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1It quite possibly could be because they are ignorant and smug.
Also gotta love how the Apple fan kiddies hate to admit their God extremely overprices his (PRODUCT)s. - streak, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Hmm... 'looks like we have several people floating through here with their life savings invested in AAPL.
- LaueOfficer, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3"It looks more like a billboard for Target than a special edition product."
- wabbitman1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1All you bashers-would you rather Apple not give any $$ at all? I agree it would be nice if it were a higher amount to charity-but it is not- fussing about it is not going to change it.
- Quix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1It's "ignorant" and "smug" to post factual information? Whatever. Perhaps you should consult a dictionary.
http://www.sandisk.com/Products/Item(2057)-SDMX4-8192-Sansa_e280_MP3_Player_8GB.aspx
$249.99 retail. Street price = much lower. You think this is because it's a hot seller? Try again. - macsroxr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Where's the 80GB Red version?
- teddyrux, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3The article on top of the dugg article seemed even more useful!
- redhatcat, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1God forbid they make people's suffering the gimmick for their overpriced electronics.
