- miniboss, on 10/10/2007, -1/+46The base model is $599 and it doesn't come with a dvd-burner? What year is this?
Don't get me wrong. I'm a Mac Mini owner and I'm glad it's not dead but considering this is their only desktop product that falls into mid-range consumer pricing then $599 is an awful lot of money for something that has no burner, 64mb integrated video, has no open RAM slots and doesn't even come with one of those snazzy new keyboards. - fissionignition, on 10/10/2007, -0/+41$599- 1.83GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 1GB memory, 80GB hard drive
$799- 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 1GB memory, 120GB hard drive - archer75, on 10/10/2007, -0/+33Needs a better video card.
- CraigJ, on 10/10/2007, -8/+36So, once again the rumor mill had it wrong... I'm so surprised...
- Gauthic, on 07/09/2008, -1/+24This refresh makes the entire Mac line now 64 bit ready.
- crackedplastic, on 10/10/2007, -2/+20Google is your friend.
G4 -> Core Solo -> Core Duo -> Core 2 Duo - lateralus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+16I'm sorry but a DVD Burner in 2007 is essential for any target market. Seriously, $599 is not exactly cheap/barebones. Please throw in the $50 DVD burner. Hell, make it a 4x. Granted most people use a burner once every few months but this is a bit absurd.
- crazybrit, on 10/10/2007, -1/+14In price.
- Kyderdog, on 10/10/2007, -0/+13Yeah and charge another $100 bucks for it..
- jackmaninov, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12The two cheaper models also only came with 512MB of RAM before.
- drlha, on 10/10/2007, -4/+15WTF do you think the Mac mini is for? Honestly?
Its for people who want a Mac on a budget. Those people don't drive 2 monitors at once or care that much about gaming. The Mac mini is a perfect little computer for 99% of the population that just surf's the web and reads their email. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10Core 2 Duos are long overdue for the Mini. Now I wish they'd offer the same ATI 3D graphics accelerator that's in the MacBook Pro.
- jawadde, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10anyone knows what the OLD specs were ? Is this just a Core-to-Core2 upgrade ?
- lovespirals, on 10/10/2007, -2/+11long live the mac mini (as i type this using one)! glad they didn't kill it. yeah, the prior one's had a core duo, not the core 2 duo of the new ones.
- Cwo655321, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10it looks the same as it always has
- lordtyros, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8That's apple's fault, not dell's
- Raider007, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8finally, been waiting for the C2D...
- mrhaines, on 10/10/2007, -3/+10Why is it that when Apple announces an upgrade to one of their computers it is treated like they are landing a man on the moon?
- shadownight, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Plus you get 80GB HD vs 60GB, and 120GB vs 80GB.
- miniboss, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7So iMovie isn't a consumer app? Then why the heck did they spend 30 minutes demoing how easy it is to use and even made a recomendation on which camera is good, C'mon, let's not get absurd with defending Apple. Apple makes premium products so it should be assumed their entire line is at least caught up with 2006 specs.
- JohnWillkins, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Remember, the Mini's HD is a laptop sized drive, so the one you are picking up at the store is likely not the same drive. I agree that I wish they gave more HD space by default, though; at least they finally raised the RAM.
- grayapple, on 10/10/2007, -7/+13I thought they would at least offer a black version.
- prisoner24601, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7I'm certainly glad to find the rumors of it's demise were completely wrong. It's the one Apple computer I actually have wanted since I switched from Mac to Windows after I graduated from college. (Had too for work.) I've already got a "monster desktop" for heavy work, but needed a small (and VERY quiet) system for light duty stuff as well. The MacMini fit this bill so well I ended up buying a second one a couple of months later. It's great to see they are refreshing this product. Obviously it's not the heavy duty powerhouse you'd need as a primary system, but it's smart for Apple to keep competing in this "under-$800" market since that's the best way they can capture (or recapture) Windows users. It worked in my case.
It's just sad that the wintel side can't seem to match it. (And yes, I'm actually already familiar with the AOpen MiniPC and the Shuttle X200 and a slew of other "wannabes" but there doesn't seem to be anything that can match the quietness of the MacMini. At least not anything I can go actually see (and hear) in a retail store near me. The compact PC's I've checked out so far sound terrible. The two MacMini's I bought really can just barely be heard in a quiet room.) - dethl, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Meh, Intel GMA 950 graphics. Boooooo.
I'll take one of those new iMacs though. - ashwinashwin, on 10/10/2007, -3/+9I just priced dell's "slim" desktop - yes i know its not the same but its the most relevant product they have. I matched all the specs to the higher end mac mini, except the hard disk which was 320GB because they didnt have anything less... still came out to $509 vs $799 for the mac mini. There you go, kelly.
- ashwinashwin, on 10/10/2007, -10/+15mac mini is still overpriced. those laptop parts might squeeze it into a tiny package but you're paying for it...
still waiting for the "missing mac" - a middle of the road desktop w/ a separate monitor... until then i'll stick with the imac - jhuebel, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Digg down for you believing that you're the target market.
- dyvbond, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Huh, I made this-

for only...$479?
You having that extra software/ Vista Ultimate and 320GB HD couldn't of helped the price much. - Morphinity, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Wait, are you implying that Apple's products are overpriced?
HOW COULD YOU?! - stukdog, on 10/10/2007, -3/+7Works great as a server. These new processors and standard 1GB RAM will help for sure. ( http://www.macminicolo.net )
- Gumby_Mac, on 10/10/2007, -5/+9Nice. So now the Mac Mini has the same processors that were in the iMacs yesterday? It still has the paltry 64MB shared video though right? It'd be more attractive if it could share two monitors.
- prisoner24601, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Speaking of waiting... I hope they'll finally post the full set of XP drivers for the system. I've still got "Unknown Device" for the WiFi on mine.
Also, I hope they've fixed the "headless booting" problem. These units are perfect for any number of light duty server or specific-purpose workstations, but they won't boot if they don't sense an attached monitor. You have add something like the DVI-to-S-Video dongle to fool it. - LeeSoong, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5The Mac Mini is the greatest little computer to put into your living room
and hook up to your HDTV. The AppleTV fills in for those who don't want to
buy a whole computer, just extend their content from their existing computer
Now the Mac Mini is Actually WORTH buying:
Faster 2.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo (updated from the slower Core Duo).
1 GB RAM (doubled from 512 MB)
80/120 GB Hard Drive (updated from 60/80).
iLife '08, now includes Numbers Spreadsheet.
Just add a DVI-HDMI cable and you have the ultimate multimedia center computer,
or VGA cable if your 1080p HDTV supports direct VGA input.
Die-hards may want to wait for the OS X 10.5 release in October,
but this is now the sweetest little Mac your money could Ever buy... - xaxxon, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4No, it doesn't. The video card is perfectly good for what the machine is meant to do and what the target audience for the system needs. You don't want a mac mini, you want the "missing mac" c2d tower.
- Tippis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Actually, as long as you stay away from the really (3D-)graphics-intense stuff, it has the processing power to do some pretty hard work.
- mashedpotatoes, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Oh I understand completely that it's smaller but even still, that means it will also be slower. So the price goes up while the value goes down. While I'm at it, still no DVD burning capability. It's basically a $600 fancy email machine.
- prisoner24601, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3They really should make the XP drivers available as a download. It's funny to go into the Apple Store near me and see even their demo units running bootcamp have "Unknown Device" under Device Manager.
- LeeSoong, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Better than before - but if you max out the specs on a Mac Mini - you are getting close to the price of an iMac anyway. Apple recommends the iMac and Mac Pro for Final Cut Pro - because they have the much more powerful graphics cards ( nVidia / ATI ). (The mini only has the shared memory Intel GMA 950)
If you are a professional using Final Cut Pro for work - the larger 24" iMac is a better deal,
or the Mac Pro with faster CPUs if you are into animation and complex rendering, etc.
The bottom Line is the bottom line - will the Mac speed your Work and help you earn more money,
and earn it faster? - MacParrot, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5Wouldn't get a mini myself. I totally agree with you about the missing mac. I've got a 24-inch iMac and it's great, but I would quickly drop kick it to my kids if Apple came out with a C2D tower.
- atdigg, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5I'm sure your brain blends.
- sinembarg0, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5Wait. They didn't update the iMacs, have a new keyboard, and update .mac? Because those were the rumors that went around.
- speedyrev, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I think he is referring to the rumor that they were going to discontinue the mini.
- bringmewater, on 10/10/2007, -4/+7Good, now I can throw out this old one that is slow as crap.
- jhuebel, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Gotta digg you up on that. My wife still runs a PPC Mac Mini. It's really, really slow. This is the upgrade we've been waiting for for her computer. Personally, a Mac Mini is way underpowered for what I do each day, but the Mac Mini has been absolutely perfect for my wife.
- miniboss, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Jeez. What a knee-jerk reaction to bring up PC's when they weren't even mentioned. But since that is what you're looking for then just stop at Dell and you'll be surprised to find what $599 can buy you. Any bargain site will give you a coupon/link for something much higher than a Core2, 1GB, 80GB and even will include KB, Mouse and Monitor for probably $100 less.
Look, as Apple users we don't have to pretend that they offer bargain products. There's a premium we pay for the OS and design so just accept it and stop being so angry. - dm33, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4No 802.11n, memory limited to 2gig, not 4gig like others.
Apple needs to make a headless iMac, 3.5" drive, lower cost. Mini is a machine without a market. Harddrive too small, network too slow for a media center. - Tippis, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Crap. My optometrist is going to be happy now.
I read that as "I'd quickly drop-kick my kids if..." X_x - MihaiM, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Why are they still selling computers with ComboDrive? That's what's keeping me away from Apple. I want the entry level computers to have SuperDrive
- spectre_25gt, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Is that config something they're testing right now? You've piqued my curiosity, but it doesn't seem to be advertised on the site.
- mikeyv33, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2i was thinking about getting one of these to hook up to my tv
